After 5 years of BTE gardening I finally took a soil test and compared it to our native soil.

Thanks for the videos of your back to Eden garden progress. We have converted our no-dig Veg patch to wood chip this season on Southeast coast of Australia. I've stuck with legumes, beans peas, and then pumpkins, squash zucchini for this first season. Trying to keep up the nitrogen and all going OK considering it's the first year. Love this type of gardening

Thanks for your thoughtful presentation and beefy information.

Lime lasts three years but the alkaline effect of wood ash doesn't last very long. A season or year is what I've read. You could probably fix the pH by simply not using it next time and from then on, use less than half of what you've been using.

Considering these test results it'd be nice to have an update on how the garden did last year. Looking at putting in a Back to Eden garden in the next week or so, got a pile of wood chips and compost waiting to go in on my days off.

I just did this soil test this past march, still planting seeds for this year. We’ll see how it does.

@@healthyhorticulture Yes but you probably made some amendments this year I'm guessing. How did your plants do last year with the higher pH and other issues you discussed? Thanks for the response.

I am going to reach out to you on the Eden page to discuss these results.

I find it interesting that the potassium levels are the same. Ashes are potash. Which is potassium. You'd think the potassium levels in the garden would be somewhat higher than the lawn. I heat with wood and also spread my ashes around. But I spread them all over an acre and a half, not solely in the garden. Did a soil test last spring and my pH was 6.5.

Yea I’m surprised that my potassium levels aren’t a bit higher.

I’m in Farmington Ct, where did you get your soil test done? I’m planning on starting a garden this year .

I got my soil test done at the CT agricultural experiment station. They do testing for free. If you go to their website you can get all the information and print out a soil test form. I’m not too far from you…Litchfield
