I hope you guys enjoyed this video. I’ve been obsessed with this game for the last few weeks. It is quite good, so let me know if you want to see more. Who knows, if we hit *insert arbitrary like number here* I’ll do a campaign! Also don’t forget to join our discord if you haven’t already. discord.gg/2NHPaKCfhg

skirmishers have same guns as the troop they are from, so same range. and usecases are; draw fire to move troops behind them without getting shot, and flanking afterwards to cause moral dmg. but to be honest the AI is pretty exploitable

One thing to note about cavalry - they are *the* pursuit force after you've won the battle. Good use of cavalry can turn a minor victory into a major victory.
@talknight22 жыл бұрын
Also great for running around securing objectives and entry points and scouting. But a cavalry unit with upgraded, rapid firing weapons is actually a fearsome shock troop capable of obliterating an infantry brigade at close range with their triple or quadruple rate of fire.
@hunterkiller2321342 ай бұрын
Is it possible to use the cavalry in a more contemporary force; grouped together as a shock charge formation? I'm thinking about picking up the game but am curious

The AI has gotten so much better lately. Used to flounder about, attacking your well entrenched army with a single brigade or division at a time, but now it actually deploys properly and attacks with overwhelming force where it spots a weakness, and establishes its own defensive positions properly. I've actually lost a few battles in my newest campaign! I've recently had a battle where I was defending the wheat fields area of the Antietam map and the Union was attacking. I drew a line of breastworks and put everyone in a single long line, and the AI chose to deploy diagonally to my side and then push their entire army into the right end of my line, which amazed me! The only thing that saved me in this battle was that, unbeknownst to the AI, my right flank ws armed with the best weapons available to the South and my one brigade equipped with the rapid-firing long-range Hall Rifles slaughtered 3 Union brigades all by itself and held the line until my left flank could wheel about to mop up the enemy center. In another battle I was attacking Washington and the Union forces were dug in on a forested hill in a semicircular formation. They left one flank of their defenses unmanned, however. I split my army 3 ways, my middle gradually creeping towards the enemy line while constructing breastworks, my best-equipped brigades on the right pushing through the forest into the AI's seemingly weak flank, and my left preparing to rush forward to seize the unmanned defenses and use them against the AI. As my attack commenced, thing immediately started going wrong. My most elite division on my right ended up standing in the open exchanging fire with entrenched enemies, taking massive casualties until I forced them to rush to melee and finally overrun the defenses. On my left, the Union moved brigades from the center and routed almost my entire flanking force. It was only when I rushed my center and right into the enemy center that they found themselves surrounded and chose to retreat.

If you have never tried the scourge of war series then I would highly recommend it. The "being a general" feeling is as good as it gets in any game I've played. Battle scenarios can last up to 9 hours. There are numerous civil war versions of the game but scourge if war Waterloo is by far the best in my opinion. Courier systems, OOB's and all that jazz. Well worth a look

Learn new things everyday, even about a topic you have loved to learn about your whole life. Got really confused when you started talking about General Beauregard, a confederate officer, of the Army of the Potomac, a Union army. Then I learned that the Army of Northern Virginia actually started as three separate armies, with Beauregard leading the main one that was originally called Army of the Potomac, and officially became AoNV after Lee took over on June 1st, 1862

Just to point out; I think the reason why long range fire isn't the default setting is because it wasn't the way soldiers fought in the Civil War. Due to the weapons used, and the time it took to operate them, wasn't the most effective fire conducted by whole battalions within 100-200 yds of each other?
@talknight22 жыл бұрын
Close range engagement was quite common. Actually, the AI will not always default to long range, but will react to the player's decision to fire at long range.
@Legacysong2012 Жыл бұрын
An experienced soldier could load every 20 seconds, a regular every 30, so they could fire at a rate of 3 shots per minute, with aiming up to 500 yards, a good marksman being able to hit up to 800 yards away, however most of the rifles used were only truly accurate at a range of 100 yards, dropping off significantly after 200 yards. So theoretically yes they could have long range shots, but the best strategy was close range battle
@cab00se773 жыл бұрын
thanks dude, im going to pick this game up
@pikestance42192 жыл бұрын
You wouldn’t ordinarily have unit fire at long range. The weapons are inaccurate at the longer range. The military doctrine at the time was not to fire at long range, but to fire en masse causing as much damage on the first volley. This is why in a charge they fire and then charge. If you want discourage long range shots then use skirmishes
@MrDavePed2 жыл бұрын
The new organization project I tried it but the army level nato symbol moves independently of the subordinate corps on the strategic map, defeating the whole purpose as far as I can tell. What am I missing? I still have to carefully make sure they all engage the same battle on the strategic map and so what advantage is there to it over simply moving a bunch of disconnected corps? They are still disconnected.

the video was very helpful thanks a lot these were obvious things if you suspect the game whit the assumption to at least know what it is made for for example total war series never realised the oportunity to be a great real time strategy game becouse the turn based campaign aspect im happy that being incorporated dosent mean that it is instantly lower quality than its preducessor becouse of marketing teams and the triple A habits and heretical thoughts its a some what realistic simulation rather than a surreal mess like many

On skirmishers, doesn't their ammo also reset too? Or did they fix that? You used to be able to detach skirmishers, harass the enemy until they ran out of ammo, reattach them, then detach them again and the ammo resets.
@DaComrade3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's the same in 1.0. You can just keep retracting them for ammo and send them back. There's no downside as far as I can tell.
@talknight22 жыл бұрын
Well, that makes sense, doesn't it? The skirmishers detach from the main unit, no reason they shouldn't be able to resupply from their brigade each time.

I just can't get into this game. I think it's well made and all, but It's the learning curve that bothers me. It's not easy to pick up and start playing like other games. Most of the time when I lose, I have literally no idea what I did or didn't do to cause it, so I can't progress, learn from my mistakes and get better at it. Mind you I know and understand all the in and outs and controls of HOI4, so I'm no stranger to complex strategy games.
@boplax1232 жыл бұрын
Knowledge of a game like HOI4 wouldn't really help you that much when you're in the battlefield because HOI4 is concerned with grand strategy. If you played Total War games you would have some idea on what to do. But even then this game is much more complicated than TW. Imo basic knowledge of OOB and line infantry tactics is necessary for you to fully enjoy the game.
