a lot of people say "wow I will never be able to draw beautiful as you!" but then there's me, and when I always see your or other talented people's art I say to myself "I'll get there! I know I will, I'm still only 12 years old, I have a lot of time still to get to this! but I know I'm close!" seeing beautiful art only encourages me to never give up and never quit.

A little off topic, but my best work is what I began doing for my girlfriend. I've always been careful about relationships, and only got into my first one at 22 after being best friends with her for 5 years. The picture I was painting was about Soulmates, and it was meant for her, and I spent too many hours on it. But this person really wrecked me after a long history of good memories, closed the chapter on the worst note, and told me she was never one for commitment. And I'm still painting that picture, each time I open it I feel like I feel like I dwindle into this dark crippling place again. But in doing so I feel like I challenge my past, and move on, healing myself little by little. My emotions and sensitivity are my strongest asset as an artist, I use to fuel all my paintings, and I always ink a piece of my onto that canvas. It's difficult going back to old work for that reason, because you ether have to feel those emotions all over again, or leave it in the past. P.S I just found your channel Happy D. and I really love it and all the topics you talk about.Thank you for sharing your perspective, you are a wonderful artist and human being

I recently finished a gouache painting for a concept I had playing with for a while. half-way through the painting I realized that it wasn't turning out how I wanted it to. I decided to push through anyway, and it doesn't look entirely how I want it to. however, finishing it greatly boosted my confidence and struggling through the painting helped me discover things I need to work on as well as things that ended up working. it's not fun staring face to face with your failures but all mistakes can be teachers.

There are many artists on KZbin with aesthetics similar to yours, ethereal and feminine, but there's always something plastic and "mass-produced" about their paintings. And your work just stands out, it has an exceptional amount of maturity and depth - your characters have souls. You are a true artist and a real inspiration. Thank you for all your advice :)

I honestly love this type of video where an artist does a voice over and just give advice. I end up trying to find ways to be able to listen to the video offline or when I go to bed, or even when I'm anxious about my art or just generally anxious and it calms me down. If I love just listening. I'll watch the video once and at random I'll go back just to listen to it.

Hey, piece of advice, when you get a "splotch" on watercolor you don't like, don't use paper towels. Magic eraser will take it off. It could have saved the piece.

I know I'm late but this was very useful . Lately I have started a lot of drawings that I didn't feel like finishing , I felt like they looked bad in some way and because I felt like that I believed that people are also going to not like them and the drawing is not going to get a lot of support ( all artists know how frustrating is that when thinking of the fact that you worked days on it and sometimes you even went to sleep at 1 am just to draw more and then woke up at 6 am for school ) . One week ago I forced myself to finish this Christmas drawing that in the beginning I truly hated but in the end I loved and the first hours were tough but when the drawing was starting to like what I imagined I felt this amazing feeling that pushed me into art in the beginning . I am also a perfectionist ..if something doesn't look right in my vision then I get so depressed . I always try to find great ideas that inspire me and that I believe people will like because for me the people that watch my art very important ..sending a message to them is so important for me and this is another reason why i never finished my recent drawings ..because I felt like I was not sending any message and I felt like the drawings is just plain . I keep trying to push myself to find these ideas that are going to make a change . So many of these things I said are toxic and now I am in a process of trying to start loving my art just the way it is , I am trying to realize that not every trying is supposed have a deep message behind and sometimes is good just to have fun drawing . I believe I've put to much pressure on me because I kept waiting for the Christmas break to come thinking that I would draw every single day and I would post awesome content but sadly it is not like that ..inspiration didn't hit me the way I wanted ... I was very disappointed of my work and yeah that sucks . Earlier today I found this quote saying "People don't want their ability judged , they rather have their effort judged" . Your video really encouraged me to finish my latest piece and not give up because I might like the result . Sorry for the long message but this has been pressing on my heart for so long and I finally found a video that helped me .

Sometimes when I feel stuck in a piece, or I feel like I'm messing up a lot, I'll do a work study. Usually I find a famous artwork or something that inspired me, and just do a little painting of it on watercolor paper. It really reminds me of the properties of whatever medium I'm using and colors and other various design aspects. Then, I'll revisit my piece with fresh and more practiced eyes. It really helps me get out of artist block, and I really recommend trying it.

When my white Arabian horse passed away, he came to me in a dream to show me where he was waiting for me. He took me to a field of green grass that was the brightest, most beautiful color green I have ever seen, the wind was soft and made the grass dance in it's gentle caresses. I rode on his back feeling his silky soft hair against my skin, his long soft white mane intertwined with my long flowing black hair, he ate the sweet grass and it smelled so sweet. He then took me to a pond filled with beautiful coy fish and my german shepard dog was playing like a young pup, in the water with them, she was so happy to see me as well. When I see this painting...I think of my beloved horse and dog. Thank you Erika :)

I think I can remember one time where I made myself keep working even though I was about to give up. I had such a hard time drawing a dress and I spent hours erasing and redrawing it until I was finally able to draw it the way I was happy with. I'm glad I didn't give up on it because now that it's done I'm very pleased with it.

