@@Roescoe Could it really? In what circumstance would someone else unknowingly get the same item as you, rename it in the same way, and then put it in your sorter? It would likely be malice. And if someone is malicious there is a lot more they can do than just put items in your sorter, they could simply break a bit of redstone, or remove the actual sorting item. And if they can't see into the sorting hoppers or break them, then they arent going to know what to rename the item to break the machine, or what item it is. I think it's far less likely that someone's sorting system will be broken by a renamed item than it is someone will accidentally stab through their eyeball when trying to eat food with a fork, and I personally am completely comfortable eating pasta without worrying about losing an eye lol

Agreed. Fix the compass to the exact position of the hopper itself. A 2nd advantage is that even if someone had one or more compasses already linked to that spot, nobody would run around with a whole stack of them. I don't see any situation where someone runs around with more than 10-ish linked compasses in a stack. (Meaning the sorter is safe from receiving 47(?) compasses and emptying out the first stack - but not from the first stack filling up to 64 items and the compasses lifting the signal strength above 3. A 3rd advantage is that you'd create items specific to each hopper and only on demand. Meaning YOU YOURSELF never run around with a whole stack of your filler item (while you can run around with a whole stack of the raw compasses). A cheap man's solution would be to use items like sticks/ iron nuggets/ books and putting the coordinates in the name (or content). Can be duplicated, but only by someone with malicious intent, or by being off by one with the coordinates while renaming. And the latter can be avoided by appending the time and date of renaming.

If the only concern is preventing the sorting system from breaking, you can use non stackable items as the sorting block. It requires you to use a far longer redstone line, may cause more lag due to lighting updates, take up more space, and be harder to tile. But it will actually be impossible to break simply by inserting items. This even prevents duped items from accidentally entering the system as well. This, by the criteria of this video, nonstackable items are the best filter blocks (if you ONLY about preventing the sorter from breaking)

I really like the lodestone compass option, because there's an obvious protocol to avoid accidental collisions with any other lodestone compass: place the lodestone for a farm's compasses at that farm, labeled as such. An adversarial player can create collisions, but the probability that someone _accidentally_ creates a compass that clashes isn't just small, it's zero, since they had to actually go to the lodestone at that farm that'd you'd set aside and intentionally misuse it.

This video is more about "what is the most unique item that you can use as a filler item in item filters?" For the best filler item, I prefer using any item I have an abundance of, and name them after which filter they're supposed to be in. And importantly: instead of naming a whole stack, I name exactly as many as is needed for that specific filter. Then, there's no reason for anyone to have the same item unless it's been taken from the specific filter, in which case that's where it belongs anyway. And if the filter breaks for any reason and the filler items go somewhere else or say if the filter was blown up and someone picked up the filler item, it's easy to see which filter it's supposed to belong to.

A UUID can be expressed as 32 hex characters, but the character limit for renaming items is 50 in java edition. So you can easily just generate a UUID and rename an item to that id and you can rest assured that it won't conflict with anything unless someone intentionally makes a copy
@bright_lego
@bright_lego Жыл бұрын
After some investigation, it appears that the 50 character limit is actually a 100 byte limit in UTF-16 (or 50 UTF-16 units) so there are 6668116180258093075548900083264032211698769839189675092694425146132111763448788211478272384471170855239622409714675224625952063862125073775947095479446910473806244710933553949850252514618396947045661879873067282329626685944671661969599692800 (or roughly 7 * 10^240). This is larger than just 2^800 as there are also many other possible lengths of the name. This makes the chance of a conflict 0 to 240 decimal places. For context, if you gave everyone on earth 1 billion processors each able to generate 10 billion new names every second and this has been going on for the current lifetime of the universe, the expected number of conflicts with your name would be 0 to 193 decimal places (or 5.2 * 10^-195). If you included the time until the heat death of the universe (or 10^106 years), the expected number of conflicts with your name is 0 to 98 decimal places (or 3.8 * 10^-99). So I think just giving items custom names should be enough, given that you destroy or rename any left-over items after building the sorter.

