5-Year-Old Girl Paralyzed By Backbend Can Now Crawl Again

A 5-year-old who was paralyzed as she performed a backbend is showing signs of improvement by crawling and pushing down on her legs. Eden Hoelscher was a typically active child until she attempted a backbend in the living room of her family's California home last December. Kylee rushed her daughter to the hospital where doctors discovered she was paralyzed. Eden is undergoing intensive therapy with a new approach to spinal cord recovery. #InsideEdition

Don't be scared, she was only 5 and had never attempted a backbend before, it's like doing a full split when you've never ever attempted it. It can really damage your legs. Never attempt a move that goes beyond your natural limit without preparing for it before.

Oh man, I have a story similar to this but I got out lucky. So I was at cheer and someone spotted me wrong (somehow) on a backbend and it hyper-extended my back, leaving every single ligament and tendon supporting my spinal cord, torn. I remember looking at the scans and it shown, some of them had multiple areas torn, one was torn straight through, it was a mess. But I felt no pain at all, I felt nothing, it wasn't numb, but it wasn't painful. It hurt for a second in the moment though. But after some care I got better, it took 1 - 2 years to heal every tendon and ligament. And didn't help that the doctors where I lived the only one who knew what he was doing quit 4 or 5 months prior the injury. So the doctors did a lot of exercises wrong so I hurt it again. But now it's fine, sore a lot but perfectly fine. But man do I feel bad for the non-lucky ones! Especially her! Hope she feels better soon.

I know how to do one but I sprained my lower back when I was in gymnastics(luckily it wasn't bad) so I had to quit. I remember watching this video about two or three ago and thinking, 'awe all she did was a backbend? I never want to be able to do a backbend!' And for the next year I had a phobia of backbends. And about 7 months ago, I just learnt to do a backbend and forgot about this video, but still at the back of my mind, a voice told me, 'be careful, it's dangerous' but I ignored the voice. About a month after, I showed my mum my backbend and bomb. I broke my arm. I snapped my ligament and fractured my bone. I wore a cast for 6 weeks and still after that I had to be extremely careful with my arm and was told not to do anything outside my comfort zone. I'm now fully okay, but still do get pains in my arm. This is one of the many reasons I quit gymnastics, it scared the heck outta me.
