Been looking for a game like this for years. Will be watching more from you.

Oh man this is fantastic thanks for putting it together HGG! Bought the game and have been struggling with loads of the concepts you’ve covered. I spent an entire battle in Tennessee last night trying to get my artillery to bombard a n entrenched location before I charged it but couldn’t get the cannons to fire so I impatiently ordered my brigades to charge anyway. Hundreds of boys in blue died for nothing.

Morning HG, picked up your tutorial over lunch here in Scotland. You reinforced a lot of the stuff I've picked up, but as always a number of key strokes and better understanding of Fallback for example. Have now abandoned Total War (never thought I'd hear myself saying that after almost 20 years, I bought Shogun day 1) but the battle screen, map, moving battalions, divisions etc is more realistic. Again super tutorial, keep them coming. Stay Safe

Appreciate that Bill. Found out this morning I've been asked by the devs to do the official in game tutorial vids. Excited about the opportunity.

That is so good. If you read the posts you will see how much the guys on line respect your guidance. The devs have made a good choice. Stay Safe, Bill

A year later this still holds up! Very helpful. Had GTCW on wishlist long time, but only just now took the plunge. First several hours had me tearing my hair out...but I expected that, and kept on, it's worth it. Now in second campaign, but still picked up several good tips here. Thanks HGG!

Wow one of the best tutorials i have ever watched really great, one minor very, very minor lol criticism would have loved it if you had edited in a bit about the pre- deployment entrenchments they are really cool but really finicky to use and i really want to use them i did get one small one set up eventually and they look so cool lol :) but given it bugged out on you thats cool. I have an off the wall suggestion i notice part of the road map are tutorial vids. Well why try to improve on perfection you could offer to let them use yours, maybe get in the game credits, i mean i know its unlikely but since your doing it anyway saves them a job lol ????? PS i didn't see anything about setting way points when marching around the battle map like for long flanking movements or maybe i missed it i did nip out for a sec and forgot to pause so apologies if you did include that, but really great vid one of the best i have seen for something like this :)

Hold shift while giving the order and you can set a series of waypoints. While Im sure you figured that out by now, folks reading the comments may want to know that.

Omfg, I know it's late August of 2021 but I just started playing this game and had a medium level battle early in the war (playing CSA) over around Bull Run area in Virginia. I had this ONEEEEEE brigade that just wouldn't follow any instructions. Now it all makes sense. He was way off from his division commander and division in general. Very good info to know HG. Thanks. I'm coming from Ultimate General Civil War and this game is just on a whole other level of complexity (not in a bad way). It's taking me a while to get a grip on things.

Don't know if this is recent since I just got the game, but before the battle you can immediately build entrenchments. During the battle, you can only build barricades (pgs 158-159 of current manual).

Hello and thank you for this neat tutorial! I was struggling a lot in my first battle, piling up orders and seeing units going crazy :D One thing I would like you to explain for battles is, is there a way to scout to see from where the enemy is coming, I have a hard time seeing enemy on the map, and how to anticipate what road they are going to take (because of the map objectives, the terrain, etc.). Also, do you know if the dev team is going to improve the 3D assets and animations in close-up view in battle mode or visuals is far from their priorities? Thanks History Guy!
@ryanroyal92363 жыл бұрын
Hello. I have found 2 ways to scout out enemy movements. 1 and I think the best is sending out cavalry to move fast and in front of your army. The second, and more risky is to send groups of skirmishers in different directions to hopefully spot the enemy. The problem with skirmishers is they may get caught out of communication range and not be able to get back to the lines quick enough. Cavalry, scouts, and spies were used during the real CW and (I haven't played a ton of this game) but I don't think scouts or spies are available. I hope this helps.
@loiclegoff36143 жыл бұрын
@@ryanroyal9236 Yeah after playing more, cavalry is a pretty good way to scout but I think there is a bug with the detach command and my cavalry almost always need to wait for the corps commander order to move. In reality, the cavalry commander would take decisions on the spot. I think in the army organization I will need to create a division for cavalry and send the division commander out with the cavalry to scout and be able to give the cavalry brigade direct orders

Thanks, can we get a little tutorial on the strategic section. Like why my arms won't engage enemy armies while on offensive stance.
@TheHistoryGuy4 жыл бұрын
That sounds more like a glitch. Is the enemy army flashing because its in retreat? Thats the only time I've had that happen.
@davidingbar8464 жыл бұрын
If the army is in retreat, it can go wherever without consequence. Follow up and destroy is a hallmark of Jomnian tactics, I'm confident the Devs will work it out. My spring 1861 campaign is kinda broken right now. I defended Harper's Ferry twice, moved cavalry around the lines of retreat, and the damned rebels bounce around like its pong. Won't give battle or surrender. The retreating army recaptured Richmpnd. I had them outnumbered 4:1 and in engagement range. We're in this together, report and destroy the bugs. Pathong issues for AI units on the campaign map, and all units in battles. It's too easy to fix a superior force with skrirmishers and hold them in place. My first few Gettysburg attempts were decided when the rebs were fixed in place by withdrawing cavalry.

My first campaign has 20 csa armies of less than 10 men each. Same thing won't engage or surrender

Was really hoping for more strategy, as opposed to explaining the interface. How do you know where to set up? Where do I put cavalry and artillery? If I am attacking rather than defending, how do you approach finding the enemy location and how do you bring your army up into favorable ground for attack?
@TheHistoryGuy4 жыл бұрын
Honestly though, strategy is different for every person and different for every situation. These tutorials are meant to help people understand how to play the game rather than a tutorial on how to win the game.

If this game had the battles of ultimate general Gettysburg, it would be a masterpiece. Unfortunately the battles for me are very difficult and you can't make small movements and adjustments. I don't like how it feels so wonky. It's a great game but I just wish the battles were easier to manage. It's just so wonky and you can't trust it tbh.
