With the advent of ver. 1.20, you can now replace the brewing stand with the new chiseled bookshelves to filter out any kind of books. I used this at my piglin bartering farm to separate out all the soul speed books. This is in addition to the brewing stand setup to separate out all of the potions and water bottles. I'm putting the output into a shulker box loader. All works like a charm.

4) can also be used to seperate shulker boxes from non shulker boxes by replacing the brewing stand with a shulker box, the potions chest will now be any non shulker box and the other chest will be your shulker box. 5) will sort out any items that are used in a dispenser, so like snowballs eggs and firecharges will also be thrown out, buckets can be used etc. So be careful with using these items.

You’re a genius. I made an auto cooked chicken farm, got tired of walking to it, made a powered rail track that brings the chicken right to my door, got tired of having to manually sort through the occasionally raw chicken and feathers, so I used this to sort it before it even gets to me. I’m a happy man.

I have been using the first item sorter for a few years now (since impulse first video on it) but have made one small change. I have replaced the top row of hoppers with a water stream. This not only reduced the number of hoppers (good for cost and lag in big systems) but it prevents one issue I found where an item in one of the later filters filling up and then causing the hopper chain to back up. It doesn't break the filter but items can stop flowing. I either let the items sit at the end of the water stream and despawn or have then go into lava\cactus to be destroyed. Great filters and once again thanks impulse for them.

Hey Impulse, I designed what I call a “serial sorter”, which I find very useful. Instead of a single item per filter, you have a chest of items that you want to be filtered (the filter chest) from the input chest. The items from the filter chest go into a hopper that points into the side of the sorting filter (directly below the input chest). Then, each item from the “filter chest” in turn takes the spot of the first item in the sorting filter. Its bulky and slow, but it can do the work of a lot of individual sorting units.

I don't know if someone already mentioned it, but there is a torch burnout issue with the stackable item filter, or non stackable bypass (whichever you want to call it). And I'm not referring to the upper torch (which is superfluous) that is locking the main pipe hopper. I am referring to the torch locking the lower hopper until the comparator detects an item in the pipe hopper. If a non stackable item is pushed into that pipe hopper while that torch is burned out the hopper beneath it will pull it (because it can grab it before the comparator produces its output). This can be remedied with the use of an observer watching the redstone dust on the block the comparator is powering to trigger a sticky piston with a redstone block. Here is an image: prntscr.com/oia9c1 I haven't had any issues with this one. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more progress on the skyblock series with Skizz. Cheers! ;)

I would put 10 blocks and the chest would fill with 9 and 1 would get stuck inside the hopper. Great video, love the different designs! A tip for those wanting to use design #2 with less items "wasted", put 11 of each filter-material into each slot and then place 1 of the item that you want filtered into the remaining slot, that way you "waste" only 1 and don't waste 41 of the items you want sorted. Overflow safe as well.

I've used the first sorter for years, though some times I tweak it a bit. If you make it longer, I think it's 5 blocks out. You can increase the number of items inside without running into overflow problems. I think I put in 4 items that stacked to 16 like snowballs or signs. I can't remember the exact filter number but basically it cut down the 41 items locked inside to something much smaller while still being tile able.

Note: because of items transfer and redstone power innings in bedrock are hash based the first 3 sorter only sometimes work on bedrock. Silentwhisper has a bedrock only version that reliably works. You have to remove the repeaters to prevent the random same tick redstone/item processing

Thank you. Might add the potion and non stack sorter on my raid farm. Fyi. On bedrock the first one can break. What I'm hearing its something with the repeater. Might have something to do with having more items in slot 2-5. But not from backing up. Think it has to do with loading and unloading chunks that are working. Might want to look. There is a model you could show. It removes the repeater and uses a piston and comparitor. Options exist to block the pistons to run quiet. Although i built on for a flower farm. It looks cool with them moving. Looking at mod that uses note blocks to play music as it sorts.

Tip for everyone who wants to use the first design, use a dropper and water stream to carry the items over the locked hoppers instead of an additional hopper line, this removes all uncovered hoppers which are what cause a lot of lag. With the water I have currently built like 250 of these sorters with no problems, but without the water I start lagging after like 20-30

Filter bones and arrows and everything else (bows, armour) will end up in the non sorted chest(s) anyway. From there you can manually sort or funnel into dropper-to-lava setup for instant permanent disposal.