A better alternative: Naming an item with random Unicode characters is more efficient and effective. If you name your filter items with 50 random Unicode characters (max length of an anvil), since there are over 140 thousand characters, you will get over 144,697^50 possibilities, which is equals to 1.05e+258 combinations. In a similar analogy, if every second a million items are named differently, it would take 3.34e+250 years on average to get all the possibilities, which, if you know basic math, you will realize it’s more time than anyone can comprehend (this number is over 10^247 times larger than the age of the universe). And all of that is not even taking into account that you can name items without the anvil’s length, which would increase the possibilities even more. If you also consider there are almost 400 unique items in Minecraft (even excluding custom banners, named books, maps, etc, which would increase this number way too much) the amount of combinations becomes (1.05e+258)*400. Which is just an insanity of a number, not even comparable in the slightest to any other thing in the universe. There are random Unicode generators out there that can generate a bunch of Unicode characters at a time, so it’s also extremely easy to reproduce. I also heard bee hives store NBT data, so making a ton of them may make your game laggy, as opposed to named items which don’t store much data whatsoever. Just a note: even though a lot of the characters are not textured in Minecraft, you can check for yourself that they are still considered different than each other in the game, meaning 2 items named with the same length but different untextured characters will not stack. TL;DR: naming a random item with a random Unicode character is indeed enough to last for the rest of your Minecraft world.

The exact amount of Lodestone location possibilities is *1,382,399,216,640,110,976* (1.38... quintillion) Calculation: blcoks cannot be placed outside the world border, which actually ends at 59,999,983 (17 blocks away from the perfect 60 million). The border size squared because the world is a square times world height 384 = 1,382,399,216,640,110,976 Alternative solution to item filters: Have all your blockers be the same thing and have a private* sorter just for that. *Private = not adjacent to any other filters, meaning signal strength never bleeds over, also meaning you can use unstackable items as your filter items.

In Bedrock edition you can rename an item with the paragraph (§) and a character behind. With one letter you can make those random minecrafty characters you often see at like mystical weapons from modpacks. I think it was k (it is in the wiki) And those items that are renamed with that tag only stack if they are made in the same renaming process. So renaming an item to §k filter you can make an item that cannot stack with anything ever again. You could also recolour the item name to give it more customisation. I will leave a link in the reply if i can find it.

That doesn't sound right. Are you sure? The §k only affects the display of the characters, and is just a normal string of characters to the actual game, so if the same original string is replicated perfectly, it should be able to stack like any other renamed item.

I feel like the 2 most reasonable filters are just nonstackable items (like wooden shovels) for perfect reliability, and renamed filter items (like sticks, nuggets, or something else easily obtained en masse) and then destroy the the excess filler items to prevent accidental contamination. Basically everything else on the list is either too easily broken (unless in very special contexts) or just inconvenient to aquire with possibly the exact same risks as renaming sticks to "sticky" interms of accidentally dropping them back into the system. Well, you could in theory obtain items in previous versions of minecraft that don't exist anymore, liked the unused tipped arrow or the petrified stone slab, and as long as you're sure that there are not any more of those on the entire server, it would be actually impossible, not just theoretically improbable, to obtain more of them once you update the game, assuming some glitch to obtain them is not discovered in the future.

Personally, I like to keep a secondary item filter that's a harder item to get and then renamed something that's impossible to re-use (then I burn any extras). Then I use nuggets called "filler nugget". I then filter out filler nuggets before my storage. That way my common filter gets sorted so I can use it again, and the harder sorter protects the system. I'll probably use one of these tricks for my secondary filler. That way I can protect my most important systems without having to farm beehives too much.

Wooden shovels, they're unstackable, and no Farm in the universe produces them. The only real downside is you have to make your item filters 15 Redstone lines long, which could cause a lot of lag.

I dont understand why you have to change the setup. Ilmango said in the video when you change the filter to something that stacks to 16 that it’s slower but i don’t see that. When filter items can stack to 64 the slot fills up to 41 and with filter items that stack to 16 it fills up to 21 (I think. I can’t remember the precise number), so wouldn’t that make the system better? It can hold a lot more items before overflowing and the redstone is the same. How is it with non-stackable and why do you have to change the redstone?
@deathlessgamer
@deathlessgamer Жыл бұрын
@@andersbuchjeppesen5493 You have to change the Redstone because unstackable items act the same as a stack of 64. By extending each line to 15 long it guarantees that there's no cross talk. I had it hooked up to one of my old mob Farms, it worked like an absolute treat.

My go to is renamed feathers. I've always got more than I'll ever use from early game chicken farms. Between infinity bows and easy ways to obtain lots of arrows like Skelton spawner farms, villager trading, Piglin bartering farms, etc., I only end up using feathers for book and quill. Simple chicken farms always seem to far outpace my need for book and quill. I've also used renamed rotten flesh. Limited use for me and very easy to get. I just make sure to use a name that won't get duplicated by accident or so random it's unlikely to be used again.

I rename items with a randomly generated UUID and then once I'm done with the filters I clear the name of the remaining items. This is such that it's easy to deal with, I'm not left with items that can end up in the filter, and I don't have to farm bee nests (massive coincidence that was your #1 pick). You could really easily make a website which hands out a unique name on request and stores the name in a database and then verifies that a randomly generated name is unique in the world. Just make sure that everyone either deletes filter items once they're done with them and then dismiss the given name on the website and it will never be granted again.