I've recently found you on KZbin and I have to say that I love your artwork and style! Your artwork is simply Awesome!! Your videos, tips and the way your started are inspiring. On things that you mention I can totally relate, Hopefully one day I'll get to be the artist that you are. Thank You for inspiring me to start my art dream that I had left behind again and again due to so many reasons. Sometimes its hard, I feel like I have so many ideas in my head but when I try drawing nothing comes out, this is one of the reasons why I just said maybe Art is simply just not for me and have given up so many times, until I came across your videos, I still don't know how to transfer those ideas in my head but I'm willing to try again Thanks to you... the pieces that started everything was "Dreamer and Silent Serenade" all I can say is "Wow"!!!!

I want to get better at art so I can love it more, but it's always a struggle to grab a pencil and paper at home and find a comfortable place to draw. There's nowhere I could call my art studio. I just try to find a chair to sit on and a hard surface to draw on. But even when I'm drawing, I don't feel like I'm making any progress. I just end up doodling and wasting lots of paper. When my mom or brother walk by, I hide my doodles because they're too embarassing to show anyone. Luckily I'm going to college in a week, so hopefully I may improve my art skills there.

With great art comes technique, and not supplies. You should be confident with sharing your work, because there will always be two reactions; love or hate. Now let's say they react negatively, take it as a way to become better, take it as a positive thing, instead of something that will let you down. Drawing in general is making progress, so don't worry about it. I know that this is hard because I personally had to experience it but try to feel confident, and it will bring the haters down. I hope you do enjoy college. Good luck.

To get better you need to draw more. I understand how you feel about doddling versus drawing and I find drawing from life by watching actual objects, or using photo references has helped me develop my skills, because I have to look and see tones and values and shapes and I try to capture these in my drawings. As you will be on a campus draw things on the campus. Draw buildings, people, plants, flowers, trees, benches, cars, anything you see that interests you. If you try this, then you might notice more of an improvement in your skills. I hope it can help you. Best Wishes.

This video made me legit improve more. When I digitally painted, I looked at my work at the time and I hated it with passion. It looked weird the next day. Between this and your painting process video, it really changed how I worked. Now I go back to my old work, screenshot it, and draw over it in procreate and Medibang. By going over it, it made me realize weird body proportions or it made hand angles, etc. I've fixed really funky eyes before before mediband, transferred it to procreate then fixed it. In the end, I saved the pictures and kept working on it instead of straight up deleting

Thank you so much! I needed this! I was working on two particular pieces at the same time and I actually improved my skill on one in the middle of this, which shows on the second rather than the first (in the time it took to paint the first subject, I figured out how to better paint hair by the time I finished and got to the second one). I've also made progress since I decided to take a break from these two pieces and now I have a hard time wanting to go back to them. However, I had promised people that I would eventually finish those two pieces in a certain way and I don't want to end up starting over since the pieces took several hours each. It's tough, but I will need to do it, so again, thank you.

Thank you for making these videos. I used to draw and pain a lot before. Even made portraits of/for people, but it's been a long time away from it now and I've developed anxiety that I won't be able to again that has made the threshold to start working that much higher even though I miss it. Your videos and great advice has been very soothing in a way for me, to help me get over the perfectionist-blockage and just start doing it even if it's not going to be great works of art in the beginning.

Watercolor paper has sizing(coat of gelatin) on it!! Which ensures colors wouldn't sink in too deeply. so, later you can remove pigments. Which I don't think acrylic paper has(I'm not sure). I think that's why the brown patch didn't go away!!

I was wondering if you could do a painting/video/tutorial with an image of a person male/female that has the features that come with age & gravity in your aesthetic. I had this idea because I'm always in awe of my parents, but they no longer have the look/proportions of youth. I wonder if you are able to capture the magic of an older person in your work. Would love to see something like that!

ooo can you talk about the print making process? from how it's made to which ones you choose to make a limited print collection and what equip you use? or just a video that shows your process?

thank you for this video. I've been painting digitally everyday for 3 years and I always seem to give up on my pieces before I give it a chance. I have skills people dream of and yet there's nothing to show for it!

I've just found your channel about 6 videos ago. I am absolutely drawn in by your style, consider me charmed. This piece in particular created a very emotional reaction and hearing you talk about it as well as my own inner story attached to it was very surreal. I would love to have one of your prints of this piece... I hope its still available when I would be able to purchase. Enjoying your channel and now I must watch everything! Definitely following you on instagram too! So glad I found you!

I must say, my ideas never end up like at the beginning. I think, that's just my style. I just start with an idea, but at the end, it's completely different. And to be honest, I like that! Because, the moment when I start, I never know how it will end. Its everytime a little experiment. And that's the kind of stuff, I love when I draw. You never know what will happen.

Thank you so much for this! I'm so thankful for your words... they've really taught me a lot and given me something to think about in my work. I hope to develop more patience with my art to help create the vision i set out to create in the first place. also your voice is so lovely! I wish you would make a podcast for artists to listen to as they work.... I'll definitely be listening to your wise words as i paint in the future!

Loved this video. All you talked about has happened to me too. The truth is that I have never created anything amazing with investing enough time in it. Even when you do an amazing drawing in a few seconds, there are many hours of practice behind it.
