Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained by pressing the seeds of the castor oil plant (Ricinus communis). The common name "castor oil", from which the plant gets its name, probably comes from its use as a replacement for castoreum, a perfume base made from the dried perineal glands of the beaver (castor in Latin).
Castor oil is a colorless to very pale yellow liquid with a distinct taste and odor once first ingested. Its boiling point is 313 °C (595 °F) and its density is 961 kg/m3. It is a triglyceride in which approximately 90 percent of fatty acid chains are ricinoleates. Oleate and linoleates are the other significant components.
Castor oil and its derivatives are used in the manufacturing of soaps, lubricants, hydraulic and brake fluids, paints, dyes, coatings, inks, cold resistant plastics, waxes and polishes, nylon, pharmaceuticals and perfumes.

About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

Castor oil is amazing! I'm a licensed massage therapist and we use castor oil packs with hot water bottles to help alleviate constipation and detoxify the intestines. Castor oil will also clean out the intestinal tract. "Back in the day". mothers would line up the children and give each child a big spoonful of castor oil to clean out the digestive system. Usually this was dine in the spring. Those were the lucky kids. some got it twice a year. lol So funny hearing the seniors talking about castor oil day(they hated it). I don't know how that worked. a house full of kids and one out house. lol My mother in law used to take a dose following a very bad cold or after a round of antibiotics. It was to clean out the system. It cleaned out all the mucous and junk in the intestines. I have often thought, if people still practiced the castor oil cleansing, if that would prevent things like diverticulitis. Because that oil makes everything very slick for a time. I don't think anything could stick around in the intestines during a castor oil cleansing. Like Drano for your plumbing. lol Loved the tips for the eyes. I am going to try it!

My mother was big on us all getting castor oil, malt extract and the most awful smelling sulphur and treacle. I could sit with the jar of malt extract and a spoon, loved it but the sulphur was just pure torture. None of the 3 of us girls ever had a blemish when all our friends were fighting the dreaded teenage acne. I'm 60 now and losing my eyelashes and brows so will definitely be trying that. Thanks Stacy.

Well, just know it is rather unpleasant. Take it in the morning and plan on staying home and near the toilet. lol. I learned from my mother in law, that chasing castor oil with some orange juice, helps to get it down and out of your mouth. Castor oil is really thick. makes me gag. lol There will be tummy rumbling and grumbling as it moves through. some even experience some cramping, but I haven't. Some say, eating light the day before helps. Less to move through the pipes. I guess, the reaction is determined on the condition of the digestive tract.

Stacy and Doug, 3 years ago a woman at a Christian womens' meeting told us that her husband had HAD cataracts in both eyes. They didn't have the money for the dangerous expensive surgeries. So someone told them to use a couple of drops of castor oil in his eyes before bedtime. ( I don't know how long he used it.) But the cataracts went away. The milky film disappeared. He could see clearly. I also remember taking it orally, as a child to "clean out," your body after colds. We were healthier back then. Thank you both, for the wonderful videos. We're ALL in this together. Helping as we go! Shalom.

Castor oil is also Non-comedogenic which means it won’t clog pores, especially on your face. 💌👍🏼 Also preferable to buy it in glass bottles where poss. since it draws out toxins, you don’t want it drawing out any possible chemicals from a plastic bottle. Many make a castor oil plaster or pack, to place over the liver area for a detox. Or as an an anti inflammatory pack over muscle aches, wounds etc.

Castor Oil. Another lost “remedy “! Thank you for talking about it. Mom always kept it when I was a little girl. I remember her and my older sisters trying to hold me down to swallow a spoonful. I’m sure I must of been sick. And she would blow on my face to make me swallow it. Awww... sweet memories! 💗

I dissolved a bone spur on the bottom of my foot. It took bout 6 months and at times was very hard to walk cause it was hurting so bad. Now its almost complety gone. I can step down on that area no more huge bump and massive pain. Plus it works on wrinkles etc. Its a miracle thats been around forever. Its just we lost our way when we lost our old ways! Thank you doug and stacy for bringing back the good old natural remedies. 😮God bless you both!

I enjoy watching these older videos and seeing what has changed (different brand, more uses now, no more Lehman's, lol) and what has remained constant (still cold-pressed and hexane free, and castor oil still rocks). It just goes to show...even you two have never stopped learning, never stopped growing and you still reach for better information, and we all need to strive for that.

Castor oil is moisturizing and antibacterial!!!! Wow,I will sure get some for my daughter because she likes make up and castor oil sounds really gentle.I could put it on my age spots etc.I only ever thought it was for clearing your insides out and granny use to say,"if your back late from play I will give you a spoon of caster oil", we hated the stuff so it was a good tactic to make sure we got back on time and it worked, none of us kids liked the stuff.many parents would threaten their kids with a huge spoon of castor oil, lol. Dad used to put castor oil on his boots to keep them supple and clean. You are both funny, your clips are great.missed the kitty today with you guys.
