One of the things I have on my workbench that I haven't really seen before is a French cleat on one side. Then I can easily swap out what is stored there depending on what I need, e.g can have the clamps there during gluing, then swap to my sanding gear when it's sanding time, then rubbish bin for cleanup, etc. To me, dynamic storage like that feels like the whole point of something like French cleats, so I'm surprising I haven't really seen it around much.

Great video Matt as always I’m hoping to start building myself a workbench here in the next few weeks and I really love your bench I just need to incorporate my DeWalt job site table saw into my bench so I can have an out feed table when cutting stuff. Just need to decide what to do on the top tee track or dog holes ? But I really like that mat you add to the top of your bench definitely going to look into one of them.

Hockey pucks are also great as an anti vibration interface between your air compressor and concrete floor when you're bolting it down. Power tip time: freeze the hockey pucks for at least 24 hours before drilling the bolt hole in it. If not, the rubber won't cut near as clean and might even catch the bit and get dangerous. Freezing makes the puck very hard and easy to drill through.

My shed is a 10x12 and most of my tools will be along the 12 length. The 10 ft length will be more mobile station. Now with all this said my mobile workbench would be either a 3x5. Should I look at making it bigger cuz I like yours is big. Any thoughts 💭 ❤❤❤

I've watched many of your videos and I've noticed one common trait of yours. You love to say "it is very reasonably priced" or "they're cheap." NOTHING lately is reasonably priced and more than that, cheap. Woodworking is fun, but it is, above all else, very expensive. Own it. Your shop is probably worth $100,000. That said, you make an entertaining and knowledgeable video. Thanks.

As a long time fan, I also feel like the videos are becoming more and more about products you can get and less about things you can do. I opened this hoping to see a bunch of small tricks and jigs to make, not stuff to buy. I understand that as a content creator there needs to be a balance and I'm happy to watch product recommendations (and buy them from your links, whenever I can) to enjoy the rest of your content, but it feels like there is less and less "rest of" the content and it's all product lists. It would be nice to have a mix of both on the videos

A much cheaper (almost free) option for the paint cones is to cut small scraps of wood & either pound a skinny nail or drive a screw through the middle. You can just set them on your workbench & lay your workpiece on the tips of the nails/screws. Works like a charm. I used some wood from my large scrap collection & several screws for mine. I would recommend using the same length nails or screws, just to make sure they will hold things level. You can even make larger ones with more than 1 screw/nail in each if you like. If you are concerned about piercing yourself with the point while you work, just file it down a bit to dull it. I think I made about 35, virtually for free since I already had all the supplies, but I suppose you could count the few bucks I'd paid for the screws. Still dirt cheap & they didn't take long to make at all. Just an additional idea. Thanks for all the suggestions. Hope you have a great day!

I'm reading some of the comments and people are asking about the type of content that has now become synonymous with 731. The truth is, we have to look at it from the perspective of the content creator. Build videos may have been the main craze let's say 10 years ago. But as time progressed, KZbin and many other platforms have become saturated with this content, and consequently viewership per video tends to drop, which is not ideal for the content creator. After all, as much as they may love the artform, it's still a business at the end of the day. Therefore, you may have noticed a lot of KZbin Woodworking channels have followed the metrics and branched out their content. That's a business decision, and we have to respect that. Some have gone into tips and tricks videos. Some into jigs and stuff. Some into tools and reviews. Some into teaching the basics. Some into restoration projects. And some still do project builds. Some of us may indulge in one or the other, while others, like me, would love all of them for the various aspects that they cover. Truth is, there is a plethora of all types of content across the Woodworking Community. We just have to respect each one for what it is, and each creator for their decision in direction. And I'm sure among them all, we can find enough content that'll satisfy any niche we're looking for. So thank you Matt, for the type of content that you create. Keep doing what you do brother! And keep using your medium to spread the gospel in the process.

I have the Rockler T-track clamp and like it. However, since I'm a cheapskate, I made my own. I took a scrap piece of plywood, traced the Rockler profile, cut out multiple pieces on the bandsaw, made the elongated slot, added a Toilet bowl flange bolt, washer, and homemade nut. They have been working great for more than 7 years. If I accidentally cut into them, I don't care since they won't damage my blades.

So, instead of quoting brandnames, tell us, is it T19 or T30 track? Dog Hole benchtops: Making your own, 19mm or 20mm holes,, and why?. I have only ever seen one doghole accessory that was only available in 20mm size. Dovetail slots: a poor mans version of T-Track, I have mental pictures of that dovetail groove breaking out if the resident clamp is set too tight

More evidence that the primary function of the work bench is as a clamp/clamping base. For organization, though, the Harbor Freight storage boxes are as good as any other at 1/4 the price. Seriously, unless your habit is to throwing them against concrete walls, HF are great.

