That sounds like the type of advice that Plato or Cicero might have given, once upon a time! Whoever first said it, it is wisdom indeed! I suddenly have this image of an orange man (I never utter his name) speaking to his MAGA supporters, who are so fascinated with what he says that they never analyze what he has actually done, which is very little, and that little has been mostly very harmful!

always has been that way, since time immemorial! Satire and comedy have been vital tools against censorship and comedians need to be protected at all costs from situations like the Oscars, for example. They are the first and, often the last ones to hold up to the truth and stand up to the powers that be, under the guise of "being funny". Support and listen to stand up comedians. Everything and anything should be subject of satire and jokes, the moment we impose limits on what can and can't be joked about is the 1st indicator we are headed to another dark age...

@carstekoch
@carstekoch Жыл бұрын
@@tytn9978 A "loot box" is a consumable item in a video game that can be opened to get other items. (Loot in video games is a reward item for various tasks, originally a "dropped" or left behind item after defeating an enemy) Most of the time they have to be bought for real money though you can often grind a box or two per week in game if you are willing to put a lot of time into it. The items you get are largely garbage with a very small chance to get a somewhat valuable item. Sometimes the Items are purely cosmetical as in a set of clothes or a different looking weapon, but it's not uncommon that they also include character abillities, weapons that have an advantage in game, boosters for experience/currency collection or a mix of all of the above. Basically they are a form of unregulated gambling specifically tailored to minors and often are a somewhat obscured pay to win mechanic.

When I first visited London back in 2015, I found the contrast between the rich and the average people extremely evident. Because in one street, there are the standard homes, discounter stores, kiosks, kebab shops, and things like that. Then, literally right in the next street, there are all the posh restaurants, expensive shops with security guards, and high-class cars parked in front of houses that are little mansions. I found it amusing at first, but this video showed me how serious of an issue the contrast is, because the rich are doing what they're always doing: Not care about those who are below their class. Their money, even a fraction of it, could prevent another incident like Grenfell from happening again.
@post2sk8online
@post2sk8online Жыл бұрын
so while i totally agree with your statement, to play devils advocate... what makes it the right of the rich to pay for the poor? A lot of wealthy people worked hard to earn their money and pay whats legally required to live in the houses/mansions they have. I understand that a tiny portion of their money could make things better for the less well off, but there will always always always be people in worse off positions in the world - when where the 'helping hand' stop at? I think that inequality is a massive global issue and not exclusive to London/UK, but capitalists built, and continue to drive this country forward so unfortunately, that means they hold the power to dictate the rules.

Ok a fair comment but let's look deeper, there is a little place in Chelsea that is a tiny little thoroughfare for pedestrians, it doesn't have a road so a lot of the restaurants have used it to set up little coffee bars and the like, ok so far? Well all those lovely charming very rich coffee drinkers are sitting in the middle of a rat riddled dump, I have seen the size of some of those monsters running around there and to me, maybe I'm wrong but, they seem right at home with the millionaire set drinking their cappuccino's and double latte's. The day we (my team of surveyors) and myself were there the sewage people had the grates up and two of the big bastards ran out. Maybe a few rather well placed diseases right there would solve a few of the problems we have, and where is this place? Find the big casino in knightsbridge/chelsea, and your almost there.

The first week I moved to London from the states, I was staying at a hotel near grenfell. That night was horrific. But the combination of British “stiff upper lip” attitudes, and my own guilt in feeling that expressing the trauma of seeing something like that feels like pulling focus from the actual victims…. I just didn’t say anything. Same as when my neighbor murdered his twin 3 year old girls, and I kept my mouth shut about how traumatized I was seeing that… they weren’t my girls, and I didn’t know them well. But if I smell pennies, I break down into sobs (blood smells like pennies, and there was a ton). I’m finally starting to realize that it’s ok to acknowledge the trauma of witnessing these things. You don’t have to know the person to be haunted by their screams as they burn to death. To be broken hearted for their families. To relive that helpless feeling of watching people, knowing they were going to die, and unable to do anything about it. Don’t just suffer in silence over it ❤

Sadly, as Russell pointed out, MPs from all parties have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. In many respects voting only legitimises and perpetuates the iniquities of the system. Arguably the only choice that the British people have is the colour of the rosette that their preferred candidate wears.

I couldn't put it much clearer than that. I have came from the bottom of the pit and still trying to grind it out for my family rather than asking the government for help as they just don't care. I want to start a charity up where we can help a family better their way of living in all ways as there is so much money out there for us all to live a happy life

I live in Halifax/Dartmouth Nova Scotia Canada and we have the same problem. My teenage son and I lived in a bit of a run-down place in Windsor Nova Scotia 2012. The neighbours were great but I could never understand why he and I were always sick getting asthma. My lungs are now s**t, among other health problems. We found out what had caused our problems a couple of months later when they were renovating the apartment and found black mould in all the walls from the floor to the ceiling. We moved that year to Halifax/Dartmouth area and after several years of moving after being flooded out, frozen out and various other problems, I found the place I now live in and he shares an apartment with his girlfriend. I am a pensioner on a fixed income and live in a building without wheelchair access while now having to use a walker for assisted movement. I broke my neck at work in 1991 and after several surgeries and being told I would never work full time again, my employer and Worker's Compensation put me on permanent long time term disability. My wife left me and then offered to let me have custody of our youngest, my son, as she could no longer control him, he has ADHD. He had his moments over the years but turned into a nice thoughtful person who comes to help his old dad every couple of weeks. Anyway, somebody I knew was moving out of a building about 100 yards away, he was paying about the same as I am and told me about the apartment. The building had wheelchair access and an elevator so no more trying to get my walker up the stairs. Rents have gone crazy here, but there used to be a policy of allowing seniors to exchange an apartment in a building with access at the same rent, my rent is fixed at 10% per annum increases due to being a senior and having been in the apartment for over 5 years. When I enquired about an apartment swap I was told that although I am only paying $700 monthly as is my friend, if I move into the friend's apartment my rent would be $1,450 a month. With rents increasing from doubled to quadrupled, the only way I will be able to move is into a Nursing Home, which I don't want. So Canada has the same problems as the UK with housing even though the Government ignores the rental problem but is giving all kinds of help to people buying a home. 🤔🤔😒😒 kzbin.infogaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f612.png

an accurate indictment of government policies, delivered with humour and passion! As much as I admire HM the Queen, I do think that the Royal Family should be contributing to the upkeep of Buckingham Palace, and other "royal" residences. I am truly appalled to hear that the Company that short-changed the safety-features of Grenfel Tower gave $5 million to an Opera Company ... I enjoy opera, but surely the audience ticket-fees should cover the cost of staging one; and it certainly should not come at the expense of safety for others.
