Hello Justine. I'm from Helsinki, Finland. I stopped buying new clothes because shops started to sell a lot of cheap synthetic materials here, with natural fibres often priced out of my range, and now I try and gather my clothes from thrift stores. I'm a fast knitter, so I could knit myself more cardigans I suppose, and I have sewn a few t-shirts from old 90s cotton which I dyed black in the washing machine (my self-sewn clothes are clothes I more often wear at home, for pyjamas.) I think thrifting has developed for me a hoarding problem, which I'm now trying to manage with some success. I tell you this because I think it might be interesting and relevant to you thinking about aspects of clothing and consumption. To the question at hand: surprisingly, my favourite item of clothing is a black polyester tulle skirt, which I wear when it isn't cold (dressing seasonally is a must here.) I'm a dancer, and I've danced for 20 years, out of that ballet for 10 years. Because genetically I am not chic and lithe, but rather more built to fill a door frame with my height and build, you'd never expect to see a tulle skirt in my size, but I found one in a thrift store a few summers ago, and I fell in love with it. It's about 2/3 the length of a romantic 1800s tutu. Wearing it never fails to delight me. I have sewn a four-tiered ballet tutu for dance class before, and managing the layers when pulling them all together is so stressful, I would never attempt to construct one for myself for day wear. I wear my tulle skirt sometimes with a body-hugging top, other times with another very loose-flowing jumper to get myself a kind of a funky triangle silhouette.

Hello Justine! My favourite piece of clothing is new to the season, a chiffon blouse. It is very colurful with the dominant colour green - which is ma fave colour. I am constantly moving, well I have an apartment in a city, a cottage on an little island and a owner of a van. I can often work remotely.I need a nce top when participating online meeyings, a couple of office wear and a small capsule to take with me. The best sustainable solution was to go 'merino wool'. The best! Now I wear breathable natural fibres. I wash them seldom (but they can be washed in mashine) using wool detergent. I often air my pieces. They do not need ironing and should be stored flat. I love them I have tested unbound merino clothes and now I buy northoutdoot merino clothes. On the top of my t-shirts and (sleeveless) dresses I wear my blouse. All the colours, such as olive green, black, rose red and pink match beautifully with this chiffong blouse. Happy 2024 challenge to you!

I totally get you about thrifting becoming a hoarding problem. When it’s cheap I can’t resist but it’s still overconsumption even if not as bad for the environment as buying new. I still struggle with buying too much and I feel online second apps like Vinted are actually making things worse for me

Favorite item: pinafore dresses with pockets that can be worn over any combination of shirts/sweaters and trousers. As someone plus-size who tries to wear only natural fibers, it's taken years to build a wardrobe that not only fits but feels goth romantic.

My favorite item by far is a wine-red half-circle midi skirt that I bought 12 years ago from a local designer. It's just perfect! The color and the length (mid-knee) are flattering, it has a zipper so no weird scrunches at the waist. It's synthetic, which isn't always ideal but in this case it works well - machine washable and doesn't need to be ironed. Not see-through. I can dress it up or down depending on the occasion. And of course, two in-seam pockets that are deep enough for a phone and keys! Like I say, I've had it for over a decade and it's still in good shape, I'm lucky it still fits! 😊

My favorite winter piece is an orange, gray trimmed Kasper wool jacket that I purchased a few years ago at my favorite thrift store. I wasn't certain about the color, but loved the classic lines an hidden zipper closure. My daughter's immediate reaction and a complete stranger both gasped and said "You have to buy that! It looks fantastic on you!" Even now, whenever I wear it, people will stop and compliment me. Plus, being slightly loose fitted, it's so comfortable. And surprisingly, goes with nearly nearly everything in my closet.

