Many years ago, I had repeated unauthorized entry to my vehicle. I superglue'd razor blades to hook and loop velcro and attached it to the underside of the door handles and hood release. I never had the problem after locating the fingertips (3 in total) and blood down the side of my car door and on the ground. @Bryan-fn6lp Brilliant comment. 1000% agreed. The ongoing car thefts over the past, too many years, needs to be stopped. I'm extremely shocked and angry that the car manufacturers haven't nicked this yet. All the info is there in your comment... now, come on, engineers, get this situation to a non-issue!!! Too many folks still haven't a clue their car is a high risk for theft. Faraday boxes etc stop working after awhile. Here in canada the theives are following car owners, copying the key signal, then just scope out the car to find the best time to just take the car. You can turn your wheels, add a steering wheel club, add a port lock, install a non gps tracking system and still...if the theives really want your car bad enough...roll up a flatbed to steel it that way. This world is so far crazy it never going to right itself....just saying. And yea, I know a few who has their cars stolen. 🙏🕊🐾

So many in the comments don't understand - just turn off the keyless entry function. They'll be an option in your car's onboard system to do it. Also worth noting that several manufacturers have now brought out key fobs that deactivate after a given period of rest. Hence, they're inert after resting and can't be bridged. Both our new cars have this functionality.

Look microwave owen you have glas door but still work like perfect Faraday cage. Door are not galvanic connected with owen. And work. Why? On the glas you have printed metal mesh with small holes but much more smaller than ¼ wave lenght. And microwave owen use much higher frequency than key fob also much more stronger signal and no leak at all. If someone interested more in this topic need time. Microwave behaviour, microwave instalation this is special science. DIY Faraday cage builder often make manny wrong. Thinking they "know how".

@@zoran9a3hpdiy Lid gap for a fact does leak RF. I know this from personal testing. Just a small breach in the lid to can connection defeats the key-fob Faraday cage. My go to key-fob Faraday cage is half a paper towel tube (about 6") wrapped with several layers of tinfoil that also covers one end. The other end is left open. No lid etc. The diameter of the opening combined with the depth makes it an effective and convenient key-fob Faraday cage. Just drop the key-fob in and dump it out when needed. A couple weeks ago a car was stolen from a residential car park in the Cressex area. The owner used a Faraday bag. My theory is that the thieves have now upgraded to using a CAN Bus injection attack. They access the CAN bus via the head lights and send a data packet telling the car's computer that the key is present and validated. It then opens all locks and allows the engine to be started by the thieves. What can owners do to defend against that?

As these are stolen to order along with other brands of this level, thieves will be out an about looking for your vehicle. Once they see you by the road getting your kids in and out or even parked up whilst you're in the shops they stick a tracker under your car. The craze at the moment from multiple car thefts of high-end vehicles in London has involved the simple Apple Air-tag. £30 and on it goes. They sit back and wtch you from their iPhone go about your life and then see where you live. At this point they have worked out your routine with school run etc. and sit in your road and grab the key fob's signal as it has to come out off the protective storage. This is then immediately stored on thier dummy fob and they come back later and take it. My frind had a trackert company that alerted the police and when going to get his car back with £6k worth or wiring as they seeked to blow the car's tracker he was getting to the door and they locked it on him. The police and him looked at each other and were like, yep they have a real front. If you allow notifications on the Find My Phone on an iPhone (see online full processs) Apple made this so they could not be used against you. So an Air Tag works by working off other iPhone signals around it within 30ft to send a signal of its location. It's not a true GPS. However if you have your Find My iPhone set up correctly it alerts you to unidentified trackers that are travelling with you. It's works out they are noit paired with your phone and alert you.

