5 ways to Create a Hygge Home | Redecorating our living room | Cosy Scandinavian home in lapland

We have been redecorating our living room, implementing Hygge decor. Hygge is defined in the oxford dictionary as a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture). A Hygge lifestyle is not exclusive to Danish people. Many Scandinavian countries, including Sweden, incorporate Hygge. Swedish people, however, use the term Mys instead of Hygge. I hope you enjoy this video where I'll be sharing 5 different ways in which I love to bring more Hygge into my home.

Hey everyone, my name is Naomi 👋
In summer 2020, amidst a global pandemic, My husband and I uprooted our lives in Central London and decided to move to Northern Sweden.
We were fed up of living on top of millions of other people in London, living out of one room in a flat shared with Naomi's parents, all whilst studying, working, creating KZbin content and launching our business.
So we bought a car, packed it full of our belongings, and drove nearly 3000km to Sweden with no idea where we were going to live.

I live in Denmark 🇩🇰 and we also practice Hygge, it’s such a cozy feeling that has no direct translation in English. The pronunciation of the "y" in "mys" (noun: coziness), "mysig / mysigt" (adjective: cozy) and "mysa" (verb: to have a cozy time) is not "è" but rather a long and rounded "iih" sound if that makes sense. The following are not genuine phonetic transcriptions, but try to think "miihs", "miihsi't" and "mihsa" (also, the s shound should be no voiced as in "z" but a voiceless s). :-) Love your English-style chimney-piece, btw. These are not very common in Sweden.

Are you guys doing any Swedish lessons or just reading up on it? The pronunciation is a bit tricky for English speakers when it comes to the sound that you guys don't have (å, ä, and ö being the most common examples), but then again, most of us mess up in the reverse. My husband said it's been a "wery vhite vinter" the other day and I constantly get "chair" and "share" mixed up!!! Hahahhaa
