Agree with you: I also prefer listening to podcast, than listening to music. Because music can me strange, and not all the time it is educative. Podcast are usually well structured, they expose and are related to a theme, and 10 mins of a good podcast contains so many words that you end up learning a lot of vocabulary and understanding.

I learn english since i really was a kid but i never take it seriously & also i didn’t practice my listening nor speaking. I only knew the most basic words like “thank you” “yes” “no” “maybe” and the name of colors, days, etc. Then when i was in 9th grade, i have an iphone in which i could use it to watch a KZbin videos. And i watch mylifeaseva, alisha marie, mamamiamakeup (yeah good old days, isn’t it?😭). And i also watch ted talk occasionally. But because i can’t understand them, i put it in a loud speaker and i tried my best to focus. The more focus i was, the more i was able to listen clearly. And i spent a year listening to ppl. And tadaa!!🎊 In 10 grade i’m able to listen without having to focus that much. I don’t really remember the exact long of period but i think it’s 1 year. Also because i didn’t take it as an actual learning it was just for fun😂 As for speaking, i’m still struggling but i think it has been improved.

IMHO, if you want to learn vocabulary the best thing is to use short videos like bloopers, which are from 2 to 5 minutes long. You can use one of those videos and analyze word by word. If you want to improve your general comprehension pick long audios, such as podcasts, or an episode of your favorite series. With long audios focus on the general message, with short audios is different, you have to study carefully everything.
