I was in Chicago by myself on a work trip two weeks ago. I was walking by a theater and saw everyone lined up to see Hamilton. It was 40 mins til the show. I got on Ticketmaster and found one single seat on resale for $100 on the 3rd row!!! Grateful I was alone!

I think another great thing about traveling by yourself is that you are more aware of what is happening around you and you are living more in the moment than when you're traveling with somebody else. For example when you go to a stunning waterfall or the great barrier reef or whatever, if a person was traveling with you you would talk a lot and would not enjoy that very moment very much. So if you're by yourself i feel like you appreciate the things you see and experience more because you can really focus on them and nobody is distracting you. :)

Can you do a "staying safe while solo traveling" video? I've got my first solo trip coming up and I'm super excited but I am a little nervous too
@mariahjames21315 жыл бұрын
can you do a video for first time solo travelers? like first steps we need to take, how to prepare, what to look out for, how to know if a place is safe, recommended itineraries, etc..?
@kevlarcardhouse2525 жыл бұрын
#2 is the one that I agree with most. Especially as an early bird. I get so much more of the "things to do" crossed off my list in a city when I'm exploring it on my own, and also can bail if something ends up being boring to me. It works the other way too. If you burn out and just want to spend an afternoon at a park or cafe, or an evening just relaxing in your hotel room, you can do it without letting someone else down.

Yes I love the freedom of being alone, I was in Paris and saw a beautiful park and decided to go in and read a book for a few hours. Blissful. It’s definitely way more efficient to travel alone, so when I go to a place with lots to do I’d rather be alone, but if in a slower paced place like the mountains etc, I prefer being with someone. Definitely meet new people when alone, I usually sit at a table alone but have had long conversations with people at the next table - other solo travellers, families etc.

Omg I went to London in September and I went solo!!! Absolutely loved it! It’s true, you feel a big boost of confidence just being able to do things and figure out stuff on your on! I had an amazing trip and didn’t feel alone at all! Not having to worry about where others wanted to eat or go visit was amazing! I went where I wanted and ate where I wanted and loved it! #justdoit

Thank you so much, Allison. By saying that everyone at some point will make some kind of mistakes or wrong decisions, this video provides me enough confidence on my first road trip by my self. I find myself to be a strong, independent girl when I am in known surroundings, however this is fading as soon as I am at new places. Let known that you have had the exact same thoughts as me, gives me strength to face the trip of my life. Thank you, from Denmark 👍❤️

Oh no no don't be scared! Paris is my favorite city EVER - I've been there three times and twice COMPLETELY alone and I've never once felt unsafe or scared in that city. You'll see it's very easy to navigate. Just be vigilant on the metro (and everywhere) but as long as you're on top of it you'll be just fine. I hope you have most wonderful time there AHH I'm so excited FOR YOU!!! :D

I am loving your content! I watch some KZbinrs and I see so many repetitive cuts; their communication when speaking does not have an even flow as you do have shared in your videos. I have begun to watch all your videos as it has inspired me to speak in public as clearly as you do. Your smile, the way you carry yourself, your confidence...you do not need a ton of makeup either. It's very natural in how you present your content. LOVE IT! Much Mahalo, as I am living in Washington state (your home town)...

Love this! I have been traveling solo for many years, especially now that I am older, it gets harder to coordinate with family, friends, and significant other, due to different schedules, interests, and budget considerations. While I enjoy traveling with others, I make an effort for solo travel at least once a year. It's a great way to connect, reflect and take care of myself :)

I agree with all these points. I do the 2 meals a day when by myself too but sometimes I'm not so good at #4 (spending less money alone) because, with no one else around, I sometimes splurge on stuff that I wouldn't necessarily buy if someone else was there to witness it (like an expensive dessert, or a ridiculous souvenir that's not worth its price). But I LOVE the part about not having to worry what anyone else wants except for me. And if you are introverted like I am you really enjoy the quiet. Like when I did a 7 hour drive to another city, I listened to an audiobook for once and got super immersed in it. Nobody else in my family enjoys audiobooks so that was my only opportunity to listen for such an extended time without interruption. On solo trips I get to enjoy more introspective activities like journaling and yoga and meditation in the wee hours of the morning without worrying about waking up anybody else.

For me solo travel gives me time to think -- spending the entire day(s) with other people, I feel like I often don't have enough time to simmer with my own thoughts on what I'm experiencing, it just zooms by me a little more! But being alone offers that space to process what is going on around me :)

Great video! I agree with everything. I also realized traveling with a friend or travel buddy is a lot less stressful when you are in separate rooms. As much as you like that person, you still need your own space to decompress at night. That is how me and my travel friend do it. By the way I met her in Ireland and we became great friends and continue to travel together.

I would say traveling solo is less efficient because you end up paying by yourself just for yourself. While if you’re with someone else you can split everything 2 way or 3 way, such as housing, transportation etc. rather than picking up the full bill alone. It ends up being just a fraction. I do have to agree about meeting other people, that’s probably the only upside of traveling alone in my opinion.
@AnaPaula-ro6yo5 жыл бұрын
Whatever you decide to do in general you just do it, if you are with someone there is a time to adjust. It can be cheaper in the way you said but it can be cheaper because you may do things your way and this can be cheaper. Not eating in restaurants, not drinking alcahool, going for the good deals as you decide. Not going shopping, all possibilities it will depend on your travel friend

I really want to travel solo and am doing so now. HOWEVER, I have a TERRIBLE fear of a sudden medical issue in the middle of the night while by myself whether warranted or not. I remain tense all night until of even beyond dawn and this can magnify this fear even further. Rooms with outside hallways, don't help either. I really want to conquer this so I can get the best out of my trips. Could you deal with this and other trip related anxieties in a future video??

This sentence is not true, and it is unfair to say that because that makes everyone who does not have someone to share things in an specific time unhappy and unable to have a nice time alone. Sharing is awesone but not always availiable so being able to have a good time alone is a great thing to do for ourself.
