Kim Jung Gi worked from reference relentlessly for years to build up the visible library to be able to draw like that without one. "Be less selective about references" is less-damaging advice that accomplishes the same goal of getting to the drawing faster.

I find it sooo demotivating looking at pinterest, I just feel really bad in comparison as an artist looking at all of the amazing work.

Ahh i completely understand, i used to compare my works to the old masters & other ppl also but it’s important to remember that they’ve most likely been drawing for a LOOONG time & put in the hours to draw that way. So use their works as inspo for a lvl that u can get to one day :)