Hi Justine, my favourite piece in my wardrobe - is the jacket I'm about to sew. It took me a long long time to find the right fabric - and now I'm making a pattern for a Chanel inspired jacket to wear all spring, summer and autumn as an outer piece and in the winter under my coat instead of a cardigan. As I live in Denmark it's one of the colder countries in Europe - it'll be one garment I can use all year around. At the same time it's a small change to my classic wardrobe, as I found the most beautiful Chanel inspired fabric produced in Italy, just around the corner of where I live. 😊

Thank you for the information. It’s got me thinking. I’m a person with a small budget, who wants to use only natural fibers. Starting with a few core pieces of good quality, will take me awhile, but it’s my goal. I also have to be careful of “care” instructions. I am retired, and know myself well enough to know that handwashing means I’ll be in my Scarlet O’Hara mode; “I’ll think about it tomorrow.”! My statement pieces are my rings. I’ve been interested in gemstones and design from childhood. I have long, slim fingers, with long natural nails that I nail polish. During the 40 years of my working, I’ve accumulated many rings. Twice I bought a loose gemstone and had them set; a pale beautifully cut yellow citrine set in a high Tiffany white gold setting, and a large alexandrine set in a yellow gold slightly raised, very plain setting. Those were the days! I like to color coordinate with my clothing. Even now, when I rarely go out, I put my rings on in order to feel dressed! I’m very fortunate that even a ring from my 16th birthday, still fits

Hi Justine, My favourite piece in my wardrobe is my "hardworking" dress - these change over time, but must be comfortable, fitted but not tight, smart, have pockets, not crease, be worn with low heels, go from day to night, go with a jacket, and have sleeves. This is my goto dress when I know I have a big day. As a Deputy Principal in a school, my hardworking dress gives me confidence, is professional and modest (can cut it with the guys in suits), pockets hold keys, markers, tissues and stickers, low heels means I can run if necessary, non creasing means it looks good all day (and usually doesn't require ironing).

In fall 2023 I puchased an Italian-made 100% wool tweed men's blazer from a thrift store. It appears to have never been worn. I am building a new color palette around the brown tones in the blazer. It has become a new favorite, and I've styled it in multiple ways already, including integrating with existing basics and accessories, and use it as a reference point for purchases.

Favorite item: a jacket with a unique, colorful, and non-repeating pattern. In the style of Picasso, it brings smiles all around. Wore it yesterday and 17 people complimented it. For more than 40 years, I have repaired and rejuvenated it and will never give it up. Second favorite: a cotton turtleneck tunic half rust and half black (vertical). Unintentionally I wore it for my driver's license photos over 16 years and plan to continue. Color motivates me above all else.

favourite item worn every day. My home made Welsh wool apron that comes down well beneath my knees and though usually worn with long warm skirts when gardening I even wear it with trousers, It is water repellant , thorn resistant and warm. Perfect for walks and gardening and if I added a white linin one on top tidy enough to wear to market. It's traditional and distinctive and if I get caught without a hood can be a cape thrown over my hair in a storm. Has big pockets too.

Good ideas Justine! My fave items are the garments I make and sew myself! I use vintage patterns, as I prefer a vintage look outside of my everyday comfy wardrobe. I am self-taught with no formal training, but have always enjoyed sewing. Sadly, it is becoming a fading art and skill, as fewer people have these skills in modern times. I'd love to see you do a video about this (if you haven't already).

Just what I needed - I tried to Konmari my clothes, and realised I have barely anything that sparks joy. To the point that I would not have a functional wardrobe if I actually tossed out my 'No' pile. 😓 Time for an update! My favourite item at the moment, I think, is an off white crochet/knitted sweater. It have a V-neck, and is fairly short (though not cropped). It was not that expensive, but it falls really nicely, and make my legs look extra long in comparison. I also like to mix different textures in an outfit (actually, I think I got that from one of your old videos?), and it helps a lot with that. Because it is so 'open', it have been working great for winter with a basic black top underneath, but because of the shape, it might even work in spring or summer as well, paired with a skirt, or maybe some shorts.

