Keep all your tax returns until you have verified your social security account so if your record is wrong you have your returns to bring in to them Keep at least one bill for all your credit cards so you have record when you get a copy of your credit report you will find a lot of old credit card numbers and if you don't have at least one statement you can't verify it was your account. Keep your recorded deed and mortgage document and your closing statement. That statement is your part of your cost basis. If you pay off your mortgage make sure you get a recorded release of mortgage. Keep your insurance policies. Make sure beneficiaries know where they are along with all your important documents are.
