Military is probably the easiest and fastest way to get into cyber security, I literally know individuals that have degrees in unrelated fields, but did 4-8 years in the military doing jobs unrelated to cyber but getting picked up by top tier companies like GDIT, Raytheon, and even Other contracting companies. This is mainly because they have veterans preference, a TS/SCI, and they get eligibility for most of these jobs.

well you have to consider the four years they spend in the military, and it is really only good for the DoD. Finance and Health fields are industries that people overlook a lot

It is honestly so overwhelming to find resources. I have wasted so much time on crappy resources I was told were excellent, but taught me nothing! I really hope this helps because I feel stuck in my learning process.

@@nicoleenesse finding a job in cybersecurity is the biggest frustration. I have applied for many and got rejected on all applications for a cyber security analyst . I have tweak my resume and I have had a friend that works in cyber security look at it and he said it looks fine. I have no work experience in cybersecurity

Don’t feel discourage, I have a masters degree in cyber security, Security +, and a Top Secret clearance but still can’t even get a job in cyber security. I’m applying for cybers security analyst jobs and even basic help desk jobs and getting turned down

@@johnwale5951 they don’t want to pay you what you’re worth, in the dmv area you can get around 75K+ on average for an entry lvl job, but when you have a degree and you going to these companies already with a clearance and security + you can ask for more. I know companies that sponsor people for a clearance and pay for security + training but they low ball employees on pay. If you’re already going to an organization with something whether it’s a clearance, degree, some experience, or even a cert you can ask for more. Most of these contracting companies favor military because they get funding for them from the government. Rarely do companies wanna give ppl a shot especially if you asking for a certain pay for an entry lvl job

Army strong! I'm Air Force btw and we do chose what we will be doing in most cases unless you come in open general.

I love how you compared degrees to the caste system. I definitely noticed that working in insurance. Some employers won’t hire or promote you even if you’ve been working in the field for nearly 10 yrs but they’ll let someone else that has no insurance background and a degree in an unrelated field advance.

I'm just started studying at a university for a cybersecurity degree. I have to take all programming courses before getting into actual cybersecurity courses. I don't like coding I noticed. Do you think it would be smart to start doing some of the Google Certificates, and other sources you have mentioned, and possibly start working before I graduate?

I have no IT background but I'm going to sign up to a nearby training centre for a certificate in IT security and cyber crime,what do you think? Well for the certificate in IT security, it can be helpful but keep in mind how much it cost. You coul self study Security+ pretty easily, and take and fail the exam 3 times and it be around 1,000. So not sure of you budget/ goals/ experience level. The cert could be useful if it is at a local community college and is affordable. They usually also have a ton of resources also.

CYSA+ is only a small part of Cyber, but you will be way ahead of the game

So I don't have a degree but my job goal is to be a SOC analyst. I was going to get Sec+, Cysa+, pentest+ and the CCNA. You could do it way sooner than 2 years! Securty + & CYSA+ should be sufficient enough to land a job. Aim for one year

Hey Brandon! I'm in the same boat as you right now. I was advised against getting ITF+ and A+ since those certs are mainly for help desk and not for cybersecurity. I would start off by getting Security+ first.
