+Classified. I absolutely love my job and the research I carry out now. My main focus is creating a digital education system for those with autism spectrum disorder. And I still love teaching, especially the insane kids I get now lol. I will likely go back to Japan and visit, cause there are so many friends I miss there and lots of food I need to eat again. But I don't think I'll go back to live there...I'm excited about my life right now, and ready to do things like have a family, keep on being a professor, etc.

I have to pause the video to make this comment, which I shall come back to edit if the need arises. Yes, peeps came to this channel for the J-vlogging. But, they stick around because they want to hear your perspective on...well, anything. Individual perspectives and all that. Tl;dr they come for Japan but stay for the person aka You.

I second this, we watch because we like your "brand" of content. If I was only here to learn about Japan then I'd probably have found a more popular channel and satiated my inner weeaboo. But you adequately differentiated yourself to make your channel, in my opinion, well worth watching, for informational content as well as all the silly karaoke and whatnot.

First, thank you for your videos teaching Japanese. You've been very helpful. And, then, thanks for this particular video. After spending a month in Japan, including some time studying and experiencing the language and culture of that country, I get where you're coming from in terms of the good things that we can learn from the Japanese people. I also like your very down to earth style. I feel that you are not putting on airs, that you're not fake, that if I were to be so fortunate as to sit down with you over a beverage, that the person you present on KZbin would be the person in front of me at the table. And genuine is best.

I feel very strongly on a lot of this, myself. Watching anime and studying and learning about Japanese culture has made me think about and appreciate things and people so much more. It's made me reflect on the effects that my own actions or words have. And it just blows my mind sometimes, how some people can be so inconsiderate and disrespectful. But it's also good to know that there are still kind, caring people out there, and I hope that starts to become more common again in time.

Long time no see. :) The students at the end reminded me of a time when I was in 3D animation school. This was a school specifically for 3D animation and visual effects (daveschool.com) but they had a guy come in to talk about 2D animation software, basically because he showed up at the door. Everyone there thought it was a complete waste of time since we never did 2D animation. So I can sort of see where the students were coming from. On the other hand when I went to a more general art school I had a strong feeling that doing any one kind of art can help you with other forms of art. So you never know, maybe what this guy was talking about might have been helpful, even if they didn't want to go into that field.

As someone who has lived in Japan I also feel I've changed. I felt your observations were very true to me as well, especially the part about the importance of time, as well as keeping stuff tidy, or making sure it looks nicely presented, or a task done with care. My wife whom I met there, carries this with her as well, she spends a lot of time doing things many would probably think is not practical, but I think it's important none the less. One thing that comes to mind that she does is that she says "good bye" to her old stuff when they have done their "job", like old shoes etc :)

+Christoffer Callegård haha, its true...I do find myself caring about inanimate objects more, as does my fiance...like when my moped got a flat tire, watching it get repaired, I cared like I would if a friend was in the hospital...I have no idea what part of Japan brings that on though, or if both your wife and I are minorly insane haha

Instead of making jvlogs and such, you could make videos comparing what you notice is different between the two cultures(like this video), on the differences between the two languages, and probably just about anything you can think of, such as vlogging, or other videos. I have seen your videos before, but I don't remember if I subscribed before today or not, but I can honestly say from the comments, that the people who actively watch you videos are looking for your perspective on things. I also thought that you were great at teaching kanji. It helped me a lot, since I have an understanding of Japanese grammar(I only need to look up particle usage because it's a very foreign to a native English speaker and there's plenty of them) and kana. I haven't watched all the videos yet, since they're longer videos. I hope that you're doing well!

While it never worked out I miss it at times and I would love to go back. It has been 2 and a half years maybe more since I visited. Nice to see you making a new video. Could you please do one about what changed for you when you went from "Teaching is great in Japan" to "Teaching sucks" in the two years?
@kawaiijutsu9 жыл бұрын
+John Smith I never thought teaching itself sucks...I teach now at university and I still love it. But the Japanese educational system has always had those problems...I never purported to say they didn't. I went into the JET program aware of those problems, but seeing them affect the students myself got to be a little rough. That's not to say nowhere else has its problems, but I think it's ridiculous how no one feels they can criticize Japan's education when tons of sources inside of Japan see it's failure rates, ESPECIALLY when you compare their English education to those of Korea and China.

The respect portion to teachers and providers is the notion I wish would transfer over here as I work in a college as IT to keep the campus going, but there is literally no respect or car for any of us that work there other than from the faculty themselves. It's rather depressing sometimes. On another note I had to point out I have the same pillow case. All the colorful stripes!

+TwiSteDCBloSsoM haha, i do like that pillowcase. I used to work for IT at UT Dallas too, and yeah, no one really knew we existed unless they needed help, which is normal. But then when they needed help, a lot were as rude as humanly possible.

Actually, because of finding your videos and certain conversation partners I met (all in the same semester of college), I submitted an application to JET this month. A lot of people automatically assume I think Japan is the holy land or something, that I think it's like in anime... I've studied abroad there already, as a trial before I decided to apply, and it was all as expected. I didn't choose Japan because of anime. Honestly, anime could have come from China and I wouldn't go there. I chose Japan for so many reasons, partly because of my veteran grandfather talking about it, partly because I enjoy the language and culture, etc, ad nauseam. Anime's a bonus. A lot of my expectations were tempered by the same people that showed me the path I'm choosing, you and my conversation partners from back then. I have you to thank, then, in part for the opportunity.

@nothanniballecktor96339 жыл бұрын
Then is there still a plan for what you're going to be doing in the future?
@kawaiijutsu9 жыл бұрын
+Paradox Planet Like I said at the start, I probably won't update KZbin much...I feel I don't have much to add when it comes to JVlogging anymore. If I want to talk about other things, I'd probably start a new channel that's dedicated to that, rather than making lots of people here unhappy by posting about unrelated things. My plan for the future is I currently work as a professor at UT Dallas, teaching design and photoshop and the like. I also conduct research on improving digital education, especially related to autism spectrum disorder. I wamt to continue on doing both of those things. I also do swing dance and kung fu, and want to have a family, etc. :P

So sad, seeing how far you've fallen, having to teach at STD, I mean UTD ;) Glad to see you back, are you transitioning into the computer world? I do admit, as a bicyclist, I like to drive with my windows down in my car. Even when I lived in Phoenix, and it was 110, I would have my windows down (and the AC on, I'm not that crazy) . Speaking of Phoenix, they only have 2 seasons, Hot and Gonna be Hot. You should post more, it took me a minute to figure out who kawaiijutsu was.,

+Popikawaii Not saying economics is my strong suit, or that I was going into a lot of details, but Japan isn't a country known for its abundance of natural resources. They import A LOT of things, and that is expensive.
@Popikawaii9 жыл бұрын
OMG! I watched all your videos a few years ago, and now I got a personal response! OMG! I'm so happy. :') For entertaining me through my Uni days, let me enlighten you with my economic sledgehammer. The cost of imported goods is irrelevant. They could assign lots of land for agriculture, at the cost of factories. However since their factories produce much more value per unit of work, it means that by importing food they can assign more people to work in sectors that produce more value than agriculture. That means that the value earned by keeping people in factories and importing food is a net positive value gain for society. Long story short, importing food creates wealth in Japan! M I N D B L O W N On a side note, most countries with an abundance of natural resources are quite poor ;-)