My observation with T-track- really good for holding stuff horizontally but vertically, it’s regretful. It pulls up etc. I put t-track but am going to be putting in a few dog holes for that vertical holding.

My workbench has a "T" track, table saw, a panel comes out to set my miter saw and it's level for long stuff, another panel comes out for my planer so it sets flush for an outfeed table. Has 3 electric boxes to plug into. Getting ready to add a router inset with lift. 9 drawers to store most used stuff.Has 6 wheels that lock so i can move it anywhere or load it in my enclosed trailer.

as a beginner wood worker i have found the HF small parts cases a do very well . i know a lot of people dont like HF tools BUT i dont have problems unless i use some ( electrical mostly) every day or all day long ! i have broke a couple of the quick clamps but the bar clamps and f style seem ok! POWER strips get the 4ft 12 outlet if you have room some of mine are several years old and going fine, they also have a set that have magnets to hold them on more expensive but nice, i also like their 1250lum rechargeable work light with power bank , it just has a kick stand but also a 1/4-20 tread hole that you could put on a tripod my work table is an adjustable writhing table right now will have to make something more solid once i get the shop finished out and figure out places for stuff, it works good as an outfeed table or drop it down to put a project on down low !mine is electric so moves from one height to another quickly. Great tips will need to pick up some for my shop(when its finished)!!!!!!! love the rubber mat on the table i keep a rubber entry mat to put down when i work on the floor saves the knees!!!! AS ALWAYS GREAT TIPS AND VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use some HF stuff. I grabbed a couple rechargeable work lights. They will receive a 1/4-20 screw. I grabbed a couple of old camcorder tripods at a thrift store. I made a do-dad out of maple, to fit the tripod mount, since I don't have a 3D printer. I can set a light where ever I want.

Traditional workholding with Holdfasts is quicker and more versatile than anything IMHO. I am a hybrid woodworker and the discovery of Holdfasts changed the game with power and handtools.

Lee Valley sells grip discs for hockey pucks which turns your pucks into awesome bench cookies for very cheap. I made 12 and the size and weight is much better than Rockler's IMO

Your small parts organizer boxes in the center look just like mine...random washers, screws, miscellaneous other products, and the overspill from when you forget to fasten the closures prior to picking up and moving said box. It's all a sign of a busy craftsmen. Carry on my friend!

Holdfasts, at least a quality holdfast, are so fast and effective. You will see them on hand tool oriented shops, which I am guessing most of your subscribers are not. But they are worth taking a look at.

I used 1/2" plywood to create french cleats on the ends and back of my bench. I can grab something off the wall and take it to the bench easily. I put the clamp holder on the end of the bench. Even though it is also on a french cleat, it has not moved since day 1. I use those plastic political signs/contractor signs for protection. They don't cover the whole bench, but they are good enough for me. A couple of times I did grab 3, and tape them together, but for what I do, one is generally good.

I like your table I had 1 years ago with power, and vac built in. Then I moved back home to Oklahoma. Don't have the room in a 20 x 25 shop. To many tools and equipment. I do woodworking, to concrete,weilding and small engine repair .

Always a good watch 👍 something that may help others though we work as contractors with portable workbenches we use FRP sheets glued to our bench. You can also use shower walls as well but frp is best. Glue dosent stick to it easly, paint flakes right off and impact resistant won't dent or scratch. If they use it for restaurants and hospitals for a cleanable surface there's a reason. Also I have this issue of people not noticing that depth of saw cuts and going into the table. Rhe smell of burning fiberglass should be your clue something is wrong and all thoes plastic shavings but dosent dull or destroy blades when they cut into the table. It's so easy to clean , maintain and replace better than formica or milmine.

Everything dandy till paint/glue are anything else gets splashed into the Tracks Dog holes ok, but not so compatible for under branch storage unless there’s a double top to stop that

Those are all great ideas! I wish I had the room for a big work table but I share the 40x40 shop with my lawn care stuff so one side is all wood working and the other is lawn care. I will say my little 2x3' work table has served me well but its time for something a bit bigger and something with a level top lol, love the 90 degree dog ear braces ...I could really use those!

Great video Mr. Matt. I’ve noticed that you’ve been done some reviews on routers in the past. I would like ti recommend one. I noticed that you have a Skil router and router table. I recently ordered one from woodcraft. It doesn’t look like yours. It has a screen on it that has features that allows you to set your bit speed digitally. It is well worth the money in my opinion.