I can walk all day and my feet feel as comfortable as if I were wearing a pair of cushy sneakers. (Even better than sneakers, I can wear them in snow, slush, and puddles and my feet stay warm & dry.) I can wear multiple layers of socks and tights inside to keep toasty warm while wearing skirts and dresses. I can dress them up and dress them down. My favourite item in my wardrobe are my jeans from & Other Stories. They are full length flares with patch pockets on the front. I think they give a 70s vibe and I love 70s fashion. I am a rectangle shape with long legs and a short body and I think that they really flatter my shape. They make me feel smart and elevated and whatever I put on with them, a white t-shirt or a shirt, with a blazer, I always feel a million dollars. It is now in pretty bad shape, and despite multiple attempts by highly skilled craftsmen to, literally, keep it from falling apart to the point of being unwearable, that is exactly what it is doing. I wear it anyway. Nothing compares… nothing.

My favorite item by far is a London tailored classic jacket that can be worn as a suit or on its own ( I mostly do) , as a jacket or instead of a coat ( as it’s slightly longer - arms length ) and it makes anything look classy and elegant. Second favorite item - the pearls 😊

My current favourite item is my winter coat! I wear it most days to work, and after lots of researching and searching I found it second hand on Vinted (which makes it feel even better each time I wear it). It's black and white in a small houndstooth pattern, but the shape and colours and feel just make it go with everything I wear. I really love that it's a second hand piece, and it's wearing really well so far.

I changed jobs this year and started commuting by train and bus 2 to 3 days a week, and found as winter progressed that my office was quite cold. Looking through my wardrobe i found a black turtleneck dress bought at a thrift shop that carries some new items by local designers. The dress was perfect for the commute: i wore it with tights so it was warm; i didn’t have to worry about tucking pants into my boots to save them from salt and dirty snow; it was warm in my cold office with a wrap or scarf; it looked chic despite being essentially a long knit turtleneck. Definitely my favourite this past winter!

I always change things based on the color of the year. So far, I have updated my phone case, the shoelaces to my favorite shoes, my winter hat, my everyday nail polish, and even the wreath on my front door to represent Peach Fuzz. My favorite item right now is my red and black flannel shirt. Very useful for these colder months.

Hello, Justine. I'm a man so you might plan to exclude me from any tally you do for the next video, but I thought I'd try to answer your question about favorite clothing or accessory that I wear regularly. I did a major revamp of my clothes during the covid shutdown and got rid of so many items that fit poorly and couldn't be saved by a tailor, or had an unflattering color or look. So I finally find myself in the lucky position of generally liking almost all of my clothes. That makes it hard to choose a favorite item, though! Excluding outerwear (coats, scarves, hat) and "fancier" items I don't wear every day (sport coat, pocket square), still leaves me with shoes, socks, and pants! My best socks feel luxurious and have a lovely variety of color, but they wear out quickly, so drop them. Shoes are long-lasting and a joy, but I now have many of them and cannot choose just one - like socks, the joy is in matching them to outfit, mood, and so on. So that leaves pants - where I have a clear champion: a favorite pair of corduroy pants. I wear them probably once a week. They are incredibly soft and comfortable but also look quite good - the corduroy gives them some flair. And the color is such that it goes with many other items in my wardrobe. Plus, it was trying to buy a decent pair of pants that began my big overhaul of my wardrobe. So there you have it! Thank you for your videos - even though you don't cover men's fashion, I enjoy learning from you what I can. Kind regards -

My favourite item right now is a grey mockneck sweater. It's super cozy, has zips along the side to make it looser and flowier, and also has a detachable turtleneck. It can be worn so many different ways so it always feels interesting. In summer, my favourite item is a pair of heeled sandal clogs. The wood platform sole gives me some height and looks very chic, while keeping my feet cool. :)

Your comment about vintage styles we might like - or certain parts of them - got me thinking about the clothes that I have loved the most over the last 55 years. Why did I love them? The style? or colour? or fit? It gave me some good ideas of what I'd like to make this year. My favourite item currently is a thicker 100% cotton, long-sleeved, rust sweater. It is thick enough that it doesn't cling to every bulge but drapes nicely, just skimming over the figure. Has a boat neckline and curved hem. I am a very short, apple shaped person so it covers the middle bulge but is still nicely fitted through the shoulders. I have several multicoloured scarves that go with it and also a few necklaces.

