Great tips! I’m in my 5th year of homeschooling and I came to the realization (kind of early on, thankfully) that I had to treat it like my job. I wouldn’t be on my phone, browsing the internet if I were at an outside job....so I probably shouldn’t do it now when I’m trying to teach my kids. Haha! They deserve more and my kids can totally tell if I’m distracted or focused on them. And let me tell you, our days go SO much better and faster when I’m not distracted and focusing on them. Thanks for all you do! Love your channel! Bless you in the name of Jesus!

Keeping my phone in the other room is definitely helpful. I usually glance over tomorrow's lesson when teaching today's lesson. I'd like to get better at even prepping for the week or month to make sure I have things on hand for projects, experiments, etc.

A Beautiful Horizon ahh yes me too on the project front! I'm thinking of starting a last week of the month afternoon to make a list and get all supplies at once!

I've found myself going back to this video every year as a refresher to ensure I try to stick to these tips! These helped me at lot and I feel I need reminders for next school year so I imagine I'll watch it many times before we start school again. Ashlee .... we do have different views on many things. However, I respect your views and appreciate all you have to offer. Thanks again.

Thank you for the tips. The one about removing distractions for Mom was a hard one to hear I am always trying to multitask and it does cost me when it comes to efficiency.
@GraceandGrit7 жыл бұрын
M. A. Hickman it is so so hard. I too am a chronic multitasker but I've found that it translates a not so great message to my kids so I really really try to be strict about it with myself!

Thank you Ashlee. I needed this one. My son struggles with focus and this past week it took him ALL day to do one worksheet. We are trying to encourage self discipline but I can see where distractions are such an issue...I will be applying these this week

I have four littles with my oldest just starting kindergarten this year. I read aloud during nap/rest time where everyone can hear me. I chose IEW for teaching reading and there is a game component to it where my kindergartener can play and practice phonics independently while I am making dinner at the end of her lessons.

Hi, Thankyou for your wonderful videos. I homeschooled for 3 years and have sent my 2 kids to school this year. Because of Corona we are homeschooling back again. I found your channel early this year and have realised all what i didn't do right in many many ways . However, because of kids being at school and finding your channel i got time to introspect. I seriously miss my kids badly when they go to school and I am using this time to revisit homeschool with better skills learnt. And we are doing well. Thankyou for that. However, I have 1 issue. I am not able to do anything with my younger one. I understand you said do younger one before and then older one. So, younger one will be practically done very quickly while i am with him? and he is simply playing around rest of the day while i am busy with my older one. I feel bad for him and feel that he gets ignored way too much! Once I am able to do both my kids I would be more confident to restart my HS! Thankyou again for wonderful videos! I am hooked to them and practically achieving so much.

Maybe you have already done a video in this, but how to you organize/store the school books so your kids and you can pull them off the shelf for each day? In the background of this video it looks like you have a nice wooden file type organizer. Can you link where you got that and share what you store in there? TIA.

Hi, I just found your channel (amazingly informative btw!) We are starting homeschooling in Sept and I am going back and forth between Sonrise and The Good and Beautiful. What was your experience and what made you switch / do you use Sonrise still. Thanks again!
@GraceandGrit6 жыл бұрын
Em Lopez I am not using Sonlight any longer. The switch has been wonderful for my family needs not because Sonlight was bad. I’ll have more info to come on my change as the year progresses:)

LOVE the tips! Thank you. Small tip for your videos... your eyes are focussed on something slightly to the side of the camera (maybe you are watching the video of yourself as you record). It is a bit awkward and distracting. I have seen some other youtubers do this also and it can look like they're more interested in waching themselves on the screen than in producing a quality viewing experience for their audience. Though in reality I'm sure they just haven't realized what an eye sore it is. Just an observation to help your channel out. Love the content and your sweet attitude.

What do you do with a child that is not very focused when working independently? I have 4 kids to split my attention between, and my entering-3rd grader struggles with focus. He doesn’t struggle because a concept is too challenging for him, he just draws it out because he gets distracted with his thoughts while I am working 1:1 with another child. The same math that he can complete in under 10 minutes when I sit with him and keep his attention on the work takes him easily 45+ minutes when i ask him to work alone. It is SO frustrating to me, because it means our school day is drawn waayyyyy out and we end up not having time for other things I’d love to do with them!

Hello Ashley, how is it going? I hope you are doing great. Well, I am going to start teaching English to a six-year-old Brazilian girl using the Sonlight materials, and I'd like to ask something about that. What kind of material do I have to recommend their parents to buy? I mean, I'm not sure if they can order the Kindergarten or the 1st Grade one. I'm worried about the subjects being too difficult or too easy for her. She's pretty smart and I've been teaching her for almost 1 year, but only English in general, not specific subjects. Could you please help me? Best regards.