I believe the Firework Rocket item is the better one as shown in the video (though there are "better" options), assuming you are using the same item sorting design in the video. The potential the Firework Rocket has over the Beehive/Bee Nest is non-renewability. Diamonds can be used in the crafting recipe for Firework Stars, which can then be used to craft Fireworks. (Though Firework Stars is all you need!) Assuming you'd take the time to go through all dimensions and destroying/collecting every last Diamond item (which is more feasible than getting a Beehive/Bee Nest in the exact configuration as someone else did), crafted your Firework Stars, and destroyed any items remaining (or stored them in your Ender Chest), after this is done, the ONLY way for someone to break your sorting system is through tampering with the machine or duping one of the sorting items. In the end, it breaks down into three categories of items (two if you are going with the standard item sorter): non-renewable items, highly customizable items, or unstackable items. Non-renewable items have the plus side of, when they're used up you can't get any more. Really you don't even need something as complex as the Firework Star. You could use Enchanted Golden Apples, any Ore Block, Dead Bushes, Disc Fragments, Large Ferns, or any of the many other nonrenewable items. Then there's a second choice of what kind of non-renewable item you'd want to use. You could choose one that's easier to obtain but has very few in the world such as Dragon Heads, Tall Grass, or Large Ferns. Each of these are only found in one dimension, and can only be found in chests of structures that are "easy" to find. (Dragon Head only found on End Ships in the End, Tall Grass only found in the Overworld in Savanna Villager houses, and Large Ferns only found in the Overworld in Taiga Villager houses.) Given enough time, the player could fly over the entirety of a Minecraft world, spot these structures, and collect all these item(s). These items have the down side that, since there's so few of them, it may be possible to eventually run out of them after using a bunch of them, but the plus side of them being more easily expendable. Secondarily, there's the more common non-renewable items like Dead Bushes, Spore Blossoms, or Ancient Debris. Dead Bushes can be collected on the surface of the world either through natural generation or from chests or structures. Spore Blossoms and Ancient Debris however can primarily be found by digging under the surface. These items are much more common and would be much harder for a player to collect every last one of, but have the up side of being a lot more usable. Highly customizable items are the more obvious choice. Most of them can't be completely used up, and once created and the extras are disposed of, there is an astronomically low chance of another player getting their hands on the exact same item. This could be Beehives or Bee Nests, Banners, Copies of an original Written Book, Firework Rockets or Stars, or really just any renamable item. With as many unicode characters as there are, on top of any customizations of any item you could rename, the likelyhood of a player randomly guessing this item is next to impossible, yet is still technically possible. Finally, the most basic item, unstackables. If used in a special kind of item sorter, they are impossible to be broken. However this means using up more space for your redstone contraption that could potentially be needed for something else, and there is only a limited amount of space in a Minecraft world that every block needs to be used to its fullest potential. TLDR: Dragon Heads are the best item to use in an item sorter because they are the easiest-to-obtain-all-of non-renewable item in Minecraft, that when collected in their entirety, leaves it impossible for anyone else to have that same item to break your most size-efficient item filter.

I've previously had the idea for the name to be a message to someone who sees it to let the owner know that the filters aren't working anymore, equivalent to "This message should not appear." While it could be more effort than would otherwise be necessary, having sorters below each to detect and stop items from coming in to avoid further problems, by locking the hoppers and stopping the item elevator(s), until it's fixed and manually reset, with the items diverted to bulk storage in the meantime to reduce the likelihood of the loss of potentially valuable items, especially what wouldn't be, or not easily, renewable.

For this system to work, you need to use multiple beehives, which obviously won't have the same UUID, so the relevant probability isn't of getting a bee with one specific UUID but rather of it matching any of the UUIDs in the system. it is incredibly easy to build a failsafe into a hopper line, extend the input line by 1 or 2 hoppers and put a hopper below the extra, then fill those bottom hoppers with 1 item each slot of the item you are using as a filter, this way, say you are using iron nuggets named filter s a filter, but you end up throwing some into the system by some freak accident, the extra hoppers will pull them out before it gets sent into the sorter and then you don't have to worry about it

I think there might be a way to make a reliable pre-filter to filter out the filler items before the main filter, but I won't be able to test it for a while. With that system, if it would work, the only way to break it would be to drop the filler item into the system after the first filter. Not as good as using the items you used here, but much easier and gives more options for what item to use in the filter. The implementation I have in mind does have one problem though, which is that if you dropped a very large number of filler items into the system some other items that are put into the system at the same time could despawn.
