My Truck was stolen. This could stop it from happening to you.
Yes it's true. While I was sleeping, my new truck was stolen right out of my driveway. I'll tell you what happened, how it happened and how I could have stopped it with this simple, inexpensive product. I waited for more than 6 months to do this video, so I could test the performance of the product first. I hope this is helpful for you and your family. All the best!
Product: Wisdom Pro RFID Key FOB Protector.

NOTE: This product works for me. I don't make any representations or warranty that it will work for you. I offer no guarantee as to the performance of this product. I received no financial compensation for the creation of this video. It is NOT a sponsored video. It is intended for entertainment purposes only.

Unless maybe they had worked on a farm or had a classic car, a clutch is totally foreign to them. I had a manual gas tank valve with a shut off under the driver's seat. THAT THING WORKED GREAT! Especially back when everyone who drove needed to know how to work a clutch so as not to look like an idiot. If the vehicle didn't start they would start looking around for a kill switch, but running out of gas, right in the middle of the road, within effective rifle range of my house? Abort! Abort! Run away! The cops might stop, or I might be walking out with a .223 Remington AR-15 or a Mini 14 and a .357 Remington Mag S&W Model 27 to go find my truck. If I could see it from the house, and anyone was around it, .338 Win mag or .300 Win Mag reaches out a couple or three blocks VERY EASILY, with fantastic results, especially that .338 grizzly bear gun.

I was a radio communications technician in the US Air Force. When he mentioned that the key sends out a radio frequency constantly and thieves scan the neighborhood for that key frequency, all you have to do is use an RF (Radio Frequency) shield to cover the key. Save yourself $$$ and use a DIY Reynolds Aluminum foil to cover your key. Since the Aluminum is a conductor of electricity, it forms a barrier often called a Faraday Cage, entirely stopping the key radio wave from being transmitted in the airwaves for thieves to steal the frequency and your car from picking up the signal. That black pouch he's holding probably has an aluminum foil or some RF shield sandwiched inside the material. To make your car even more thief proof, get a manual clutch.

Well done. Thanks. It is distressing to have a car stolen; I had a new Jeep CJ5 stolen in 1974; it was located in a swamp one day BEFORE it would have been declared a total loss. The insurance company refused to do so and refused to authorize procedures recommended by the dealer. I have been told NOT to use the fob to lock my car when in a parking lot but to manually depress the lock button as I exit because thieves sit in their cars with scanners. My truck is an 07 so the fob doesn't continuously broadcast a signal. Given this problem, I'm surprised lawyers haven't filed class action lawsuits against auto manufacturers for negligence.

I make semiconductors for those key fobs. The fob does not send a beacon 24/7, that is not how it works. That would drain the fob battery. Instead, your fob is receiving signals, it is listening 24/7. Only when it picks up your car does it send a signal back. The black box used to steal a car amplifies the car signal to the house and relays it back to the car. It’s a bit more complicated than that but wanted you to know the fob is not sending a beacon out. It only “handshakes” after it receives the correct code. Receiving takes little power and the fob battery lasts a long time.

Update. The criminals can get into your vehicle by picking the key lock if you have a key lock, or they can connect to the headlight, or they can break a window. Once inside the vehicle, they can plug their key programmer into the OBD port and program a blank key bob in less than two minutes. They start you vehicle and drive away with their newly programmed key fob. You need the IGLA system to add a keypass code requirement to start the vehicle. The IGLA device also blocks key programmers. You also need to add an alarm such as the Compustar system. Factory alarms are easily bypassed. GPS tracking is also a good idea, or at least hidden AirTags with the AirTag speaker disabled to make it much more difficult for the criminals to find the AirTags. Install more than one AirTag. After you start the vehicle, can you put the key fob back in the faraday pouch right away, while driving the vehicle? Or, do you need to leave the key fob outside the faraday pouch continuously while the vehicle is running? The faraday pouch reduces your exposure to auto theft, but it doesn’t eliminate it because you have to expose the key fob to open the door and start the vehicle for a reduced time period. To reduce the risk of auto theft lower, I think some type of aftermarket kill switch might be a good idea. The auto manufacturers know about this vulnerability to auto theft, and do not attempt to redesign the system. The auto manufacturers should be sued with a class action lawsuit and/or sued by the insurance companies.

@daveborchard2019
@daveborchard2019 6 ай бұрын
The auto theft taps into the data line that runs to the headlights. They have a device that looks like a USB speaker, but is really a auto theft tool. That supposedly could give them cover from the police if possessing burglary tools is a crime. The thefts could break the rear windows, which I’ve heard are not covered by the factory alarms. If there is a neutral strap, they that could put the car into neutral and push the vehicle away for a distance with another vehicle. Auto thefts also use a key fob retransmission device. It picks up the key fob signal that’s transmitted continuously from the key fob inside your house to the vehicle on your driveway, or nearby where the key fob is located. The vehicle then can be unlocked and started, just like the key fob could be used if the criminal had the key fob. The vehicle allows cage criminal to drive away, even though there’s no key fob in the vehicle. The auto thieves also that key fob programmers. They remove your fob from the vehicle’s configuration and program a blank key fob for your vehicle. The auto thieves are greatly assisted by the poor security of the key fob passive entry push button start system. But the auto manufacturers do not care if your vehicle is stolen, because that translates to more auto sales for the vehicle manufacturers. The solution to the auto theft problem is the IGLA PIN code system. The IGLA PIN code system requires you to press a sequence of buttons on your steering wheel and other buttons in your vehicle, to be able to start the vehicle. Think of it like a combination lock to start the vehicle. If the criminal doesn’t know the combination needs to be pressed, or doesn’t know the combination, the vehicle cannot be started. The IGLA PIN code device also blocks the key fob programmers from functioning. In addition to the IGLA PIN code system, a Compustar Drone alarm system is installed. The alarm system makes a lot of noise and draws attention to the criminal, and discourages the active crime scene from continuing. The alarm system also alerts the owner’s cellphone that the criminal is breaking into the vehicle. The criminal wants an easy target, and does not want to be potentially shot and killed by the vehicle’s owner. The downside for the protection is the cost. The IGLA PIN code system costs $1,200 for installation. The IGLA PIN code system, plus the Compustar Drone alarm system installation costs about $2,000. Plus about $200 a year to subscribe to the alarm system notification service. The kill switches can be circumvented by auto thieves, if they are talented enough in their criminal occupation. The IGLA PIN code and Compustar Drone alarm system is the best way to prevent the vehicle theft. Supposedly, there are about 600,000 installed IGLA PIN code systems installed, and none of those vehicles have been stolen.