Favourite item: small "Spikeme" Valentino crossbody/shoulder bag in black. It's like "the" Chanel bag, but edgy. The studs are very dark and only noticeable at a second glance. No logos. The puffy texture is fun to touch. The lock is sturdy and I never worry about someone opening it in a crowd without me noticing. Looks good with almost any outfit, and elevates it in a low-key way. One of my best purchases ever.

One category/item I love ❤️❤️❤️ (in MY wardrobe): scarfs … all kinds of scarfs. Silk, Jersey, fluffy, knit, sheer, big, little, themed, expensive, inexpensive, monochromes, bright, crazy, classy. And I pair my scarfs with shoes. Especially flats or near flats with interesting embellishments or interpretations. I’m petite with a boyish figure.

My favorite item to wear is really a whole category of accessory- my mostly vintage scarves. Favorites are Vera Neumann and Echo brands. My clothes are all solid colors so the scarves add the spice. Learning new ways to tie them is a hobby. I find that several scarves from the collection of about 40 will enhance the vibrancy of any top I wear, no matter how new the tops are. Just this morning I wore a fairly-neglected scarf and it changed the whole look of the simple outfit. Friends give me scarves they inherit, some are from charity shops and some from Etsy sellers. I use Konmari’s method to store them and they take up very little space. P.s. I felt this was one of your most helpful videos to date.

I have a few favourite items: - My tailored bright green blazer is perfect for throwing on top of any outfit to make it pop - can wear it even with a sweater underneath for the winter - My pastel blue maxi dress that's my go-to for being a wedding guest. It's comfy, elegant but doesn't stand out too much. Dressed down with a sweater and flats it's great for parties. - My white dress shirt with lace detailing. I inherited it from my husband's late grandmother and it just goes so well with basically everything I own whether for business or casual wear. It was tailor made for her in 1960's West Germany and it's been washed so frequently but still looks brand new.

Favorite item group: My ponchos and shawls. They are wonderful to have at my workplace where I often feel colder than my coworkers. I can easily put them on. They make great statement pieces. Come in lots of different styles; chunky knitted, smooth, embellished with beadwork, etc. And, I can find them in natural fibers like cotton, cashmere, bamboo, etc. This is important to me as I am such a staticky person that I will short circuit my work computer if I wear synthetic fibers (plus they make me feel miserable). And, thank you for the video. It was refreshing to be introduced to thinking about it this way! I enjoy customization, so this introduction to how to pick, look, and choose appealed to me more than just trying to follow trends right out of the box.

Hello Justine!!! I love your channel. You've managed to create a very safe space for all of us to come and learn about style without feeling judged and allowing us to know we deserve to look our best. Big shout out to you and thank you!❤ I'm a deep winter flamboyant natural (which I learned thanks to you!) And my favourite item in my wardrobe is my navy woolen cardigan. It's a staple that I can use with almost anything, and I love it because: - it's navy, so it looks great on me - it's made out of a fine knit wool, and I've found that wool is incredibly versatile and easy to care for (basically, all I have to do is air it a little bit and it never gets dirty), and since it's good quality it's going to last forever - it's rather unconstructed, with kimono type sleeves and I can wrap it around myself, and a little bit long. Great shape for a flamboyant natural! - I sewed it myself! I chose the fabric and the style I wanted, I made sure it fit me just the way I wanted it to and I made sure the finishings were just right. I love the way it looks and since I made it, I also feel positively attached to it. Have a great week! Greetings from the Basque Country 😘

Favorite item: a thrifted men's double-breasted black camel hair blazer. I've actually worn the left elbow out of it, and it's sitting right behind me in the kitchen on the back of a chair, waiting to be mended. I bought some cashmere yarn and I'm going to learn how to mend it with an embroidery stitch. (I think.) My new Sambas (white version) come a close second. Both are so comfortable and I get so many compliments on my almost-impossible-to-find Sambas. (I'm a 66-and-a-half-year-old lady working in a community college.) In general I love all of my men's clothes: dress shirts, wool pants, leather belts, jeans, wool overcoats, cowboy boots, leather loafers, blazers, sneakers, Burberry trench coat. Men's clothes fit me best, come in better fabrics than women's clothes, are tailored nicely, have great pockets and lots of them and they're deep, none of which is true for most women's clothes.

