Great emotionally stabbing music such as this piece is is what I call closed-eye music. Where one is drawn into the sound alone listening to every note communicating truth. This is closed-eye music from the beginning to the incomparable ending. Thank you so much.

A truly beautiful composition, Paul. Your variations have plenty of interest as you explore the haunting melancholy of the melody. Your harmonic writing is most impressive - particularly in the loud sections where you inject such drama. An amazing achievement: I am awestruck!

A nice set of variations. A sort of harmonic explorations with an always clearly audible cantus firmus. Very ear pleasing music (in a good way of course!). And what better than the composer playing his own work. (highlight for me was the first interlude, i like that sort of meditative lingering playing)

Hi Paul, I just received this composition and some others this week. I played through it today.. It is such incredible writing...all of these harmonies...where do they come from ? You create such a mood. The full section is gripping, as it take holds of you on an incredible journey...I love the quiet ending and harmonies.. But that was just my impression from reading the score. .I realized I had never heard you play it, so here i am on KZbin listening for the first time. You really feel the emotion when you play.. Such an honor to know you and play your music. This is a masterpiece. Maybe you could feature some of these Holy Week pieces again this year. I had not heard of you at this time last year.
