Two of my favourite singers in there- Lou Rawls and Scott Walker. Montague Terrace in Blue is a fantastic song. I’d not really heard of Willie Hutch until I discovered your channel and I agree Soul Portrait is such a good album. Great choices there Mr Danger! Cheers! 🙏

Hey, thanks Andy. Yeah, Scott Walker needs to be better known in North America. Those 4 60s LPs are incredible, really. 😁

Yes!!! WINGS remains one of my all time favorite tracks! If I could return with THAT AMAZING VOICE- that first lp reminds me of a male Judy Collins. Gosh, I just so love this album with every track being wonderful. Thank you for giving this the importance it deserves. Hugs

Some wonderful choices and items to investigate that I was not aware of. How about these: 1) Quicksilver Messenger Service - self titled debut and 2) Country Joe and The Fish - Electric Music For the Mind and Body.

Ooh. I always appreciate fine suggestions. I have not heard the Country Joe LP, but the Quicksilver one is a winner!

Yes, good to see Tim Buckley's first album here. I bought it after getting Goodbye and Hello and while it wasnt as good there were some great songs, especially Wings

Great album but i'd go with The Doors' eponymous debut: break on through..., soul kitchen, the crystal ship, twntieth century fox, alabama song (whisky bar), light my fire, back doot man, the end

Alan Wilson was called "Blind Owl", because he kept his eyes closed, not because he wore glasses. He'd stand up and sing his songs, his eyes screwed shut the entire time (watch the outtakes from Woodstock). A talented musician, but a tortured performer. Scott Walker (real name: Noel Scott Engel) was a low-rent Tom Jones, without the sexiness, stage presence, or deep, soulful crooning. I have all four albums, too, never listen to them. I loved the Walker Brothers 1966 hits, The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore, and Make It East on Yourself, but that would be the sum of their contributions, two singles. The members, Americans who traveled to Britain seeking fame as part of (the end of) the "British" Invasion. Engel's first solo LP, Scott, reached #3 in the UK, but quickly sank from sight in the US. Willlie Hutch released 11 albums in the 'Seventies, and another 4 between 1985 and 2002, for a total of 16 LPs, not bad, for an "undiscovered" artist. Two of his albums were soundtracks for blaxploitation films in the early '70s, The Mack, and Foxy Brown. Two of his albums hit the Top 20, 3 rose into the Top 30, pretty respectable numbers. I don't think he was "overlooked" so much as he found a niche, like many second-tier artists, and worked it. He wrote I'll Be There, the Jackson 5's 4th #1 hit, in a row, in 1970. He had a respectable career.

Fun. I knew about the Tim Buckley and Canned Heat disks, and about Scott Walker and the Walker Bros. hits, and I have The Very Best of Lou Rawls, which frankly I haven't listened to much (maybe I'll double-back), but Willie Hutch comes right out of left field for me. I'll have to check it out. Hey thanks. Learned a bunch. Keep it up.

I just found an interview with Scott Walker BBC 2 to coincide with the release of his first album in 10 years Tilt. Two interviews together also 10 years later. A few days after Scott’s girlfriend played for him Jacques Brel ( the first time he heard Jacques). Call it Karma or fate but Scott went to see his friend Rolling Sones Manager Andrew Olden asked him if he had ever heard Jacques Brel. By coincidence someone had just sent Olden the English translation s of many Brel songs. Scott asked Olden if anybody had plans to record it. No. So Scott said one week later he was in the studio recording Matilde and the other songs for Scott1. That was the Genesis of that first solo album!!! I made a mistake Scott/3 had all the songs in 3/4 ths time. To combine parts from both interviews Scott” was going with a German Girl who did work at the London Playboy kept a bottle of Pernod or Pernot under her bed. They got drunk Scott listened to Brel for the first time. and that’s how his fascination with Brel Began. Changed the course of Scott’s life and career.1994 Tilt interview and 2004 forgot the name of that last album

I'm pleasantly surprised to see the comments about Tim Buckley. From what I know, his debut is not too highly rated. However, it's one of my favourite Buckley albums. His vocal range was truly impressive.

The Walker Brothers version of “Make it easy on yourself “ Knocked The Rolling Stones Satisfaction”Out of The top spot of the British Charts and stayed there for 5 weeks. Scott’s girlfriend worked at the Playboy Club London and played Jacques Brel for him and he was hooked for life. John MaUs Walker was a great guitarist very bluesy and was performing up until his death in 2011 from liver disease. Scott became a British Citizen around 1970 and became very reclusive. The Walker Brothers reunited around 1973 and had a hit with no regrets. In Britain. They owed Phillips Records one more album that 1978 Album Nite Flights had a huge effect on Talking Heads,And Roxy Music. David Bowie loved it so much that he covered two songs from it including Night Flights. Scott died in England in 2019 he was 76. Glenn is still alive. And The Son ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore also went no 1 in Great Britain But about # 6 In USA. Scott 1-2-3 all sold great in the UK but #4 tanked. Scott said later because all the songs were in 3-4 time. Scott’s later albums became much more Avant-garde. Almost bizarre.
