After visiting over 46 countries around the world, including 44 States in the USA, 4 Provinces in Canada, and being in Rio like 10 times, I do not find RIO to be any worse than most countries I have been to. However I came to the realization that both Europeans and Anglo Americans, were very keen on trashing Brazil, especially the French, the English and the USA. I was assaulted in Frankfurt at gun point by TWO EUROPEANS, after arriving from INDIA, where nobody threatened me at all, acosted in San Francisco TWICE, and New York as well. NOT ONCE IN RIO. Traveled to over 20 States in Brazil and no problems anywhere, at all. All of this for over 5 decades.

New York.. is My City, Sorry that Happen 2 U Here. Question tho, how do U afford 2 Travel So Much...
@lecirdaluz
@lecirdaluz Жыл бұрын
@@rollingratchet : how can I afford to travel: Great question. First, check your priorities in Life. Second: If Traveling is a priority over raising a family, then choose places of your choice in advance.Third: set up a budget to include savings of an x amount of dollars during an x amount of time. Fourth: Research cost of living and value of the exchange rate of your $$$ to your target countries. Examples: Europe, including Scandinavia and UK tend to be the most expensive places that I have been to, so I needed extra time to save and less time over there. Australia and New Zealand tend to be about the same as the US - but worth every penny. In South America, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay are a lot less expensive - choose mid size towns to visit, where you’ll be sure to meet nice locals. Argentina is your best bet because they really need dollars down there right now. I've only been to North Africa, Israel, Bahrain and Turkey in the western part of Asia. Loved it too, but must keep your research updated regarding unrests in that part of the world. Last but not least…the Good old USA and Canada - nothing gives me more pleasure than to chit-chat with folks I meet…over a nice glass of beer. Learned a lot more from making new friends than all my classes in college put together. Humans are wonderful and magnetic 🧲 all over - if we’re nice we attract nice, as simple as that - go for it my friend.

@@Frivals : We make our own reality. Luck or lack thereof plays no role in my live. Just spent another wonderful vacation upstate São Paulo. Nothing but a tremendously wonderful vacation. Brazilians are terrific. You should visit this Great Country 🇧🇷 . Statistically speaking Brazil is safer. In the US we've already had over 200 shooting sprees this year alone, in Brazil 🇧🇷 none…not one. That’s a nice statistic for you.

My wife and I spent two weeks in Rio and even though we are Senior citizens, never felt in danger. Like you, we used common sense when out in the city wearing non descript clothing, leaving the jewelry in the safe, and being aware of our surroundings at all times. The people in Rio were warm, friendly, and the staff at our hotel were very informative suggesting where to go safely. We are returning to Rio in April of 2024 confident in our ability to have a safe experience in the most beautiful city in the world

As a Brazilian myself I can guarantee that you are safe, in the SOUTH ZONE. But the thing is, everything is in the South Zone. The Christ, the Sugar Loaf, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Maracanã, you name it. The tourist area is a single massive oasis of peace and beauty, even with the favelas on top of it. These favelas, merged into rich areas, are "gourmet" if you will. You can go up there and enjoy the view, they have music, they have sport, leisure, they have a huge community spirit. And while you will indeed find people struggling, they are the workers that maintain the prosperous areas lit, so they have a better condition anyway. Now, outside of the South Zone, then you have War Zone. Literally. Some places are not controlled by the state, there are paramilitary groups, dirty cops and drug lords fighting to death. This will be true for the big cities in Brazil: safe heaven large clusters of prosperity, with poverty in the center (less) and misery in the periphery (a lot). The countryside however is gigantic and calmer. You can do all the nature trips you want and your worst problem will be probably a wild animal or the damn mosquitoes.

I disagree with their trip to the Christo statue. I found it to be pretty cool. The train ride up is amazing. The praias (beaches) were beautiful and yes, so were the women. They were as kind as they were beautiful! I was 57 at the time. I would love to go again. (from Northern California)

Like you though I realized that it isn’t any different than any other big city in the world and as long as you use common sense and don’t dress too flashy you’ll be fine. Rio is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to (maybe THE most beautiful when it comes to raw natural beauty) and I’m pleased to say that I’m headed back there in about 10 days! I had one attempted scam but I was never robbed or anything, although a friend who came visiting was, but he had let his guard down and went into a dark square at night. Hey! Awesome video! Thanks for the nice words about the city! Rio is the second biggest city in Brazil and the rates include all other areas the tourists don't get near when staying in the south zone (Copacabana, Ipanema). So, you are right in saying that it's not as bad as people make it, but it's because you get only a glimpse of the city.

