Agreed. This is what I've been looking for too. Most vids show the attenuator ADJUSTED for the video playback, so you get no sense of what difference it makes. Pretty sure I'm sold on the Captor now. Thanks Leon.

Thank you for this great video! I really enjoyed it! I just got one of these and have had a little bit of time to record a 6505 MH and a Triple Rectifier. How are you using IRs to it running 4CM? I’m using a Helix running into a Peavey XXX, torpedo captor, and then my interface. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to run IRs to it through the line out. Every time I switch off the guitar cab option and try using IRs through my DAW or Helix, I only get the usual hissy no cab connection sound.

Please help a newbie out: I have a Combo Amp (fender BJ) an Audio interface (2 input) and a Mic. Does it make sense to combine this with the Captor or would the mic be redundant then? One way I thought about is miking the attenuated channel through one input and use the output from captor as a second input for my interface and blend both channels. Does that make sense? Thanks!

Great vid, thanks! I've been back and forth deciding on the Captor or the C.A.B. For direct recording from preamps alone, or integrating the power amp into direct recording, which adding tubes should be nice. Bummer it's not stereo, though I guess I could buy two. :)

Is the attenuation variable? I thought the front panel knob sets the attenuated level to the speaker cabinet. Is that not right, or is it a fixed -20dB from that one -20dB 1/4" jack?
@DelReiRock

Nice man!! I noticed that your IR of greenbacks had less gain that the GTR output from the Captor. Is it right or you changed the knob gain in the demos? I am using Helix Native with Logic Pro and no matter what I do I still feel that my 'amps' sound fizzy and artificial. I have some nice amps but they seldom work their way into my home studio recordings. If I were to use the TwoNotes with a real amp going into my DAW, and then use the DAW (with Helix Native) to add effects, would it sound considerably better and get me back that analog amp sound that I am missing?

Ok, I need help here. I use a Plexi full up, I go out of the -20dv to one speaker cab. How do I connect from the Captor to take a line level signal to other pedals then to a separate amp. Granted I dont use the thru, too loud, but want a wet dry setup using the cranked Plexi sound. Kinda like a slave out, but my amp does not have that.

For a wet/dry or W/D/W setup I'm guessing? You should be able to run the thru output to your speaker cab but then take the loaded down signal to your pedals

@@LeonTodd Yes. the line out TRS is not going to work due to noise. I figured out how to do it. XLR to TS 1/4" cable or adapter to drive into the FX, then out to another amp or power amp into speakers. So my Germino is the tone of the entire thing So the dry would be out the back of the Captor -20db speaker output... Problem solved. Bad news though, I just smoked my OT and sending it to Germino to repair. I had mismatch impedance and the Captor was not running with power so that fan wasnt kicking in... and yes I play my JMP style full up, Cream style. Non master volume. Nothiing sounds as good so I dont mind getting output/power tubes every 6 months. The sound is worth it. My rig will sound awesome...once I get it fixed LOLOLOL NOTE: during troubleshooting I connected everything PROPER, but the damage was already done to the OT and Captor. The 2nd time I replaced cooked 3A fuse, As soon as I bashed a cord, flames shot out the front of the Captor.... its done New Captor coming, and hopefully new fix to my main amp.... LOL

Hey Leon, Just picked one of these up yesterday. When recording to use impulse responses, are you recording a clean/distorted amp signal from the 1/4" out on the captor into your interface then DAW, or from the DI XLR out with no cab emulation? I recently received my captor. I am connecting it from a 65amps London pro out (8Ohm) to the captor, then taking it from the captor line out to a mooer radar speaker sim pedal. My intention is to use it with headphones. The problem is that there is a very loud hum that starts as soon as I power the amp on and continues after stby. There is some guitar signal but is very dim compared to the hum. I checked if the mooer radar is faulty, but it works with my pedals without the noise. The London pro has no noise at all when used with speaker cab. Any ideas of what may be wrong?

There's the Fletcher/Munson effect at play (the human ear detects highs and lows differently at different volumes) with attenuation like that so it's hard to tell. It does sound different to turning the amp master volume down though, which is the point of using an attenuator I guess.

I have a radicle idea and maybe you can tell me if it's impossible or not. So I have a line6 Powercab and I have a tube head that's way too loud for home use. If I plug my amp into the captor then run the dry signal out (like I would if running into a daw) but instead I run it into the Powercab. Allowing me to have the speaker sims/volume control of the Powercab. Seems like it could work.

Hi good video but i not understand the wet/dry/wet way...Please reply with you all chain... Thanks
@LeonTodd

Basically you can run three cabinets this way; the center cabinet is the dry guitar signal while the outer cabinets are "effected signal" only. E.g Guitar - Amp - Captor Captor line level out - stereo fx - stereo power amp - two cabinets Captor "thru" sends the dry signal from the head to the center cabinet

I received one today and I must say I am very disappointed. There's a hissing/buzzing sound and the sound of my amp is hugely altered. I'll return it.

I don’t have one but was thinking about it. How’s your ground situation? Are you plugged into the same outlet as your recording gear? I heard if your not it can create a ground problem.

@@anthonygrilli4919 I tried both settings : same ground and distinct ground. The humming/hissing sound was always there and the sound was terrible. I returned it. I'm going to take a Power Attenuator 100 by Plug and Play (handmade in France : www.plugandplay-amp.com/Pages/FR/PA100.html) or a Fryette Power Station II. Those are the two best options to me. I've heard the Suhr Reactive Load IR is good but I don't like Suhr overall (although their products are of top notch quality).
