Words of wisdom you speak. It’s ridiculous how much it takes to get it working but your one of the first to acknowledge this fact . 👽

Love your Multiclock video!!! Knowone else knows how to make a full one like this. Q: i can never get a midi keyboard to work with the midi in on the multiclock. Could you do a small video in depth for just this?? Anyone, good job bro!

Ableton has an audio sync follow function now. I wonder if you can send an audio pulse from the ERM to one of the channels on your interface to sync Ableton to the hardware.

I wonder how that works. I wonder if it’s like the roland follow option from their machines. Roland just kills midi protocol and just sync follows

It does not work because the multiclock can only receive audio, not send it. Also that would lead the purpose of the multiclock ad absurdum. The whole point of getting the multiclock is it's ability to get a tight sync of your external gear with Ableton as MASTER. That's why it also does not make any sense to connect the multiclock via USB. The inherent problem is that the midi protocol has an extrem low priority in both Windows and MacOS (mac is a fair bit more stable though in my expierence). Audio is of extreme high priority though and that's where the multiclock comes in. By generating midi, dinsync and analog clock from this very audio signal coming from Ableton. For me the whole purpose of the multiclock is to get recordings perfectly aligned with the beat grid so that chopping and editing audio always gives you perfect loops. I also prefer to have Ableton as my master because even though I have a lot of outboard synths and eurorack I prefer having all my (time based) effects in Ableton. I prefer to have control over all effects in the mixing process and not having them baked in in the recording stage. Espescially with Delays it's very preferable for me to sync their divisions with the host DAW. Also a quick tip from my side: I am also a DJ and i was always wondering how I could sync my Eurorack with CDJs. I saw that ALM busy curcuits were working on a device to make that happen couple of years ago but the product was never released. I cam up with a pretty easy and straight forward solution that works perfectly for me. I just took the sync sample that ERM provide and looped it so I would have an hour long sync track. Then you just flag it with the correct BPM, in my case 120bpm cause that is Ableton's default setting. Then you just play whatever track you wanna play on one deck and the sync track on the other. The deck with the actual music playing will be the master and the deck with the sync track will be slaved to it. Then you just use the left output of this deck straight into the multiclock and that's it. My Eurorack sequencers will then perfectly follow the bpm of the music I'm playing with the CDJ. Maybe it's a bit of special use case but I thought it could be interesting for some :)

@@MayenMusic Interesting. The new CLOCKstep:MULTI can both follow audio sync at 24 PPQN and send its own audio sync at 24 PPQN as well. I wonder if that'll work with Ableton audio sync? I'll have to give it a shot some time.

anyone use this as a masterclock WITHOUT the daw? plenty of hardware machines/hardware sequencers have some not very tight timing as well, not to mention some instruments could benefit from some swing...

I do and it helps, I use Octatrack as the master to the Multiclock and then to other hardware synths

Indeed, for us we use it to drive 2 x TR8s and 2 x MC707s, these then have sub synths daisy chained from their MIDI 5 pin outputs. We have this other clock from Mindburner with a bright oldskool red LED number display that shows bpm + 1 simple control pot (this is for controlling the ERM master clock, because it's seperate and easier than faffing with the menu to change the master bpm on the ERM unit itself). The advantage here is that the parent modules (the TR8s and 707s) can be start/stopped independently in the live scenario and scheduled to start on the next measure down beat (if your timing is slightly out, it compensates - as long as you start it before the downbeat*)

So when recording multiple synths in as audio at once always has timing issue. They have to mess with latency settings, track delay or midi offsets settings after calculating each devices latency thru recording a pulse. Does the ERM clock offset parameters allow you to find each devices latency and set it and forget it once and never have recording audio timing issues again?
@MayenMusic
@MayenMusic Жыл бұрын
couple of things, the ERM Multiclock doesn't solve recording latency issues. That is more on your computer and DAW. This machine helps you to clock different machines to the master. you can offset different channels

@@MayenMusic So I thought you can send midi note date from your DAW via USB the the ERM and out to your hardware synths. I was told it won’t do this. Is this true? I’m getting crazy conflicting answer on this. I want to record midi in my DAW with a controller. Then play the midi out of my DAW into ERM to the Synths to keep them locked in perfect with the DAW. Looks like your doing this which is what I was told it can’t go from 3 sources. I’m so confused.

@@MayenMusic I am beyond frustrated. I use Ableton and logic. I have to run threshold at 5. its super delicate. the play and stop buttons are of no use. right when the multi clock gets the desired signal from plug in, it turns green channel lights to red, and is locked into "clock running" mode. 1 out of 20 times it actually takes my control, and works. the other 19 times it does what it wants, or nothing. audio in 8/8 4/4 machine mode Neg/Pos free W. off remote off audio threshold 05 I basically left everything factory. everyone says how rock solid this gear is.the times I have brainwashed it to work, it wasn't all this. never really locked. I realize this is user error. but come on!! I have been battling this thing 4 hours a day. for 3 months. ERR is showing up at any opportunity. the bpm will be 114. multi clock shows it at 224. or 84. sometimes it starts on its own when my DAW isn't even on. I have 2 turntables and 2 CDJ 2000 nexus connected to rane rotary DJ mixer. Rane DJ mixer to Scarlet 4i4(again, garbage) line input on front. Scarlet via USB in to 2020 MacBook Pro. was using Logic. moved over to Ableton 11. I still prefer Logic for producing. so now I use Ableton in order to run Plug In. (Keep in mind, I don't use Multiclock for Production. my intent is to use it for live performance. as in...sync up eurorack and outboard gear to DJ turntables/CDJ) line out #3 from Scarlet to Muticlock audio in. Line #1 and #2 from scarlet go to Roland MX- 1 mixer. eurorack and other outboard gear also go to Roland(not enough outs or ins) studio monitors are fed by Roland . outs 1-4 on multi clock clock whatever needs to be synced with live DJ....sending audio to Ableton. fuck. I can't believe I just typed all that.. firmware is updated. and thank you for reading

@@jake000916 Hi, I only use machine mode on POS. I rarely trigger any machines with the channel button. One thing to keep in mind is the way that midi is synced in each machine. I feel taht your dj setup should be the master and not go through Ableton. Is there a way for the Rane to generate tone from one of the outputs? My audio Threshhold is 07 in the setup menu. I think that if you are able to bypass your computer it will work better. how are you sending signal to your modular synth?

@@MayenMusic wait..I can bypass the DAW? generate tone? you have my full attention. can you clarify? I also have a Denon X1850prime which has midi out. sending signal. that's another area that is confusing me.. I don't understand when I should be using the DIN or MIDI. isn't MIDI sent through a DIN plug? wtf? also..if im sending clock to say....DFAM using adv/clock...do use the MIDI out connected to a patch cable adapter? or DIN out to an adapter? or do I sue this modular Whip thing I bought? wait wait...lets not forget the channel one 1/4" out...

USB and midi shouldn't really be used for clock sync, use the audio input.
