great advice ...preventive maintenance ; never really thought about it with trail cams...but makes incredible sense..

This video helped me avoid a headache. One of my cameras "bricked" about a week after I deployed it this summer. Recalling the info in this video I did some quick troubleshooting and inspection, then downloaded new firmware. Problem solved! Thanks for great info and I look forward to adding an Exodus camera to my arsenal soon.

Another tip I do every couple times I get my cameras inside is put a drop of soap on the lens, then wipe it off with a micro fiber cloth. That makes it so that morning condensation doesn't stick to it. Try use one that isn't too smelly to stop animals getting spooked by the very "human" smell of soap.

I use a tote with rice in it to store them in.

What about contacts for the cards? Some of my cameras do not recognize that a card has been inserted.

if a cam is working fine, why update the firmware? i know, they release updates all the time, to fix issues, etc. but, if one's cam is not having any issues and is working just fine, there's really no need to keep updating the firmware, i wouldn't think. i've even read instances where people's cams started having problems AFTER they updated firmware. again, i've never, ever updated any of my cams firmwares. i suppose doing so could possibly improve something or other, but i'm more of the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' kind of guy.

There are certain scenarios where bugs in firmwares could eventually cause that camera to freeze, or brick. In that case if you don’t update the firmware the camera won’t power on and then you won’t be able to update the firmware that would have prevented that from happening. With our cameras we won’t issue firmware updates unless there are key issues that need fixed.