I visited Rio about a month ago and spent five days there. I also spent time in San Pedro Atacama (Chile), Salar de Uyuni and La Paz (Bolivia). I am American and was greeted and met some of the nicest people ever, it was tons of fun. People there were super helpful and friendly, and I felt safer in Rio than in my hometown NY. There was also lots of security and police in measure so I didn't feel an ounce of danger during my Brazilian visit. Sometimes I was extra careful because many people told me horror stories. But then again, I walked by myself at night and never had any problems. The only difficulty I encountered was after the Carnival, asking for directions to return to my hostel, almost no one, besides tourists of course, but practically none of the locals speak any English. Google translate and interacting with tourists helped me a lot. Also, there are many beautiful areas worth exploring in Brazil besides Rio. I hope to visit Brazil again, I've heard that Bahia, the Amazonicas, Pantanal, Florianopolis are gorgeous. Maybe I will learn some Portuguese before making another trip to Brazil 😊. I've heard that Peru is also very beautiful, but I haven't been to Peru yet.

When I was in Rio as a young man in 77, I walked from Botafogo all the way up to the Christ Statue, I walked the last bit because the funicular railway was broken down at the time and I chose not to take a taxi. Even then the city was not particularly safe, but personally I had no troubles.

Crime rate here is NOT as far as Chicago, Paris or L.A. ... But there's an international net amplifying bad news about Rio in past 30 years... ( By the way São Paulo crime rate is waaay worst than Rio nowadays) . Rio is wonderfull and Its people also ! 😉😉👍👍

What was your experience of walking the streets after sunset? And did you get to Lapa or Leblon? I'm heading to Rio in April and your insights were great. thanks.
@SomethingToRemember
@SomethingToRemember 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! Around touristy areas (Copacabana/Ipanema) even after the sunset there is nothing to worry about, but we would recommend to be cautious about your belongings, especially if you will go partying in crowded places. Leblon is the safest place, but your accommodation there and at Ipanema will be more pricy. Lapa is a bit more dodgy to be honest and we haven’t been there at night, but we’ve meet some people who stayed there and they said it was alright, but they were walking with company, so we wouldn’t really recommend walking there on your own after the sunset… but we might be wrong! Enjoy your trip😍

I would be very careful in Lapa if you go at all. I went with a local girl, but otherwise I wouldn't have gone at all. Many foreigners (particularly white men I believe) have been drugged and then robbed after going there. Just watch Swedish Gringo's video on Lapa if you want the real story.

Hi Dave! We were apprehensive about whipping out our Canon camera at first, but after a couple of days we realized that as long as you are vigilant in busy public areas then you are just fine. A good tip is to use a neck-strap and keep it around your neck - that way it’s easily accessible for you and also makes it hard for anyone to swipe it! Enjoy your time in Rio - we loved it! 😊

Actually there's another hike at the sugar loaf mountain that's one of the esiest in Rio, where you don't need any gear and no tourist guide. The hike is basically steps and it's the free way to get to the top and the option I always choose as a local

I went to Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of last year. Everything was very good, I didn't see anything happening, I enjoyed the beaches, I hiked the Morro da Urca trail, among many other things. I HIGHLY recommend the trip, but you need to be aware that you are not at your home. You must be very careful with your belongings and watch where you go, just like any other place in the world that I've been.

Brazil/Rio are well known by Christ the Redeemer. But Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) is a much more interesting and enjoyable visit. Less crowded, more space and stunning views. Especially during sunset. The transition from a sunny city to a lit city at night, with the city lights gradually turning on, with the sunset in the background, is unreal.

Next time, try going to the Lakes Region. Bye!!

I’ve been traveling a lot and visited many countries, I just came back from Rio and found it very safe, clean and wonderful. They talk bad about Rio cause they’re envious. I was robbed in Dublin, I was in the middle of a gun shot in New Orleans and I felt very unsafe in Canada with a lot of drugged people and homeless bothering you in the streets. I love Rio ❤