People should be mindful of the fact that Faraday pouches and boxes are not forever, some pouches stop working after a month or so. I tested pouches that no longer worked, then decided on a box, in case sliding the fob in/out compromised the lining. My not cheap Faraday box was tested after 3 months to find it allowed me to start the car with the key in the box, despite careful use. There must be a plethora of people who would discover their Faraday box or pouch no longer works. Unlock the car, return the key to the pouch or box, get in the car and try to start it. I now use a Defender pouch and replace it every month regardless. £3 a month for peace of mind knowing the fob is protected from relay thieves. Nothing worse than believing your fob is protected from relay theft when it is not, and your car is not there one day.

I had my Range Rover stolen last year using the relay method I have just bought a new Range Rover and use the faraday box for my new key I’ve put the key I kept from my stolen Range Rover out of view near the front door so if they try again the signal from the old key will mess with their heads they will get a sign all but think their equipment is faulty. 😂

One more tip - use OBD port lock. This is the most important point which can prevent thieves access to OBD port to clone your fob.

My tip is really simple. Take out the the starter relay anytime you park the car at home or on the street. Anyone trying to steal it wouldn't think of checking the relay box for that

I think if you are going to have a car like this you need a garage, ask your insurance company if it will reduce the premium were you to garage the vehicle. Having a tracker is recommended and well worth the money. As with anything of value you need to think of the security element and cost. An isolation switch could be useful to have and if fitted properly might pay for itself. Keeping keys inside your home is something to look at, maybe a decorative safe built into the the wall and given a fake mains cover for example. The spare keys should be accessible but not in an obvious place, maybe with a neighbour you can trust. Technology can be bypassed so take that into consideration. A krooklock might be handy so the handbrake cannot be released without a key. Take professional advice and also ask the local police if they have any information to assist you.
@robertheinkel6225 Жыл бұрын
Insurance do ask where the vehicle is garaged, but they are asking what zip code you are parking it in. I was licensed in all 50 states, and none offered a discount for parking it in an actual garage. I suspect, this is due to the vehicle leaving that garage and being parked anywhere.

Also another simple tip , maybe a little more expensive... buy a new apple key tag and hide it in your vehicle yourself... you can track it anywhere in the world, but hopefully you won't need that.

Unfortunately my sisters car got stolen- I’m going to hide a apple tag in my car
@3litepker2 жыл бұрын
I own 3 cars and do it on all of them. Best part is finding the best hiding spot in the car for it. Sadly, the airtags give notifications to the persons phone telling them their location is being seen. Stupid feature apple has introduced because they don’t want them to be used to track people, rather, they want it to track items. Really contradictory because you’d want to track the thief with your item.
@spiritzen Жыл бұрын
Apple tags start beeping when they think its being used to track someone. A thief can then try and locate it by ear. I do have them in my cars though, useful to track where the wife goes.
@josenavarro12189 ай бұрын
The best anti-theft system is the IGLA, which requires to touch some switches in sequence once you enter the vehicle, otherwise the car will NOT start, even if the thieves have the key! The other method is to hide a cutoff switch to the fuel pump! Less expensive than an immobiliser systems!

is the keyless start signal separate to to the keyless entry signal? Otherwise, how is the car started if the key has been disabled?

Well I just figured a way around this after watching two videos on the subject. they ( thieves) will simply drive up next to you at a stop sign or down the road. get your info and wait until you run into a pub.

Instead of just stealing your car, you're making it where they need to steal your life as well by keeping the key close to your person.
@OH2023-cj9if Жыл бұрын
The cables that can be reached by cutting a hole in the rear bumper by the right light need re-routing. The power needs to be removed to the OBD2 port by taking the fuse out, or the socket relocated. Make a secondary tracker from an old phone and hide it in the car. Get the Automatrics system. Stop covering the camera lens with your hand as it blocks the view and is annoying to have to watch. Don't fit CCTV that can't see a face or detail, have both IR floodlights and bright LED flood lights. Fit lots of cameras at different angles and a system that beeps to let people know they are being monitored. Wheel locks and clamps are good to slow people down. Bollards work too. They slow people down.

