Smart. Most college courses aren't longer than 45 - 50 minutes of actual lecture time, unless you're taking condensed classes. Your approach is plenty of preparation as they move towards higher education. 😊

How does the concept of keeping your schedule fresh by changing it up coincide with the idea of habits and routine? It seems like it would cause a lot of extra mental effort instead of sticking to the “rails” you’ve laid down already.
@SimplyCharlotteMason5 жыл бұрын
It depends on how detailed you want to be with your habits. You would definitely want to have the routine/habit in place that “We do school at this time every day,” but you could tweak the order in which you do your subjects during that school time if you want to. Each family needs to make that decision for itself.

My son is going into 7th grade, and I can't get him to stay focused for anything. He's fine with reading. A bomb could go off, and it wouldn't distract him. But ANYTHING else, writing, math, discussion, etc., he's all over the place. He's got an incredible imagination, but it takes him so long to complete a lesson that should only take 10-15 minutes. It drives me crazy! How can I get him to stay focused on what he is doing?
@SimplyCharlotteMason4 жыл бұрын
You may need to do some focused work on the habit of attention. Here are some ideas: - Have him work on his assignments in the same room as you so you can make sure he stays on task. - Set a timer for the lesson and let him know that if he gives his full attention, he will be done when the timer dings. But if he doesn't give his full attention to the lesson, he will have to make up the time later after normal school time. - Keep in mind Charlotte Mason's advice that, when the child is having trouble focusing on a lesson, put it away and do something else as different as possible to give his brain a chance to reset. Once you've completed a different lesson or chore, come back to the lesson that was giving trouble. Hope that gives you some ideas! Needed to hear this one today! Question...If I didn't get my Charlotte Mason Curriculum until the beggining of October...where do I start my Term 1?? Do I just start with lessons 1 and carry on my school year until we finish all the books and lessons? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I started my eldest this year at age 7 with 1st grade using the Charlotte Mason Curriculum and I'm trying to organize our schedule and not get overwhelmed with my first year. Autumn Blessings, Rosalie

Yes, just start from the lesson 1! You might double-check the homeschool laws in your state, but most states allow you to set your own school term, provided you do lessons a certain number of days out of the year. If your school year is in different months than the public school system, don't worry about it. What's important is to progress through the lessons at a steady, unhurried pace to allow plenty of time for the child to make his or her own personal connections with the material.

Dear Sonya. My daughter in law decides to homeschool their children and she chooses to use Charlotte Mason's as it is based on the Bible. Now she joins the Charlotte Mason's Homeschooling in Bali and they meet regularly to discuss how they should apply the lessons. Sometimes they are not sure if they understand what you are talking about, so she asked me to translate it for them. I wonder if I can get your permission to put Indonesian subtitles on your videos so that others can get benefit from it as well.
@SimplyCharlotteMason3 жыл бұрын
Titien, how wonderful that your daughter has a small community in Bali! Thanks for asking about translating our videos! We have all of our videos on KZbin set to allow community contributions-this means that anyone can provide subtitles to translate the videos into another language. That is our preferred way for someone to translate our videos. To add a translation to a video, follow these steps: 1. Find the video you want to translate. Here's our KZbin channel where you can see all of our videos: kzbin.info/door/oypxwrNeBaNSEUFHyFuXpQ 2. On the video page, click on the three dots to the right of the video title: 3. Click on "Add translations": 4. Click on the "Switch language" link: From there, you can choose the language you want to provide subtitles for. You should then see a transcript of all the spoken words in the video, with a text box under each to write the translation. When you're done, click on the blue "Submit contribution" button to send the translation to SCM for review.

@@SimplyCharlotteMason This is great. When I told this good news to my daughter, she was very excited as well. But then there is a little problem. When I tried to do the step-by-step you told me, I could only see two options (report and open transcript). There was no "add translation" menu. Can I get a help about this please? I'd appreciate it so much. God bless
@SimplyCharlotteMason3 жыл бұрын
@@titienwahyuni4554 So sorry about the confusion. It looks like KZbin has now removed the community translations option. There's not currently a way for someone to add translations to a video.
