Great haul! I just canned sausage peppers and onions, 21 quarts for the pantry. LIDL had red Grapes for $0.99. I took my family with me and we each bought 8 pounds. I canned 28 quarts of Grape juice. Today I canned 16 pints of pulled pork. Tomorrow I am canning unstuffed peppers with 12 pounds of ground beef. As far as stocking up, I bought 25 cans of RoTel tomatoes and green chili's. It was on sale for 5 @ $5.00. I also bought McCormick spice packets....Montreal Steak, Brazilian BBQ, Sriracha Honey, Lime and Chili, and a few others. They were half price at $0.90 each. I stocked up on them, 4 packs each flavor. We won't have bland food. Keep prepping your pantry. God Bless America 🇺🇸

This is a good haul, Jinne. I just did a $40 haul at the Dollar Store. Whew, there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of what we need to buy! Would you please consider showing us how to make the 16 bean soup in the crock pot? Take care💕

I like to make my own ragu sauces. You can add a small amount of cornstarch to flour when breading chicken it will make the crust crunchy. As the price of corn goes up so will the price of cornstarch and any corn-related items. I am buying olives at dollar tree, Spain is in a big drought. I think canned seafood is a good investment. Canned and dried fruits. Applesauce or apple anything is going up. Cocoa powder, the price is going up, can turn your flour into chocolate cake. Dollar cake mixes while you can find them. Something to do right away is back up your computer to cover yourself if things do go down. Peace and Love 😇

I just bought more socks, underwear and a couple pairs of tennis shoes to put back. I'm disheartened so much. My garden is just about toast because of the hurricane force winds we had on Sunday evening. Broke squash plants up at the base and tossed them across the ground. Tomatoes limbs all broken off. The deer ate my peas and beans down to nothing. Ate the leaves off my sweet potato slips, too. My peppers look like they have blight. Tucked off in a small area I still have cucumbers. What good is it gonna do to have the knowledge and seeds if the weather is so bad you can't grow anything?? I wish I had something better to say. Good luck everyone. We are going to need it. More rice and beans is a great idea for those folks who show up at the door. I can care less if they get tired of eating them since they did not buy them. I did a 50lb bag of popcorn, since I love popcorn. But have also ground it into meal and made corn muffins. Same with wheat berries into bread. Watch the weekly flyers from your local grocery stores, in case you're not already. It's all I can do to NOT go down the aisles of the grocery store and shake my head. Truly, I have to literally stop myself. I'm glad Jinne mentioned the price of oatmeal going up. It's been very high here in Wisconsin for a while. It used to be that was a cheap meal. Stock up on pancake mix and syrup. Get the kind that says "complete" so all you have to add is water. And oatmeal, although it's gone up, is still relatively cheap compared to other food. I've reached maximum capacity for oatmeal. I buy the giant size. I have several of them in my pantry.

One that has chicken bouillon and onions, one that has saffron (if I can find saffron), and one that has a little Chinese kinda flavor with pea pods, sweet peppers, soy sauce, a little shredded carrot and onion. I have a ton of rice besides but I like the idea of having shelf stable ready to eat rice. I can add a little meat to it after I open it if I want or use it as a side dish. My husband is starting to say things like "do we really need more?" He goes back and forth so I just smile and say YES! Take care Jinne...

When Covid first hit, two of my sons drove here (upstate NY) from out of state to grocery shop. Apparently, their stores were jammed with people coughing etc, elbow to elbow. When they got here, I told them to first go shopping in my store room (spare bedroom now pantry). That way, they didn't have to spend as much time in a store and only needed to get meat. They each left with a couple of full bags of canned food, enough to last a couple of weeks. I wasn't crazy when they got supplied from me, but now it seems like I have fallen back down the "rabbit hole" like my son likes to say.

Great video! Thanks! I’ve been stocking up on “ meals in a bag”. I buy different pasta styles, different pasta jars of sauce, Dollar Tree mushrooms, bacon bits, etc. I have a variety of these meals to grab right off the shelf. They won’t last forever but they will provide ready “ no thought” meals for a less than perfect day. 💗

Same way about canning c tomatoes. Trick. Buy tomato paste and when cooking your tomatoes add it. This way you do not lose that tomato juice boiling out for thicker sauce.

I went and got the Hamburger and deli cheese and bread that was on sale at Hannaford's. I notice their prices went up a lot on items that I got 3 weeks ago. I have to go to walmart to get 25 lbs of sugar and socks underwear and bras for the granddaughter. I'll have to check out the rice.

I'm in Wisconsin and I'm going shopping tomorrow and Friday. Tomorrow going to a local grocery store because they have boneless skinless chicken breast on sale for $1.99/pound and I'm getting as much as I can and canning it. Then Friday to Costco because I got my glasses from them and they came apart, but then I'll get tp and paper towels and canned fruit and who knows what I'll find. I'm retired so no work, at least not that I get paid for...

I would say write out a month or even just two weeks of meal breakfast lunch dinner and then bulk buy as many of those ingredients as possible and more likely than not a few will over lap and you could make other things out of them that way you buy what you and your family eats

Red Beans and Rice. Biryani; made with East Indy spices found at ethnic grocery store (very delicious). Sauted onions, carrots, and celery with meat, broth and rice added (done when all the liquid is obsorbed by the rice. Kielbasa sausage chopped and Rice, seasoned. Never stir the rice and never boil it in a pot of water. It's best cooked with other ingredients with the lid on the pot.

Lots of spices and flavors. And meats. I have different chili's made with ground meat, some with brisket. Chili over rice. But flavor variety is the key if you are going to be eating beans many times a week. Same for the rice. Both are very "bland" without spices. I do think some spices in bulk. Now I am hungry... I try different recipes on the web, print out and keep the ones I like. And I need more recipes for beans and rice.

You can do it just follow your pressure canner book, the main thing is to vent for 10 minutes, and youll have to play with your stove to keep it at pressure but you can do it!!!!! 👍😊

Hi Vicki, I've been canning my whole life and I'm 65. There's so much good information out there. There's a ton of videos for first time canners. Then look around for videos that are canning whatever you're canning that day. Don't let fear paralyze you. Watch videos till you can't anymore and then just do it. Don't leave your pressure canner unattended. Stay right there in the kitchen. Sit and relax. Make sure your gauge is within a small variation range. You can do this.

I was afraid also. However, if you follow the instructions to the letter, you won't have any trouble. Now, I have pressure canned so much, I really never worry about it. Have a friend come over and read the directions as you go along. That's what I did. It made a world of difference to me in the beginning.

Yes! I've used store bought spaghetti sauce and browned hamburger and put that in jars and canned it. Then I just need to cook pasta and I have a meal! I think it was Jinne who did a video on recanning food that you can get in the grocery store that comes in those industrial size restaurant size cans. That gives me a great idea about recanning peaches. Good luck, I hope this helps and thanks for giving me a great idea!
