Yeah, I always used the layering technique you demonstrate here, but I was always frustrated because if I was too light the white of the paper would continue to show through. Yet, I didn't want to go too heavy because, one, it ruined the pale color I was looking for, and two, I hate when my drawing ends up with a slick, waxy surface. I'm thinking of investing in a blender pencil, like the one you're showing, do you think that will help me get the results I want?
@Grodman58 жыл бұрын
Sarah Coleman wrong pencil
@freshavocado63108 жыл бұрын
Sarah Coleman Actually my suggestion is to go with smoother paper. The whites show through because the paper is not thin enough for colored pencils, perhaps that kind of paper is better with watercolors and coal but not colored pencils. So try to get smoother paper.
@elenabeatricemartinelli84268 жыл бұрын
you probably need a smoother surface
@Grigeral7 жыл бұрын
A blender pencil will still give a slick, waxy finish as you are still burnishing the paper. There are a few things I find cause what you explain. First, the pencil isn't sharp enough. As a result, the pencil can't get in to the parts between the tooth so it can't provide a smooth finish. Always keep your pencils sharp. Second, the paper could be the wrong type. I tend to go for fairly smooth paper for pencils. Maybe a couple of steps above what I'd use for markers.
@uncledooley7 жыл бұрын
Sarah Coleman get a PRismacolor Blending MARKER, it doesn't burnish your paper and you don't get the shiny waxy appearance.
@elenabeatricemartinelli84268 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tutorial! I used the blender (the paper-layered one) in school but I acknowledged that it is not very appreciated within the community bc some people say it doesn't take a lot of practice and so I wanted to know other methods.

+Devyat nine yeah I think so too.
@terukisuke53247 жыл бұрын
Elena Beatrice Martinelli I've never heard of that kind of conflict before, so, pardon my rudeness, but whoever is telling you such things is a moron. For one, most people recommend the usage of tortillions with pencils in the first place instead of your fingers because the oils, which all artists (ALL of them) use at some point or another. It is just another tool to use in the art studio to save time, so it is simply the smart and time-shortening way. Pay them no mind because whoever says something like that is ignorant to what art is. It's not about it being easy or hard, it's about having the best possible execution of your work. If a tortillion can get you there, you damn well use it. If they're providing constructive criticism, like suggesting easier/alternative tools, that is fine, but condemning a tool made for art is... blasphemy. Okay, rant over. I got a bit carried away, but I hope I encouraged you a little. ^^;

In my opinion, Prisma colored pencils are better compared to Crayola and other colored pencils brands. They're smooth, clearly visible and pressure-sensitive to make shading easier, and they blend very well also. This is just my opinion when choosing a brand, only downfall is, is that they're a little more expensive than the more known brands like Crayola, but mostly because they're better quality. I'm just going to leave this here.
