I put Saran Wrap over my air dry clay. It takes longer to dry but it works great for me.

It has some kind of fiberous texture if you break it in two.

Not all clays do, Paperclay has fibers in it. Sculpy, Activa, and Jovi air dry clays don't have fibers.

You can use epoxy to fill the crack and paint over it.

Sure, it is possible. Make sure you cover your project with plastic and dry very slow

It happens when drying clay too fast. Next time cover with plastic and dry very slow
