Dr. Andy Galpin may contradict a lot of what is said here, in that as long as total calorie intake is equated, it doesn't matter if you are burning fat or carbs. burning fat does not equal losing body fat. burning more calories total gives the opportunity to create a deficit. the substrate we burn is dependant on energy demand in healthy people.