I find it hard to say which piece in my wardrobe is my favourite, because I have multiple pieces that I like for different outfits. I have for example two pairs of high waisted Levi's jeans, which are very practical and comfy so I wear them a lot. I also really love my high waisted skirt that I have sewn myself. I am really proud that I made it myself. It has large pockets, which I think is an amazing feature, since most women's clothing has either no pockets or pockets that suck. I also really love my red turtleneck, because it is simple and yet it has a dramatic color. Same thing goes for my bordeaux tights.

I adore your channel and I’m so glad you are still making videos with great, thoughtful content. Lovely. My favorite item this past winter has been a square, tan, cashmere scarf. I fold it diagonally, put the longest side in front of my neck, and tuck the ends around my neck, and back under the front- similar to a western handkerchief. It adds instant warmth, elevation to any outfit, casual or dressy, and the color works perfectly with my wardrobe. Best of all, it fits easily in my bag, so it can always be there for me when I need it. It inspired me to let go of many less versatile scarves in my collection, now being only 1 of 3 remaining.

Merci, Justine! I love the idea of introducing & incorporating a disruptive piece into our wardrobe. Along with many others on this thread, I'm on the peach-avoidance train, so I won't be introducing that any time soon. Or possibly ever. Current favorite item: very light & rather voluminous down coat that feels like walking around in a cozy black cloud. Perennial favorite: any one of my silk scarves, preferably square, preferably at least 30 inches (US). Among the most versatile & practical items in any wardrobe. I'm never without one, even if it's folded into a tiny square in my bag.

Sleeveless linen dresses and wide leg trousers in neutral colours because I live in a very warm climate. I also love vibrant colours and indian style embroidered and ornate clothes and gold or silver sandals, have tons of earrings and necklaces from decades ago and some vintage ones from my mother and aunts. I don’t know how to update but I love wearing this. I don’t understand new trends like showing your stomach, tucking half a shirt into your jeans or wearing pants 10 inches longer than your legs. 🤔 Loved your video! ❤

I live in a region where people rarely dress formally. The item I'm wearing the most this year is a pair of Democracy Ab-solution 5-pocket pants. They're 52% cotton blended with rayon, polyester, and spandex. The color is a neutral brown that looks great with every other color I own. The relaxed straight leg fits over boots and looks good with most shoes. They're a great business casual piece and alternative to jeans. I wear them with tucked-in pretty blouses and a shimmery belt, or with a cropped hoody sweatshirt and sneakers, and they work equally well for both looks. I usually keep clothes for many years, but will probably wear these out because I have to wash them so often.

Favorite item: an electric blue satin sleeveless top with a high neckline, that has two long strips of fabric that form a tie that drappes down from the front. I do have a lot of pieces I like a lot and the common theme for them is that they are nice on the skin, they communicate what I want in a given situation and they are in good condition. (And I sewed many of them myself, so they fit me better than many RTW clothes, due to my proportions.) My current favourite is a pair of sweatpants I sewed myself that has an interesting design detail (which I like). I also used a fabric with a print that's quite tongue in cheek (which I like for the situations I wear sweatpants in).

Favourite item currently, 1. A pair of black cotton poplin cargo pants with elasticize cuffs, 2. a long black, tailored, cashmere coat with a cut that flares from the waist, not straight, 3. Black el naturalista mid height boots with a rounded toe and slouchy look. I couldn’t pick one. 😅 I’ve been wearing these with a tailored or form fitting top to contrast the baggy pants and slouchy boots, and a black and white woven, wool shawl. It feels sort of Victorian/Matrix/80s/hippy/middle eastern 🤣 but I love it. I like to mix baggy and fitted, vintage and modern, and always something handmade to top off.
