A MASSIVE tip also before even practicing is first learning the 7 principles of art (balance, proportion, emphasis, variety, movement, rhythm, harmony) every good piece or sketch always has accurate perspective, proportion, lighting effect, depth perception (contrast), texture and structure (anatomy). Practice without this knowledge does you no good, it will only get you into a habit of drawing a certain way that will be that much harder to correct (unlearn) later.. if you have this basic knowledge first, drawing well will be SO MUCH FASTER and you will only really need to clean up line work and improve on setting tones and shades more accurately... the basis to all good art is visual understanding and correct placement. If you ever want to be a professional artist the most important thing by far is to have the fundamentals down... practicing will do the job of cleaning up your work and making it a second nature with time. Great video too! Every other tip is 100% accurate as I do them without thinking today...

SeJason 56 Wow these tips here are incredible!! But what if you'd like to create a different style?
@sejason568 жыл бұрын
PrimaDove it's all the same, you even see the basic fundamentals in sports logos and cartoons.. going for a different style requires this too, I'd look for artists on Instagram that possess that style and just study and practice it... A good artist has consistency in their drawings... that consistency only comes with visual understanding and perfected hand-eye coordination through drawing practice... great art should resemble the essence of the real world and show off the creativity of imagination.

Light strokes. Shorter smaller lines. Draw the outline. Block out the main shapes before the detail. Proportions first before details. ex: face. Face mapping. More room for error. Go easy on erasing. Don't abuse your eraser. Use different colors! Who says you can't draw a blue person wearing a flower crown?! Light and shadows. Gradient scale. White to black and shading. Pay attention to what inspires you or sparks your creativity.

What I like about your vlogs is that they are still so full of things related to art. Instead of a time-lapse video, they give you a look behind the time lapses and I really hope you'll keep making them cause I feel like everyone who loves art (which are a lot more people than only me) like them loads. :D And lovely, beautiful art work as always. I don't know if I ever said this but normally my taste in art is really different from what yours is, but something makes me just want to get every painting you ever did and hang them all up in my room because I simply adore them.

Hey ^^ Nice video! I actually don't agree with the idea to make little stokes, instead of long lines. In art school, my life drawing teacher makes us draw without lifting the pen, so that we can step away from trying to make it look perfect, and focus more on fluidity. Little strokes are more precise, but they cut down the continuity, especially in figure drawing; bodies aren't made up of little parts, they're a continuous shape. I guess it depends on the person, everyone has their techniques, but I'd recommend training in using long lines, as it will train your hand to be steady, you'll gradually become more comfortable and confident in your lines and the movement of the drawing, the dynamism is preserved =)
@HappyDArtist8 жыл бұрын
I agree to a certain extent... But if you're just starting out, smaller lines will help you control your proportions and slowly build the correct shape of whatever you're drawing, then longer lines later when you have an actual idea of what shape you want to draw. :)
@josephablack7598 жыл бұрын
our professor (Im studying Interior Design) taught us the same.
@93maija8 жыл бұрын
I've been taught the same as well, from my art teachers, and I totally get why they say it. What I like to do though (or not LIKE, but what I'm most comortable with), is to sketch with lots of little light strokes, and do more longer lines when I'm happy with the shape and angle and going over my drawing with a pen.
@LillenArt28 жыл бұрын
As long as your light strokes looks like one continuous line and doesn't look sketchy then I think it's fine. I have heard people debate over this topic before and honestly there are no rules when it comes to art. Whatever works for you do it just keep other methods in mind.
@anhkimii8 жыл бұрын
hmm i think that shes talking about when youre trying to build up your form though, but yes i think that your long lines point is valid when it comes to figure drawing such as drawing gesture

Perfect tips. These are even useful to me as a person who wants to do digital art. I know what people are saying about the long strokes, but I've seen many artist that have made the same tip as you have. Start out short and light first, then when you get a better idea of what you're doing finish it with long and dark strokes. I've been doing this for years and this is the only reason why I'm as good as I am. Either way, it all depends on what works best for you.

