5 Top Warnings Signs Of Bed Bugs In Your House
We all wish to sleep tight and not let the bed bugs bite, so in this post, we cover the top warning signs for bed bugs in your house so you can take action before it’s too late.
Itchy bumps develop from bed bug bites
This isn’t always the first sign you might notice, but it is a pretty clear warning sign for bed bugs in your home. Bed bugs suck blood and when they do that on humans, it can end up leaving itchy, red, bumpy bite marks.
Unfortunately, it may take time for these bite marks to develop because when bed bugs feed on humans, they also inject an anesthetic which numbs the pain associated with their feeding. People can react differently to this. In some cases, people experience dramatic itching and red bumps all over their body, while other people don’t react to the bites at all.
Blood stains from bed bug bites and bite wounds
Blood stains on your bedding, bed, and even pillow cases can be another big warning sign for bed bugs in your house. Since they feed on blood, some blood from the bite or from squished bugs may end up getting on your bed during the feeding process.
In addition to blood stains coming from feasting bed bugs, there can also be blood stains from prior wounds from bed bug bites. Often, bed bug bite wounds can become very itchy, so through scratching or just rubbing the wounds on your bed, they can start to bleed.
This can cause blood stains as well from open sores caused by bed bug bites. Typically blood stains alone isn’t always a solid warning sign by itself, but when combined with the other warning signs for bed bugs, it should lead you to seek out a treatment for bed bugs.
Feces and crushed bugs stains
While bed bugs can sometimes go for weeks and even months without a blood meal, they defecate often during feeding times and can cause a lot of fecal stains on your furniture and bedding. Since their diet consists of blood, their feces and fecal stains tend to be a reddish brown color.
Bed bugs usually come out at night and then go into hiding in cracks and crevices around beds and furniture when they aren’t feeding. These hiding spots and seams, cracks, and crevices of your bed and furniture is the first place you should look for feces stains from bed bugs. Don’t forget to look up as well when inspecting. In many cases, bugs will squeeze between the wall and ceiling squeezing out little fecal marks as they go.
As you roll around in your sleep, you may sometimes crush bed bugs as well causing stains from that as well. You may notice blood from a full bug or just the crushed bug.
Eggs, egg shells, and skin casings
Bed bugs also go through multiple stages of development throughout their life span. This can happen 5 different times following a blood meal.
When bed bugs go through their next development stage (called instars), they shed their skin and leave hollow casings behind. You’ll want to look for these cast skins in a variety of areas typically around your bedding as well as potentially near feces and blood stains as well.
Another warning sign of bed bugs in your house is finding their eggs or egg casings. These unfortunately can be very hard to spot as most bed bug eggs are only about a millimeter in length, but if found, they can be a clear warning sign of bed bugs.
A Funky smell is another warning sign of bed bugs in your house
The last major warning sign you have bed bugs in your house is that you’ll start to smell them. Imagine you left an old wet sweaty towel laying around in your bedroom, that’s the sort of smell you’ll find coming from a bed bug infestation.
This smell may start off mild, but the more the bed bug population increases, the more intense the smell will become. As bed bugs release pheromones in the room they are infesting, it can start to smell like a dirty gym locker room.
Pay attention and be on the look out for these top warning signs for bed bugs to keep them out of your home and to get rid of them quickly before it’s too late. Bed bugs are extremely hardy and many over-the-counter pest control products have little to no effect.
We recommend if you are experiencing any of the above warning signs for bed bugs to reach out to a pest control service like us at Rove Pest Control, to have your home inspected and treated for bed bugs.

Bedbug eggs have a glue like substance that sticks to couch’s, luggage, pants, shoes, etc. Ppl can even bring them in from movie theaters. Bed bugs were eradicated in the 40’s. Then when foreign travel happened more frequently in the 90’s from China and India, they came back. China also brought the tiger mosquito, which is outdoors day and night, as opposed to just night time. They have a slight tiger look, easy recognizable.

I’ve inspected all our mattresses and the furniture I can. I don’t see any signs of bed bugs. But when I look to the carpet, I see them literally hiding between the little strands & cracks. I’ve found over 5 of them scattered around the carpet all over my apartment. My daughter & I have been getting red bumps on our legs. I am scared & can’t sleep knowing they’re crawling around & leeching off of us 😭😭

Steam clean your carpet. Has to be very hot type of steamer not tap water . Also D.E - Dienatious Earth works. Sprinkle on carpet leave for 4 - 24 hrs and vacuum. It is safe to use on garden plants BUT DANGEROUS if Inhaled. Wear a mask when you apply leave then keep mask on and open windows when you vacuum Best vacuum is wet dry vac cause the powder is so fine it can clog a regular vacuum and will overheat and ruin your vacuum. Pets have to go too during the application etc.

Where do these damn bedbugs hide? I'm getting strange bite marks for the past 18 months (on and off) Fast forward to the most recent 7 months: 4 visits from the exterminator to look for signs of bedbugs, one visit from a bed bug sniffing dog, 5 vet visits for the vet to check my cat for fleas, night after night of flipping my furniture over to check for bedbugs, multiple carpert cleanings, multiple times peeling back the carpet to check underneath, all new furniture, bedbug interceptors under the legs of my bed. My new couch is nearly destroyed from me tearing it apart night after night - and the search goes on and on! *Still* not a single bedbug, flea or mosquitoe can be found by either myself, or the professionals! My landlord thinks I'm nuts - but the bite marks still persist! Oh yeah, one more thing, multiple visits to my doctor. My doctor says they look like bug bites. I'm at the end of my rope!

