Because Dre produced the beats. You guys give him way too much credit, Dre beats are so basic and vanilla, he hires (rather Interscope Records does) other producers to add levels or layers to his simple 1-2 drum patterns. Also if you have high quality samples or live instruments (which Interscope do have access too) a simple drum will sound much more punchy than your basic synth sounds. I am not a audio engineer or a musical genius...I just have a decent understanding and a pair of ears.

NGL as someone who makes beats this constantly plagues me. The most simple beats are often the hardest hitters, but the compulsion to overcomplicate everything kills me. I couldn't ''sign off'' on a beat like this in my own head, it would feel too empty and repetitive, I'd probably just save it as like idea3894858563333 and forget about it, yet it's one of the hardest beats ever, and I in no way think I'm remotely close to Dre. I do feel like if some amateur producer made this it wouldn't gain much traction tho. I think being able to get the beat into the hands of an artist who is about to blow up is probably a bigger deal than making insanely technical beats. Giving artists room to breathe and keeping it simple is something I struggle with massively, to the point I don't ever really finish a beat.
