Hi Sonia! I can't thank you enough for all your wonderful podcasts. You have really helped me to confidently homeschool my child without feeling like I'm doing something wrong or not doing enough! I especially loved this podcast. My husband and I recently moved our five children to Fiji, where we are originally from , from Australia where we lived for 16 years. The one challenge I've found in homeschooling in Fiji is that it is very hard to come by good living books and ordering them online would cost you an arm and a leg🤦🏽♀️ because we live away from the mainland and are living off grid. But I've found that the local Op shop/ second hand / thrift stores have become my saving grace! I have found many wonderful living books there and we now have quite a collection. So I would highly recommend thrift stores, especially if you live on a small island with no bookstores and a very small library and bad internet connection. Thanks for all the great tips 😁...Joni

I have checked out several of the sites mentioned here. A bit of advice- Thrift Books on Ebay a lot of times will have free shipping, whereas they charge shipping through their regular site.

If you purchase $10 worth of books on their website, you have the option for free media mail shipping. :) Plus you can earn free books through their rewards program, which I've been able to do a few times myself.

Do you know if Charlotte Mason ever said anything about the writings of George MacDonald? They were contemporaries and his books seem to fit her definition of living books.

I have someone with a particular interest and am having trouble finding good books one easier than the other and would appreciate any help, advice, suggestions. The topics are (1) color -- how we see them, what creates them, theories and much harder (2) latest info on how the brain works, i.e neuroscience

It’s strange. Our local libraries no longer allow selling old books. Who knows what they do to them 😢

That is very interesting! There are many used book sites online now, some titles that come through these used book sites do have library marks on them, so hopefully they are still reselling them just in new ways!