Be aware. The "club" on the wheel can have the best lock in the world and they can still get it off! They don't defeat the lock or the metal, they saw through the steering wheel! The bad guys almost got my truck that way.

I disabled keyless entry on my Evoque. Caused the battery to go flat because for some reason it caused the rear number plate lights to stay on without me realising it. Had to call out Land Rover Assist twice. Re-enabled keyless entry and now OK. Know of same thing happening to another Evoque.

Cover the VIN on the dash. So it can't be read from outside the car. OBD lock.. or install dummy OBD port. Yes.... keep your vehicle keys away from car in a faraday box. Spare keys should be hidden and with batteries removed.

Thank you for your tips. :) Though all these are nice, I personally prefer a biometric fingerprint scanner inside the vehicle without which the car just does not start. It can also be paired with a hidden or disguised kill switch. As for keeping the vehicle safe when parked in a space near the house, my friends dad has installed a hydraulic rectractable security bollard which is controlled from inside the house. :)
@nobbydeano Жыл бұрын
determined thieves would just break into your house and chop your finger off to use on the scanner then torture you to tell them where the kill switch is
@BhaaskarDesai Жыл бұрын
@@nobbydeano LOL. Determination and will power is something that can break anything in this world or even outside it regardless of how fortified it is. We just make sure that whatever we wish to protect has a good security for our peace of mind. There is always someone out there who knows how to break certain things. :))

Transponder keyless entry is such a security issue that I'm surprised it's even legal for vehicles to have the feature, for the same reason why all vehicles must have an immobiliser. (At least that's a legal requirement in Australia.)

It's very simple to steal a range rover. All they do is cut a hole in the boot lid and cut a few wires in there that will open the car and turn of the alarm, then they rip up the plastic trim and drivers carpet to cut the immobiliser and start your car and drive off. Basically Range rovers are shit against theft. My brother's SVR got nicked, found both the trackers but no car. Luckily the car was found later on but the damage was quoted at over £30k.

Most faraday pouches are useless. To test, put the fob into a pouch and walk to your car. If the courtesy lights come on or the mirrors open outward, the pouch is useless, radio signal is getting out. I use an old mint tin can instead. Spare fob is in an old toffee tin.
@RazorStrap2 жыл бұрын
Tins can be problematic due to having a coating that prevents a good electrical connection between the container and the lid. Wrapping with aluminum foil can help. It is critical not to have any breaks in electrical conduction.

You did not mention Ghost Keys. Do you consider this a deterrent?
@guanyu210379 Жыл бұрын
Faraday cage puches do not last forever, keep this in mind. I have 2 of those pouches and the faraday cage function is working only like 18 months max. Make sure you check the function and buy new ones (replace em) from time to time. These pouches are cheap compared to your car.
@davekelly93452 жыл бұрын
ok (not an option for everyone) but wouldnt it be a good idea in your situation atleast 2 block the R/R in with the lesser value 2nd car ? then they would have 2 break in2 that 2 move that 1st ! and yes I am aware that of course they can probably do this ! but isnt all car crime prevention just a case of making your car more of a pain in the a@'@ 2 take rather than the blokes down the road ?

Rolling Codes prevents this (codes used only once), but some reports say that some (bad implementations?) have been cracked (can be predicted, extrapolated).
@OH2023-cj9if11 ай бұрын
You will not be able to use your spare key if a range rover is stolen. The module in the boot is simply replaced for a new one with new keys. Your keys are no longer programmed to it. When you send your keys back to your insurer, they interrogate them for info. The key stores the last known GPS, all the settings and previous journey details and speed, weather etc. This is how so many were caught out faking thefts of cars they couldn't afford on finance.

Good tips. Security is always a compromise between strength and convenience. The stronger the security the less convenient it is to use it. I solve the problem of car theft by welding all the doors shut and removing the engine. It's not convenient but the car's never been stolen... 😂
