Geez! Wow! This video just turned up on my feed. So I had a listen. I’m a bassist who’s spent a considerable amount of time relearning guitar. I’m an older guy now & my beautiful kids are good & gone, so now I want to spend the rest of my life in music. I’ve arrived at the fact once again that I’m going to have to do some singing if I’m to go solo for now. I prefer band. I can stay in tune ok but I’m not a strong singer. I’ve just been a backing vocalists at jams. I pulled my VL3X out of the closet not long ago & I was going hmmm okay what can I do. I started a search. A few days later I found this simple, down to earth & very inspirational video lesson of yours. It’s just totally changed my approach. Thank you soo much🙏You have no idea what that just did for me….hahahaha honestly! Keep up the good work sir! This world is definitely in need of replenishing. Time for some good fresh and tasty Vibes again. Screw cancel culture!

Finally a succinct explanation of sound effects. No ego, just a fun relaxed and educational session, thank you! I could do with your services now to help me decide what to use on each song 😂😂
@Vonbeardingham2 жыл бұрын
Ah thank you for the message, really means a lot :) its really tricky when it comes to using different effects for different songs. I find a good thing to keep in mind is keeping a good core sound, then adding in effects when you need it. Other wise sonically, if the voice changes too much during a live performance it kinda throws peoples ears off. I tend to have a base effect with a bit of reverb as my standard, then bring in some extra verb for power ballads, maybe harmonies when i need it and some doubling and delays in certain phrases for effect. Thats just my way of doing things, but the world would be boring if we all did things the same lol
@TheLex208742 жыл бұрын
@@Vonbeardingham thank you for taking the time to reply. Do you think the pedal you are using is suitable for a novice (not a novice singer but a novice at anything sound tech related)? I have looked at the Boss VE 20 but I have no idea what I am looking at! Lastly (sorry!), is the ear monitor the equivalent to me having my own amp so I can hear myself? if so, any recommendation? Thanks again
@Vonbeardingham2 жыл бұрын
ok pedal wise, I'm not too familiar with the boss range, I'm a tc-helicon man myself and for someone who's starting out with singing tech i really rate the voicelive play. Its a small unit, lots of patches and simple but useful effects to use. In-ear monitoring systems mean that you get to hear yourself much clearer as the ear-buds block out more of the sound of the band onstage. It means you dont have to have a monitor onstage, you dont have to try and be heard over the rest of the band and you can put in as little or as much of other musicians as you like if they are mic'd up into your earphone mix. it basically means you can tailor the sound to sing too exactly how you like it. Its a life and voice saver for any singer :)

I use a Boss VE-500 live, and for harmonies you can set it to pick a specific note based on whatever specific note you are singing. So when we do some Earth, Wind, and Fire stuff with super high falsetto stuff, I tell the pedal that if I'm singing D, it's adding F# and A. If I'm singing C#, it's adding E and G#, etc. The initial setup is laborious, but it helps avoid unexpected bad harmonies from the pedal
@Vonbeardingham3 ай бұрын
Being able to customise your harmonies like that is a godsend! Have you got any live vids of you using it for the earth wind and fire stuff? Be great to hear how good it sounds 👍🏼
@realkylehooks3 ай бұрын
@@Vonbeardingham it used to be that onstage doing "September," I'd sing the main part on the "bah dee ah" (C# D C#), and on the second and third choruses, my brother -- our drummer -- would add the harmony above it, then I saved his voice by having the pedal do the higher part so he could double me. I don't have any videos on hand with it, but we're playing a couple of weddings this weekend, so I can likely snag a video
