As a novice to landscape design, can someone suggest an online course or 101 basics to landscape design? Ive been a landscaper for many years, so I have experience with landscape plans and executing the plans to the finest detail. After discovering this channel I decided to grab my first iPad and try out Morpholio for landscape design. Im starting my own company so id like a better understanding with planning and designing. And potentially even start designing on my own. And Ive found your videos here to be very helpful and inspirational

Quick question. Do you think it would be a good idea to get project management certification, or take CAD classes before entering my LA Bachelors? I'm expecting a year gap between my Community College and State College, so I have time to pick up some extra classes at my CC. I have lots of previous experience from a Graphic Design degree, so I'm already handy with 3d modeling and other computer drawing programs.

I'm finding that design firms are not asking for portfolios but asking to send them 5 or 10 images of my work. What's the strategy to respond? Landscape designers and urban designers have all sorts of material: site analysis, concept diagrams, program diagrams, master plans, planting plans, renders, GIS suitability analysis, etc. For some projects, I have a dozen images that span site analysis, to concept, master plan, plant selection, and planting plans. Do I look for the best five photorealistic renders? Show a planting plan that displays my knowledge? A few diagrams to demonstrate analytical thinking? One of everything to show my range? Help.

I too struggled with this an had literally no idea what work samples was compared to the portfolio when I was applying for new jobs. In my understanding work samples are a shorter version of the portfolio and are meant to focus more on the work you have completed, so maybe details, or plans that showcase you know what you are doing. But honestly still unsure, I ended up just submitting my portfolio to the places that asked for work samples because I just had no idea what it was and couldn't find anything on the topic
