From start to finish, Tony demonstrates the techniques and skills needed to successfully craft a high-quality pair of shoes. Whether you're a seasoned cobbler or a complete newcomer, this video has something for everyone. Tune in to learn from a master and see how Tony expertly transforms a worn-out pair of boots into a like brand-new pair.

It was nice to relive 1:11:16 where I wasted about 50 nails trying to drive them into the heel haha. Thank you for having me in the shop and showing me the entire process of recrafting a boot! That was awesome!

Wife walks in and plops down on the couch a few mins ago, and after about 5 mins "what the hell is this you're watching?" Me: explains a bit in laymans terms. Her: "are you serious right now, and this is over an hour long?" Me: yup. Her: why are we paying for Netflix, Hulu and Disney? Me: thats a damn good question. 😂😂

I wish we had somebody in San Antonio, Tx or within 200 miles of there, that could properly recraft boots! I used to use a saddle maker for resoles but he got old and died, and we loved him and miss him a lot. Saddles is another ART or artisan craft that seems to be going extinct. If you know of anyone that does good work down in this part of the world, let me know please. I am tired of experimenting and having to throw my footwear away. I am not a cheap SOB, I will pay for goodness done right.

As a 45 year old who has worn only sneakers since I was 15, and who just bought $1000 of new Italian sneakers (which I love unfortunately), I now realize my folly of the last 30 years and find I want to get hand welted shoes and boots. Once I get the good shoes I can't imagine using sneakers for anything at all since I don't play sports, in fact I can barely walk. I think there is a real problem with men acting and dressing like children. I had better shoes when I was 10 than I did when I was 40 (only because when I was 10, that was so long ago, even children dressed like adults...we went to the shoe store in our little town and a nice man did all the work whilst we sat in a chair...quite different from today where the shoe store is bankrupt, you have to drive to a city mall, where you wait in line, and then beg a clueless cashier to find something for you to fit yourself).

It looks like a lot of work. How much would it cost to do the same things you did on those boots? Is it more cost effective to buy new boots vs recrafting? And why would you consider recrafting vs buying a new pair?
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany Жыл бұрын
Some of the things done were done to upgrade the boots with a customized look. That part of the price is different than just resoling a boot. A standard Dainite resole is $150. That’s less than buying new boots and a better quality sole than factory soles. The job in this video was $260.

In your professional opinion, do you recommend resole a Thursday boot?
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany 2 ай бұрын
If the uppers were not abused, a resole is good. You can pick soles that are more comfortable and more durable. That makes the boot worth the money for the resole. If the uppers are beat down, the only reason to resole is if it is a style that is no longer available.

I was curious. What is invalid in an apprentice and how would someone go about getting into an apprenticeship
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany Жыл бұрын
It depends on where you live and if you are willing to relocate. Some people go to there local shops and start an apprenticeship there. Some get hired right away, and others work part time when they can, to learn the trade. Some people don’t have a local shop to glean from, so they watch KZbin videos and eventually ask questions of the people that do videos.

This was really cool, but it kind of bothered me that Wyatt downplayed getting the rubber cement on the leather uppers. His brother criticizing him for that is totally fair. As a master of his craft, people should and usually will expect him to be more careful in that regard- especially when they are spending the money to have a boot re-soled, versus throwing it away.
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany Жыл бұрын
Cement doesn’t hurt the upper unless it is left on. Every single cobbler gets cement on the upper at some point. The only time it bothers anything is when it is an absorbent material. In those cases, coverings and caution is used to prevent anything from getting on the upper that can’t be removed easily and without damaging the upper. As far as his brother giving him a hard time, it was not criticism, but just brotherly ribbing that happened when they were young and just beginning. They also still pick on dad for burning potatoes one time 55 years ago.

I have a pair of these. They're alright at best. Ive worn them maybe 75 times in 2.5 yrs. Getting ready for a date the other night and the speed hooks popped off the boot. Contacted Thursday Boot company to try to get them repaired... Nothing... Crickets. So I hit up their facebook page and they freaking blocked me. Guys spend your $200 with a company who will stand behind their products and back them up. These influencers act like $200 for boots is inexpensive. Guy's, I had to bust my ass and save to buy these boots and this company wont even entertain a conversation about repairing a well kept, very lightly used pair of boots bought from them. I was proud to own them. Now I'm embarrassed to say they took my hard earned $$. I would've gotten better wear from a $50 boot on amazon and recieved the same bad customer service
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany Жыл бұрын
It’s surprising that you got treated like that by customer service! I would be upset too. All of our customers have raved about their experience with customer service. This is the first negative experience I have heard of about Thursday’s. Unfortunately, even a lot more expensive boots have hooks come off. It’s not really about how expensive something is. It boils down to customer service in the end. We weren’t trying to imply that a $200 boot is inexpensive. We just try to educate people what they should expect for whatever amount they spend on a boot.
@lukecornett4874
@lukecornett4874 Жыл бұрын
@@WyattDadCobblerCompany Thanks for the response... I truly enjoy your content. Its creative, well shot, and informative. I think I've watched the majority of the content offered by you guy! As far as insinuating "the pricing is inexpensive" I was speaking about influencers in general and not you personally, and apologize for that miscommunication. I felt desperate to turn to social media to even get heard. Its easy to think this company has a good reputation when they'll go to great lengths to silence customers who have report negative ones. I think the average person would've given up on getting the word out about a negative experience, but I'm petty and determined when it comes to companies like Thursday who are willing to treat customers like this. They'll send free boots to influencers to review. and pay commissions on promo codes and affiliate links, but to its asking to much to have them help after out with a problem caused by poor quality control. I've never heard of anyone's hooks popping off in under 100 wears. Maybe its commonplace, but I can tell you the $30 brahma work boots I bought at Wal-Mart 15 years ago still have theirs intact. I don't know to what type of relationship you have with that company but I truly hope its lucrative because you speak highly of them (as do all the other popular influencers) and maybe that's because you see hundreds of boots, and are simply giving your honest opinion.
