I loved this video. I am planning on staying in Rio for couple months and this advice is amazing. You have to be aware of your surroundings, but Rio is beautiful and there is no other place like it in the world.

I loved your video. I've been to Brazil twice and never had any problems with safety - even when walking the streets of the city of Goiânia. I practiced the tips you described, as I would for any large city in the world - even in my home country. I did have my iPhone with me, but I kept it out of sight when in public. And I also carried 20 reais in my pocket just in case. But I had a wonderful time and all the Brazilians I encountered were amazingly warm and friendly.

Thanks for your safety tips. These apply to any place in the world. I've been to Salvador ,Bahia many times and never had trouble . But the hustlers and bandits are there for sure ! I always dress like I don't have 2 Reis to rub together . Trouble is, I'm 6'1" and white as a sheet, so it's tough not to look like a "gringo " whether I speak Portuguese or not ! kkkk

I only take my credit card with me - no cash, no wallet, no ID - wherever I go. 99% of legitimate businesses accept credit cards in Brazil. Worse case scenario a thief steals my card which I can block from my cellphone. Plus I earn cashback and can track my spending.

Being careful and alert if your a stranger in any extremely large city is definitely advisable. I'm English and I've had friends in the past say they would never go to Rio because of the crime and violence. At the same time a few of them have quite happily travelled to South Africa that I believe has 3 cities: Pretoria, Durban and Johannesberg who have a higher per capita incidence of crime and murder than Rio!

@@FalandoNissocomAndressa I agree with you! At the very least it's illogical. Makes no sense to say no to Rio but yes to more violent cities. For me whenever I see those famous photos of Rio taken from the Christ the redeemer statue I think no city has ever been built in a more beautiful location. Uma cidade marhavilhosa and one I hope to visit one day😊🇧🇷🇬🇧