Never use the fob.. take the batteries out and forget about it.. use the admin key the old school way.. lock and unlock physically, if you want extra security if you're not feeling safe at night then disconnect the battery before you go in to the house, or better yet even if it is annoying take it out completely and store it in the house.. put a gps tracker hidden somewhere inside the car, the ones with a sim card in it, when you call the number it doesn't ring or make any noise and it gives you the exact location of your car and when it answers it enables audio so you can listen to what's going on around your vehicle.. ✌️

And isn’t it ironic that the purpose of designing a sleeker, slimmer solution to the old car key we were all used to now means one has to carry the device in a large, bulky bag and remove it before it will work. Yeah, it is a bit of a pain to use a faraday pouch. I bought one similar to the one he has but ended up not using it as it was too bulky and frankly a pain to take the fob it in and out of the pouch. There is a way to disable the feature allowing RF signals to open the door and force you to push the open button on the key fob like in the old days, but it won't stop thieves from starting the car with a push button. They will often configure a new key fob by connecting a device to the ODB2 port. Therefore you should get a ODB2 port lock preventing this. I installed that.

"All car dealerships should throw these fob protectors at no additional cost." That was my thought exactly--he paid for a top-of-the-line package, and the dealer and/or manufacturer can't be bothered to throw in a $10 Faraday pouch? (Especially when it would cost them far less purchasing in bulk.) At the very least they should proactively notify buyers of this risk, instead of pretending it doesn't exist and just hoping their customer doesn't learn the hard way as OP did. And since the manufacturers already knew about it, why aren't the key fobs themselves designed with a built-in kill switch to deactivate the constant pinging?

I realize this video is older but just a slight point of clarification - thieves aren't "copying" the fob. They are simply boosting an existing fob's live signal. Typically this is done by two thieves working in coordination with a pair of specialized RF tools; one with an RF transmitter that stays near the target vehicle while an accomplice walks about with a receiving device picking up any live fob signals. It passes all received signals back to the transmitter which instantly rebroadcasts them. Once the right fob is found, the car thinks its real fob is nearby and opens / starts. Once the car is stolen and properly secured, an unscrupulous technician can use dealer-level tools to "re-key" the car with a brand new fob. The suggested defenses are all sound however. Disabling fob transmit (check your owner's manual), or storing them in metal boxes or bags will prevent this kind of replay attack.

From what I remember the fob generate constantly a special validation code that have to be accepted by the car (crypto key pairs, one for coding one for decoding), depending on the algorithm the total number of codes can have the system last between decades and centuries before running out of combinations. But each code is valid only once to start or open the car. So while live amplification works, remote duplication of fobs is not a good protocol…

@@zoezzzarko1117 I wouldn't think so. It only takes a $4 switch and a few feet of wire although you could get creative with the job (image the tanker truck start sequence from Fury Road) . My guess is you would be charged about an hour labor. If you are going to have it done go to a place does car stereo's and alarm installs (not Best Buy). A traditional mechanic could do it but audio / alarm guys know how to be creative in that realm. For an example of simple creativity I added a fuel pump cutoff to my friends street legal track car. I noticed a location on his dash that was plugged but was for a feature that was only available on the deluxe package for his car, I think it might have been fog lights. What I did was I had him purchase a fog light switch from the dealership and used that. That way the switch was easily accessible, blended right in, and he didn't have a "mystery button" under his dashboard.

@@zoezzzarko1117 No you can buy a toggle switch for 99 cent's. A mechanic can tie it into the alternator where the car wont start period, or the fuel pump. Read you owners manual, my Toyote Corolla key fob has a sleep mode you can place it in with a certain button combination (For mine it is hold down lock and double press unlock) so that it does not transmit. No need for foil or a pouch. This is useful for when you want to lock your key fob in the car like going swimming at the beach. and then use the removable mechanical key that is not damaged by water to unlock the door when you get back.

These button combinations are easily obtainable by the bad guys as well as the owners.

@@jameskoralewski1006 well ok but they'd have to break into the car and Know that your key was there, isn't the purpose to just stop the transmitting feature??

Just a few notes: you can turn off your fob with a simple key combination and you should put an air tag hidden with disabled speaker in your car.

What a huge security oversight. Thanks for the video. I would add a fuel shutoff switch and battery disconnect as well if you wanted to be extra secure.
@KStewart-th4sk

The crappy part about a battery disconnect----the engine computer is going to lose all it's parameters for the engine running at maximum efficiency. That's why there are devices made to plug in to provide computer voltage if you ever have to replace the vehicle's battery. Fuel or ignition disable switch would be the best option in my opinion.

The fuel shut off works really well with an older car that has mechanical fuel pump and carburator. It will start but run out of gas. The car won't be very far away.
