@@ngg9544 we didn't come up with the term rat race though. It is indeed a fact that since 1930s, this term rat race was used to describe the competitive nature of the work environment, especially in the corporate sector.

I would say that early retirement works for this couple due to their ability and good fortune to make the right investments at the right time. It is not a formula applicable to everyone as some people would have children, they need to take care of and support till they are employed or aged parents. There is a certain satisfaction in doing a job well, so some may continue to work as it gives them personal satisfaction and a sense of identity. Retirement as far as I can see to them is travelling, eating and making videos to encourage more people to retire early. If that give meaning to their life, then it works for them, however perhaps only 30% of Singaporeans are financially ready and prepared for retirement. For a majority of people especially men who retire, death may await at the corner, cos they lose their sense of worth, identity and purpose. So maybe they can address how they find meaning and purpose in their retirement, however their meaningful purpose may not be other people's meaningful purpose. For woman, they may find purpose in taking care of their grandkids, how to do that when they're constantly travelling? Different strokes for different folks for sure.
@corporatebreakoutcouple4 күн бұрын
@@SpinelPrince thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! We love it! To address the no kids part, we have interviewed a few couples on our channel who has kids and yet managed to early retire in their 30s and 40s. Do check them out! The purpose and fulfillment part is super important and hence we keep repeating ourselves in that area. Basically it's the WHY one wants to gun for early retirement. Actually it's not early retirement but the TIME Freedom that people want to have. In order to have time freedom, one needs to have Financial Freedom first. It's all connected and we endeavour to show this to people in our various videos.

@@calvinchew7985 yes! It's definitely possible! The thing is, if they are truly happy with working for others, then by all means go for it! We all need to be true to ourselves. @@corporatebreakoutcouple eg. inheritance + financial windfall + prudent investing may tempt one to FI earlier than the official retirement age
@corporatebreakoutcouple4 күн бұрын
@calvinchew7985 oh for sure! There is no fix age for achieving financial independence. It can be 35, 40, 45, even 60 Doesn't mean one is retired at 65 is financially independent. They could still be needing a job to pay off bills as their pension or social security payout isn't sufficient. The key is to know how to manage the money one has - be it $100, $100k, $1M or $10M and so forth. Getting a windfall or inheritance is great, however if one does not know how to manage this money and make this money last and make even more from there, the money will soon be gone. This is the main reason why many lottery winners end up worst off a few years later after winning the lottery, than before they won.