I believe it is necessary and proper to have an update of my complaint about the heat treatment NOT working for my "infestation." It has taken me months to figure out what was actually happening. I DID NOT HAVE BED BUGS. At first, I thought they were, because of the "obvious" bite marks I had over my body and extremities. (My wife was never "bitten." ) They happened almost every night. Because I was a doctor, I spent months looking online for a "copy" of my bite mark pictures. I finally found it. It is called "Schaumberg's Disease." The "bites" are caused by tiny rupturing capillaries next to my skin, that looked like two little dots next to each other. They appeared almost every night! I went to several dermatologists. One thought it was eczema and recommended daily lotion applications. I suppose the exterminators should have told me that the bugs were actually tiny "Darkling beetles" that live all over the desert. They do NOT feed on or bite humans. But they look a bit like BB's. But they are not. After all, I TOLD the exterminators I was getting bitten. I don't blame them. I am quite old and varicosities and failure of capillaries look JUST LIKE bed bug bites. I am now treating my Schaumberg's disease and seeing a definite improvement. My advice to those who have BB's: Collect samples and send them to your state entomologist. Ours did NOT charge us for his opinion. I believe he is entirely correct. They are NOT bed bugs, but darkling beetles. I still see them. It is probably impossible to get rid of them, but they do NOT bite. They eat plant matter and other bugs. There is NO reason to hire an exterminator if you have darkling beetles. They are harmless. Just collect them up and throw them away. Thanks for your understanding. I apologize deeply for my mistake. I hope you can learn from it. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA) .

@@RovePestControl Thanks for your kind note. I may be able to help others some more. If you think you have BB’s, you need to be sure. This means collecting samples and bringing them to a local garden supplies store for proper ID. If you have them, but cannot afford a professional exterminator, some people are successful at doing it themselves. It’s a LOT of hard work. But can be done. There are a lot of websites that can advise you. There’s several new approaches: Aprehend biological spray applications. And a new one: Taking the medication Ivermectin every 3 days to “poison” the BB’s by making your blood toxic to them. You have to drive to MX to get the medication. IT IS NOT A NARCOTIC! It is NOT ILLEGAL to posses it. Both methods require you ALLOW yourself to be bitten. Heat treatment by an exterminator do not. I did not actually have BB’s I was “fooled” by a vascular disease. Know someone who had them. They had a brand new mattress. They kept waking up to something that felt like a bug crawling on them with itchy red bumps but couldn't find any bugs. Finally they found possibly what could have been a bug. They took a picture of it. They went to their apt manager and showed them. They said the manager took a picture of the picture they had. The manager hit several buttons while taking the pic when they were done they enlarged it and said see its not a bedbug. It did not look like the pic they took from their camera. The itching continued. The sprayed rubbing alcohol at night on their bed and the itching stopped instantly. The problem is rubbing alcohol does not kill the eggs. My friend began to find white egg like things that were shaped smooth and other times not so smooth but always white. One day she was making the bed and she seen a bug. She got a small plastic bag and put it there. A exterminater came told her in was a adult bedbug. The manager told her the exterminator told them that it could have been a coachroach. She took it to another exterminator and they confirmed it was a bedbug.

Bed bugs have a preference of blood type. The first type they feed on becomes what they crave. I once stayed with my girls friend and was the only one getting bites and found out my sister was the previous tenant that lived there when the Infestation started and we are the same blood type. The girl had lived there for months without any bites but my first night I got 20 plus bites. They can go months without feeding and won't bite outside preference till necessary for survival. They are by far the worst bug to have for us that get bit by them......

We had a 3,000 dollar heat treatment 3 months ago. I am still being bitten almost every night. (little dots of bite wounds) I cover myself with pajamas every night, plastic bags on my arms and legs, spray the bags with alcohol, and I still get bitten. I find bed bugs the most effective predator. It is REMARKABLE how they find a way to get underneath my night clothing! It is starting to get hot again. I don’t know if I can continue to try to wear this “protective” clothing, which only works to some extent. I will get another 3,000 dollar heat treatment after Mother’s Day holiday after we visit our daughter. Fortunately I can afford this. But I still don’t expect it to work. This has a psychological component. I think it can lead to chronic depression. We live in a beautiful home. Even if we move, I anticipate that they will “follow” me. They do not feed on my wife, only me. I am a retired surgeon. I take 100 mgms Gabapentin to help me sleep. It seems to help. God bless and good luck! Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)

Hi, ROVE, tell me what you think of using Diatomaceaus Earth (food grade) to gradually kill them?.....
@RovePestControl
@RovePestControl 10 ай бұрын
Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a natural and non-toxic substance that can be used for pest control, including combating bed bugs. Just be prepared to be patient. Diatomaceous earth works by dehydrating and ultimately killing bed bugs and other insects by damaging their exoskeleton. This process can take several days to a week or more, depending on the severity of the infestation.

Some people don’t have a reaction to the bite. I do unfortunately and my husband doesn’t. The first night I was bit I told him. We have bed bugs. He didn’t believe me for MONTHS. Even after showing him 3 different bugs on three different occasions he just kept saying if we have them then I would get bit too. Those aren’t bed bugs I know the bites one two three breakfast lunch and dinner. I know what they look like. We could have caught them early but he’s a man and thinks he’s always right. But I got rid of them. We still don’t know for sure how we got them no one ever comes over. I think we got them from our neighbors next door he’s been in their house and car so that might be it.

If you're experiencing persistent itching in your bed but haven't found any bed bugs, it's possible that there could be another underlying cause.
