7:48 Forgot to mention Greece signed a 2021 mutual defense pact with France that exists outside of NATO. Article five would not really kick in if Turkey and Greece start fighting because both are NATO members. The deal with France though, that is separate. It would immediately escalate a conflict over the Agean by bringing in a nuclear armed regional power into the mix. Probably a good idea for Paris to have entered into this deal with Athens though. Turkey has a larger population, military and economy than Greece. This advantage can lead to aggressiveness and miscalculation that can result in war. The deal with France can be a deterrent that stops this conflict before it flares up.

Have you heard of a guy named Luigi Lucheni? Probably not. Back in 1898 he assassinated Franz Joseph's wife Elizabeth. Even though he was later hagned, today he regarded as a hero of Italian people. His actions didn't spark a war because Austria probably wasn't convinced that she could beat newely unified Italy. Oppose that to Princip's case, where you have a small country with maybe few million people whom Austria resented for years and tried to occupy/colonize it for years. There were many times when Austria tried to provoke Serbia into escalating-occupation of Bosnia, which was very much inhabited by Serbs, discrimanation againts Serbs throughout Austria, ordering Serbs to step away from Adriatic sea during the First Balkan war, creating Albania on those territories,...Make no mistake, Franz Ferdinand's assassination wasn't a cause, it was an excuse for war, the war that Austria wanted and the war that they thought they would win.

In a world where superpowers can invade and bully smaller countries, without consequences, it makes sense for the Turks to try to do the same, without much to lose. Keep in mind Turkey has made military campaigns in Syria, Iraq, Armenia and Cyprus, without any problems. A couple of years ago the even bombed civilians in Iraq and nothing was done about it.
@jezreall7837
@jezreall7837 Жыл бұрын
first of all, history is variable, and at that time Anatolia had its own local people and Armenians, whereas the Greeks did not. The Romans are carrying out the first genocide against Armenians in history, and the Armenians are moving from the Mediterranean to the north of the Caucasus. thousands of years later, the Turks are entering Anatolia. The invasion of Anatolia by the Oghuz Turks took place in 1071, but between 1020 and 1070, with the arrival of the pre-turks, Anatolia begins to be turkified, the Turkmens driven out by the Oghuz Turks came to Anatolia with a slight migration. The Armenian genocide is real, but there is no such thing as the Greek genocide. according to the agreement signed with the population exchange, the Christian Turkish and Greek communities are going to Greece, and the Turks in Greece are going to Turkey. also, if you are not objective in history and continue to study history with the classic stupid western understanding, you will be wasting your brain.

@@talha6852 That is false. The Turks originated in Central Asia and started settling in Anatolia/Modern Turkey in the 11th century AD when the Eastern Romans were still around. For most of history, Asia Minor had no Turkish peoples. As for the Greeks "being colonial communities" as you say, well that is only true during the Classical age in ancient times. During the Roman Empire and the Byzantine/Eastern Roman Empire, these areas were majority Greek as the Eastern half of the Roman empire was the Greek half of the empire and outlasted the Western half by a thousand years. As a Greek I have to admit that I feel strange being in the spotlight like this. What is more concerning is the fact that Greece has a clear alliance with one part of each potential conflict you mention. Alas, my country will forever be in the middle of some dispute, but like Israel, we will persevere. Thank you fore the great video as always.

Thanks for the heads-up: I've added a number of countries to my list of "where not to visit". It is incredible that in an age of a proclaimed "climate emergency", countries are still vying for oil deposits to dig up to be burnt. People never learn. What's the point of establishing a colony on another planet? No oil anywhere there perhaps but not much of anything else either.

We currently have the technology and materials available to go fully renewable. Lithium iron phosphate batteries all use very abundant minerals in the earth (no cobalt). It would cost the equivalent of 5 years worth of worldwide fossil fuel subsidies to completely transition. I'm only saying this because lots of people think it isn't possible, mostly because of very antiquated studies or propaganda

Great video. You missed one though The Wagner group hold, over many key mineral sites in Africa, could easily ignite a major war in a variety of ways. In fact, to a degree the whole proliferation of " mercenary" groups from both the US and Russia, could very well lead to the next major war. Even more probable than many of these scenarios that are somewhat constrained by traditional politics.

🙏 thank-you Simon and co.! I have been desiring to understand all this. At first, I began to think, we are all so proud of our external accomplishments, and yet the quality of us/mankind has not improved much has it? There will always be this divide between elites and common people and the only happy story we will be able to find are in the escapism of fantasy books or TV dramas if we cannot find it within our own. I mean that's the goal right? To become heroes of our own stories. But then it hit me. We've got it backwards. We are the foundation, the ingredients, the metal. As we scrape and bump up against eachother, we are starting to be refined. The only fights we have are the ones they give us. And what happens to the metals of a refining pot? The impurities rise. I've been wondering why it seems like the people have outgrown the government! It's because it's time to skim the top! Remove the impurities so they don't come rolling back down on us.

And most recently a turkish and greek coast guard boat faced off and Greek sailors fired warning shots at them with their HK rifles, and prepared to fire on them. This is of course, because of Turkish incursion and trying to instigate a fight. Eventually, push will come to shove. We have the backing of France, and Israel. Interesting, some scenarios I never would've thought of and glad you didn't jump to the obvious one of Taiwan but kind of surprised you didn't mention Armenia-Azerbaijan. Specifically if there is some type of ethnic cleansing or even full scale invasion of Armenia. Azerbaijan has the backing of Turkey and Armenia has Iran, perhaps in a situation like this the two get into a proxy war, the two already have beef. It could stop "just" there but with Saudi Arabia always involved with its proxy conflicts and the number of groups in the region could maybe become something real ugly.

If not the usual spots like taiwan, pakistan/india, iran etc. Then my money is on Australia since Australia is becoming more prominent on the global stage. Now Australia is pivoting towards the US (with at one point it being unclear if Australia would side with China or the US in the event of a war) and is pissing China off majorly with trade wars ongoing. Australia is also a major exporter of raw materials like iron ore, uranium, coal, LNG, copper, Grain etc. Lithium exports are also super important. On top of all of this, Australia is in a REALLY strategic position in the world, with it being a major hub in the pacific, and very strategically important for naval and air operations.

At 2:55 the Egyptian president is wrongly shown as Pranab Mukherjee. Pranab Mukherjee was the Indian president at the time. I'm guessing the error was made due to India being a Non Aligned Movement (NAM) country, just like Egypt. In any case, India is a parliamentary democracy and the president is only a nominal head, certainly incapable of directing foreign policy. The Egyptian president in the picture is the quasi dictator El sisi who seized power in a military coup I believe but I could be wrong