Hello, This was the first time that I have seen Your channel. Thank You for Your 5 tips. I am much older but always learn. I loved how You shared practice, Practice, PRACTICE! You are so right there. In My life, I have put down and picked up my drawing and/or painting. You can really see when I have not drawn or painted in a while. It is like I am a beginner again. Today, I don't put it down for more than a few days or a week at most. The control of the hand goes away. It gets rusty for lack of a better term. I surprise Myself with how something that I thought that I could never draw turns out. It turns out better than I expect many times! Practice does make perfect. My hands get less sore and don't feel awkward in moving in a way to get my desired results also. Thank You for Your sharing with Us. I loved watching and learning Your 5 Steps too. You do a GREAT JOB! 😊❤️👍🏼🌫🖌✏️

my biggest struggle that ive had with art since i started is that i just stare at a blank piece of paper and nothing happens i just feel more depressed and cant continue without using a refference and when i try i try to copy all the lines and it doesnt come out as great but its ok but on the other side i think that im not doing anything by copying. im trying to do painting now cuz i found ur vids and i feel so inspired all your vids are so motivative and im so thankfuk that i stumbled across one of ur vids and instantly subscribed and i dont wish i can become as you one day cuz we are all different but like as good as you. for the past months ive left drawing aside because i felt so down and uninspired but now im finally in my form back cause of you and ill continue my dream and passion of becoming, an artist. thank you HappyDArtist.
@berryzem8 жыл бұрын
Think of references as tools to help guide and teach you along your art journey. Even professionals use references, so there is no need to feel ashamed or embarrassed. Use copying other art to teach yourself by figuring out what works and what you like and apply it to your own drawings and paintings. Chances are if you're copying all the lines it's because you're focused on replicating the picture and not learning about the subject matter itself. Be engaged and ask yourself questions while trying to break the piece down into its most basic of components. Take your time too, we all progress differently. If you're feeling frustrated, it's because art means a lot to you. Good luck!

This is going to sound crazy but the best way not to be intimidated by a blank page is to start a sketchbook. My sketchbook is my private world. I tell myself it's for scribbles that don't really mean anything, not serious masterpieces. That is what helps me. It takes months to develop a visual library (usually by doing studies) before someone can draw without references. The reason Happy is able to do things without reference is because she's always painting and drawing. If you can have fun with art and keep at it, the same will happen for you. References are not cheating. The more you study life, the more you understand the subject visually.

I've said it before Happy but don't mind saying it again. I love your videos; both your art ones and the vlogs! ❤️😀I think it gives us more variation and more interest. Maybe you should think about a schedule so people who only want to watch the time lapses will get to know when they should watch? Easier said than done, I'd imagine! On a separate note, I had a thought for my fellow subscribers - I mainly work in colored pencil and using a light hand enables you to use many many layers of different colors in that medium and that gives the piece depth, kind of similar to glazing oils. If you press hard, you lose the tooth of the paper and it won't be able to hold any more pigment.

That's true, practising is important. I got better last year, I was drawing a lot, but since like August or maybe sooner in 2016 I almost stopped drawing, like one "bigger" drawing in two months, I had some kind of art crisis or something, it just didn't feel that good as usually. I seek like minded individuals that are just that, individual and embracing balance in there life. I was guided to you because of your gifts and your frequency. If you change that, who you are you attracting? Changing to accommodate others... what will you be attracting? Someone who will expect you to change for them because that's what we were taught to do when we put/think about someone else 's needs over our own needs. If you look up the meanings of the words nice and polite you will NOT find them defined as someone who sacrifices their happiness to accommodate the happiness of others. Thank you for sharing your gifts, with me. I found you two weeks ago. Your messages and art inspired me. Lynette "A true gift benifits the giver an the reciever"... Suzie O.

Just discovered you a few days ago and I think I've watched nearly all of your videos already! I love your style and all of your tips! If you don't already have a video on the subject, I'm curious about creating "mixed media" pieces. I'm a beginner (only started sketching about 3-4 months ago but I'm improving fast!) and I really have no idea how to use multiple color sources without ruining the piece. For example, I tried doing a piece with Copic marker and colored pencil but when I went over the pencil line with the marker the pencil line started to "fray" and thicken and just look ... bad haha. Maybe this is a really basic question but I'm just starting my art journey and I'd love any input you have. New subscriber! :)
