Truth be told, Gamma Guts has saved me on so many runs it's ridiculous. It makes the sewers, regular labs, and fighting Technomancer in looped labs an absolute breeze. A very useful mutation in my opinion.

Just did 5 runs and in every of them I died, but only because I got spawned literally in the middle of the room, and I am bad at dodging around 50+ projectiles coming from all possible directions.. But 3rd one.. Is it really worth it? Or I should just dismiss bloodlust/+4hp if it pops up? Anyway, any tips for crows and basic bandits? They are so unpredictable I wait 10 seconds before going just to get shot right into face when all other times they shot into random directions... And I don't really agree with 1st one XD I don't want to see myself running into a maggot swarm and dying because game decided that sending 6 (big) maggots to charge at me at the same time was a good idea... +Purple Ice It's a really good idea to take health mutations, bloodlust and/or second stomach are essential for late game. Always take strong spirit too. For crows and bandits, move in a more circular pattern instead of the typical straight toward or away from them. You can bait the crows into corridors and take them out one at a time. The game is quite the bullet hell, so you just have to get good at dodging. If you have problems getting cornered, take hammer head, it's actually very useful for getting out of harrowing situations if you remember you have it.

+Purple Ice Also, five runs is not that great a sample, especially in a rouge-like. You need to play for at least five to eight hours before you have a decent sample of your runs.

I've been playing this game for a fairly long time (around 25-30 hours currently) and most of my best runs end at 5-3. I even made it to the Throne (almost) with YV. And interesting enough, #3 ended up being kind of helpful to me, mainly because I did not know Gamma Guts would actually prevent enemy touch damage.

Ehhhh... I gotta disagree on the recommendation of Crystal. You can easily become dependent on the shield and struggle with other characters, locking yourself into Crystal. IDK tho otherwise really good guide.

I mean, you aren't wrong about becoming dependant (it's damn hard to unlearn the blocking) but if it wasn't for his ease of play I wouldn't have played more than 20 hours assuming the game is broken bullshit instead of putting over 100ish hours into crystal alone. So while you have a point, I honestly think it would lessen the playerbase out of frustration if you had to learn on most other characters. While you can learn on them, it's a lot harder and more frustrating whixh will likely turn people off the game - see Dark Souls for an example lol

Gamma Guts is amazing in the loop. Not only does it entirely remove all worry about chip damage from weak and melee enemies, it's also an amazing backup if you run out of ammo and for some reason don't have a melee weapon. Got me to my first crystal caves on loop with a basic shotgun/crossbow combo. you will also often kill large enemies because they have probably taken some damage from all the shots you've sent out. Also can we talk about how this dude is a doctor?

Gamma guts is an amazing skill. it saved my ass in the palace many times when you shoot those slime dogs a few times but then they don't die and leap at you. I've done just enough damage for gamma guts to take them out without taking damage myself. Crystal is the best starting character and is the most forgiving. Melting is the least forgiving, you basically get one shot by pretty much every enemy in the game except maggots and one hit of fire damage until you get rhino skin.

Gamma guts is fine, but sharp teeth is not only a bad mutation, it's a bad recommendation. Taking sharp teeth will actively make you worse at the game. It rewards sloppy play with an effect that SOUNDS much better than it IS. It may help you get farther, but it will not help you get better.

I do really like gamma guts in this update, but to call it my favorite is a stretch. My favorite would probably be boiling veins because I love me some explosive runs. Hyper launcher is actually an amazing weapon without having to worry about dying. Also, it used to be almost necessary to take bloodlust with Melting, but since the strong spirit nerf, there are way less situations where it'll actually help, (unless you have rhino skin) better off sticking with rabbit paw for medkit drops. And finally, subscribed!

Tip 6 Don't stay on the red carpet in front of the throne, or you'll be really pissed.

Dunno if these have been stated already but I have a couple as well (also because in #67 he mentions people still failing at using Gamma Guts on the sewer rats). *Shovel/Sledgehammer with Scarier Face can also one-shot the Salamanders in the stockyard in addition to the Crystal Bugs in the cave. Grenade Launcher and Crossbow with Scarier Face also have these one-shot properties though they're not melee. All of these with Scarier Face can two-shot the Crystals in the cave when it'd normally be a three-shot. *Gamma Guts works on the sewer rats as long as you don't stop moving. If you stop moving, they'll hit you once before the second Gamma Guts tick, and they take two to kill. You can actually kill Assassins this way as a last-ditch desperation move (though getting near them in general is a bad idea). I don't actually know how fast Gamma Guts ticks, but the point is that it works better if you keep moving. If you're standing still, it is significantly less helpful. *At the same time, don't overly focus on trying to ram enemies with Gamma Guts to the point that you forget to fire and/or use your special. I know I've gotten myself killed that way quite a few times.

Great vid man, although i disagree with your recommendation for taking crystal as beginner character. I reckon with the right click ability beginners can fall into bad habits playing too defensively and relying to much on the shield instead of perfecting their dodge. Impact wrists is also fills the same role as gamma guts/ sharp teeth.

+Oliver Christie thanks! the reason i chose crystal is to build confidence for the first throne kill. i know others have disagreed with me, but new players get hyped the further they get into the game. nervous = worse play. once they can consistently get to throne, loop etc. they'll be able to improve with other characters. at least that's my justification for it.

Eyes solves the item problem. Eyes also lets you drag enemies up to walls so you can smack them with a wrench or shovel. But what do I know, I haven't even broken the level 3-4 barrier yet (Mostly exploding robot deaths. Last run had promise, and I ran into an optional easter egg that exploded me)

Haha, no no no no no... :D I'm not that bad anymore, and I play fairly agressive. I also getting used to play as the robot, cause he didn't have some kind of "special move" and I can concentrate on the basics. The weapon-eating is nice, if I got lucky and get health back. Only problem I have, if I spawn in a large open area. The crow-level and the ice-level aren't THAT if you are a bit cautious, but spawning in the large open area really screws me over cause enemies are in 360° direction and not only 45°. ^^"

Here's an actual guide. Play the most difficult characters first. Crystal is a crutch but she's meant for higher level play to get farther with health-tanking. Play Rogue. Play Melting. Play Skeleton. Play them. You condition yourself faster to not do stupid shit if you play a glass cannon. Find out which mutations take you far, and try to stick with 'em.

I completely agree with Gamma Guts! One of my favorite mutations next to Long Arms and Impact Wrists. I like to play Chicken a lot and all three of those come in handy. Fuck Lil Hunter though....
