Using the AXS app pre ride to sync your battery percentages provides the fuel gauge you are looking for. Checking your battery charge state is as easy as spooling up the AXS app…percentages are easily viewed in app pre ride. Not hokey at all. Tip 6: check for firmware updates when you sync your components with…you guessed it…the AXS app. This provides the latest version of software for your hardware. Finally, SRAM explained during the launch webinar that T Type cassettes use an engineered shift map to provide the smoothest/quietest shift point, hence the perceived “slower” shifting. Thanks for the great tips.

Great input. Yes, the original Sram AXS forces the shift instantly. The process of pressing a button and reading the flashing light is not ideal. And firing up an app for shifter battery level is better but a bit tedious for every ride. App is great for configuration. Firmware updates… I have to really check and be sold on what changes they’re making for the shifter.

I concur with your comment and the fact that the APP is easy and clear about battery charge. I have been riding AXS for 4 years and never needed an extra battery.

I learned the, carry extra batteries tip, early on. I have a Specialized Turbo Levo with AXS and I forgot to check the rear and I had a low battery notification on the Mastermind screen of bike. I had to be selective with my shifts bc I didn't want to die out on the ride. The next day I ordered a spare battery and carry it with me. I've never needed it because I check the rear battery level regularly. I also carry a CR2032 battery for the shifter but so far after 13 months it's still running. There is a small button on the shifter and the derailleur that you can push and it will show you the battery level with either a green, yellow or red light. The Specialized Turbo Levo has the option to connect the derailleur to the system so that you can see what gear your in, and also the battery level. It will give you a warning when you are low.

I have the dropper post and the derailleur that way if my derailleur battery dies I can set my seat and swap batteries and shift to finish my ride. Also as a secondary theft prevention I put it in the tallest gear and drop my seat all the way down then remove the batteries. That way if I stop to use the restroom or grab a coffee no one can ride off with my bike or if they try they can’t go very fast at all

I’ve done that in my group many times. Better than nothing but 2 points of failure. Carrying a fully charged spare battery is key

Hey! A bit off topic, but you seem very knowledgeable and experienced with sram and e-bikes. Can i use the new T chain on existing eagle and 12 speed drivetrain?

Unfortunately…T type “flat top” chains will only work on T type cassettes/chain rings.

That is a great question! I’ll test it out. But I’ve used t-type cassettes with old AXS and it works fine. The t-type chain should be stronger

I was thinking stronger is better for e-bike, but I was worried about wearing out jockey wheels or cassette prematurely..

I purchased a T chain and eagle gx 1275 cassette. I’m on the fence of trying the T chain or returning for an eagle chain. I think the deciding factor is if I can get a chain locally so I can get on my bike and ride! If so, I’ll try the T chain when this one wears out, trying on a worn cassette is a little less painful than a brand new one!
