Aiwa's were well constructed and seldom did we see any come in for anything more than belt replacement and head cleaning or replacement. Great restoration job. The majority of them that came into the shop I worked in had roaches crawling out of them inside 2-3 minutes. I finally refused to let anything that smelled of roach even come in the door.

Great repairs. If you are anything like me, the plastic parts that went into the kitchen sink are cleaner then the dishes that I’ve done the night before 🤣😂👊🏼

Wow the level of work you put into these to make them great is awesome. These seem to get condemned to a life of misery in a garage/outdoors then garbage.

I saw the thumbnail for this video and got whiplash because that’s literally almost the one I own. I have a CX-ND7 and it almost looks identical to this, except mine can hold 5 CDs, and it pretty much has the same problems as yours. Great video!!

I've got one very similar to those, and it sounds amazing. It was around $15 from the thrift store years ago. It's cool to see that the repairs aren't ridiculously overcomplicated.

I bought a Sony bookshelf around that time. I've rarely used it in recent years, so when I tried playing a tape a few weeks ago, I found they quit working. The CD player had been working pretty good, but now it too was also just clicking. I pulled it apart and poked around. The belts for the tapes did the exact same thing, but I haven't dug into the carousel. I guess I should fix it sometime instead of just giving up and getting rid of it. I've always been impressed by how good this thing sounds. It's probably not high-end, but it still pounds hard. What's interesting is that the cooling fan only spins up when it's cranked, and even then it's a variable speed. So when I turn it back down, it's not like a PC where it'll keep blowing hard. Anyway...the knobs and display still work perfect. I don't know where I'm going with this lol. Have a good one.

The CD lens on yours might just need a good scrub with a q-tip and ISO. I have a sharp unit where the fan is controlled by the volume setting similar to how yours is.

@@jeffescortlx Thanks for the suggestion. I think it's probably just a belt issue as well 😊

Have now watched the rotatory encoder refurb - thank you for showing that! When needed, I've done similar for rotary and linear pots, but not one of those. What's your thoughts on a coating of dielectric grease before reassembly?
@jeffescortlx Жыл бұрын
I decided to let it go without any dielectric grease. If it fails for a second time I'll just replace the rotary encoder with a brand new one.

A plastic scraper blade, or an old credit card work really well with Goo Gone for removing stickers. Let the Goo Gone sit for a few seconds and the sticker scrapes off like butter.

Well done :-D, that was well worth the time and money. They are never ever serviced. I was a volunteer at the salvation army in my town. With next to bugger all i repaired/cleaned loads of devices, most had silly faults. I washed mucky drive belts with water and washing up liquid. Pinch rollers and heads were always yuck yuck lol. I did bodges, if the belt was slightly loose i could rework the motor mount point to stretch the belt a tiny bit. Often it worked like a charm, a head and capstan clean and no warble 😀 I lasted ten years, the covid risk stopped me going there.

@jeffescortlx , nice video. I have a sony version of these. basically same but only slight differences, like 6 disc shuttles. Quick question, what would you look at if the display was very dim, but working?

Either the hot wire filament power supply circuit of the VFD has issues or the VFD is just tired.

Jeff I’m sorry if this has been answered before, I’ve been searching for months with no answer. My 07 classic Sierra 2500 cluster, the parking brake light says lit up very dim at all times. It will never cut off unless you pull the battery. I saw in one comment on one of your videos where you said to clean the contacts is usually the problem. Something about silver corrosion or leeching(I can’t remember or find the post) But are you saying just take alcohol and clean it or how to clean this area? This drives me insane always being on…
@jeffescortlx Жыл бұрын
Yes you can use rubbing alcohol to clean the silver migration corrosion off the back side of the board. Conformal coating is recommended to help keep it from coming back.

Is the volume low on all the inputs, have you tried CD, radio tuner or cave player? When you turn the volume knob up the volume numbers count up?

CAUTION ! When using cleaning products make sure you test a very tiny area that won't be noticed because even the best techs ( Mend It Mark ) have removed lettering from the face of electronics and other things besides melting plastic and dissolving paint.

Good advice. I usually use a plastic safe lens cleaner If I don't want to fog up clear plastic or remove printing.

I have aiwa cx-naj80. Says 3 amp panaeama sound system on it. I have different speakers too. Mine say 200mm subwoofer 3 way speaker system. Built-in powered subwoofer. there is the big bass port you have on the bottom and i have bigger speaker at the top for mid rang and between them are 2 tweeters. The bass speaker is behind the main speakers looking in my manual shows how it is laid out. So the bass port goes the a cavity where the speaker is. The wires with no plug is for the med and high end and the one that has rca is for the bass too. Seperating like that makes it better i guess. You cN unplug 1 wire and see what each does. You have the plug for the satellite speakers? They are supposed to make stereo sound wider. And go in front outside the main speakers. I never had rear speakers hooked to mine but have plugs. i have a md button. Cd player on rhe bottom on mine so harder to work on. Gears gout misalligned so had messing with gears to fix it. Tape player stoped working. 1 has pinch roller thar came off and forget what is wrong with other. Dont use that much now but it gets loud. Volume goes to 60 but i can get in trouble at my apartment if i even half around 30. Seem like stay around 10 maybe 20 volume. Lots of bass. Think my speakers are close but have speaker cover that goes over the whole front.i like they hid stuff in these like mine has a slot machine you can enable. Not sure how hard it is to find manual for yours but mine was not that easy. I had to get manual for nsxaj80 think it was which is the same it seems. You have the bass. Mine has 3 levels and off and that really make the bass loud. Has t bass level 1. Forget what bbe stands for but have that level 2. Forget what i have geq and surround set too. afraid to look because i forget what the settings are at and going to one turns off the other and forgets the setting so you have to change back to it. Think surround sets the dsp..disco, live, stadium, hall, movie. Think have that set to movie. Geq music type pop, rock, classical, jazz and 5 programable eq curve. Forget if I used pop or programed one. Think going to surround turns off geq but can turn that back on after you pick surround.
