Hi I am a mechanic who started working in Kenya in late 80s to Early 2000 before moving to Dubai in 2003. One knowledge that was a great breakthrough to me is understanding the use of a Component called Thermostat in the cooling system and its relation to the way the ECU works. In Kenya mechanics remove the thermostat and Throw it away instead of replacing it with a new one, they also use water instead of coolant. Those two things alone opens a can of worms in any car. Those with GDI engines it's even worse. Once the THERMOSTAT has been removed the engine will not reach the normal operating temperature fast, low temperature trigers the computer to sense that the engine needs to warm up fast and so it sends a message to the injectors to put more fuel in the engine, in the meantime the engine remains cold and therefore it does not burn all that fuel which then turns into carbon, fails the combustion Chambers and prevents the plugs from firing. Cold cylinders allow fuel to leak into the crankcase through the rings ruining the lubricating quality of the engine oil. All these happen quite fast. ....TBC

And the way I had my thermostat removed. I should buy another one immediately.
@djkelvin2542 жыл бұрын
my dad had his thermostat removed then instead connected the fan direct such that when he starts up the engine whether cold or hot the fan is always rotating , the bad part is that the car sometimes loses power and when the mechanic checks he always finds carbon in the plugs besides dad always complaining that his car is consuming more fuel
i disagree that Nissan KG11 dashboard blistering is a very minor issue on a very small part of the dashboard, maybe only 5% on the right side of the steering wheel.

However I have noted you rarely ever find Nissan Salon cars in a garage. Grant it I maybe more biased as a long time owner though. Major issue about that model is the clearance. Nissan serena shida ni not knowing how to maintain the cvt trans,most guys just flush the fluid bila using bi-directional obd for commanding some solenoids to release fluid so they end up doing half flush. Also these trans are either overfilled or under filled in most cases so leading up to overheating,the cvt whine is caused by the cvt fluid pump overheating. When you flush the fluid also change the filter,iko chini below the battery ukishatoa the beehive cooler,ikipata uchafu some particles get into the fluid hence lubrication becomes a problem. I recommend using Wolver Cvt Fluid 4 litres but usieke yote usually around 3.8 litres is enough.For the engine kama ina overheat check the coolant temperature sensor hizi huspoil sana kwa hizi gari na hufanya fan ya radiator kukosa kudo na ni very inexpensive.Thermostat pia hukua noma so also check kama inaachilia coolant into the engine.

Nothing wrong with the Nissan MR20 engine, its pretty reliable if you take care of it. The main weakness with Nissans is always the CVT transmission. Buying another gearbox in Industrial area will cost less than 100k. The difference between the price of a Nissan and Toyota (eg Serena @950k and Noah @1.55M) is alot of money. I still think Nissans make sense especially if you can find one at a good price.

Navara has even worse problem - it's chassis rails are made of thin metal, so they can't withstand frequent max payload, especially on poorly maintained road. Also, these rails tend to rust from inside out...

Do you not have facilities in Nairobi that offer walnut blasting for GDI engines with carbon buildup?
@teddymazuri3 жыл бұрын
To remedy the carbon build up in engines, theres a gentleman who offers hydrogen decarbonisation services in nairobi.

Or you can buy fuel addictive cleaner every once in a while when fueling
@teddymazuri3 жыл бұрын
@@rk-pz3rm decarbonisation returns your engine to basically factory as it gets rid of all carbon build up. that should guarantee your engine another 50,000km and more easy. That means the power it had from the lot, better fuel economy and lower emissions.

Am not an expert of cars. Although I have some knowledge about the engine because I had an overheating matutu back in 2012/2013. It gave me experience. What I know is that never buy any small vehicle of Nissan brand. For instance probox is 300k more expensive than Nissan Advan. I realized that the later overheats with a distance of 200kms even if it is a new car.

I knew you were legit the minute you spoke about the Serena. I've seen new ones( a lot of KCZ ) with exactly what you described.
