This is such a refreshingly honest look at this game. I was a dev on this, so long ago. One tiny wrong thing, Genuine Games wasn't a Scottish company, we had an office in Woodland Hills, in "The Valley" at the edge of LA. It was a very short dev cycle, but the team had a ton of talent and a lot of love went into its making. It could have been better, it plays like a game in mid development, but needed to get out the door for whatever business and marketing reasons made sense at the time and so it did.
@MrHammers Жыл бұрын
Wow, that's interesting! Did u happen to be there and work on fight club as well? My most recent video is on that game and would love some insider info haha
@floofyprawn6459 Жыл бұрын
@@MrHammers Afraid not, I was only there for this one. Bulletproof was built on the same codebase as Fight Club, pretty impressive considering how different the games are. Back then most studios would have to develop their own engine, and they were commonly focused on a single genre, but it still made more sense to use it as a starting point and not have to rewrite the renderer, animation systems, loading, etc. I recall the dev length to be closer to 14 months than 11, but I may be misremembering that. It's still too short a time to do all we did.

Hey, @floofyprawn6459! It's always awesome to hear from a dev. Despite the short period of time, the game came out kinda solid, I'd say! Would you be so kind as to answer a question I have for this game. It's a little glitch that still bugs me to this day. It's about the Grizz's medals. The second medal in the disused subway level is glitched. I've been searching everywhere for a way for the game to register it, but no one mentions it. Basically, Grizz awards Fiddy with 20K and a Level-3 Flak Jacket everytime the player recovers one of them. But it doesn't happen with that one. The one close to the industrial fan. I suspect that 50 not saying anything upon getting that one specifically has something to do with it. Only looking at the code would explain it, but my guess is that the game simply checks if the player got the prop per level, so it doesn't acknowledge that there are two in there. Or maybe there's no such function assigned to that specific collectible. Do you have any clue of what might be going on? Thank you for the attention!
@pure18769 ай бұрын
@@floofyprawn6459 hey! i spoke to a different developer i think from the art part of the game (not dropping his name here for obvi reasons) and he was able to send me about 50gb of content created for the game! i was lucky enough to open it through autodesk maya seemed like it was made on that. i am working on a pc port which is more of a pain i thought it would and im missing some missions some audio files and most of the scenes luckily i do have all the drawboards and even the script to develop it on my own but if you still maybe have some files left somewhere i would love to get those if you want ofcourse :)

Awesome retrospective man! This game is really fun despite the bad controls and camera. I never encountered any bugs when playing it. I actually reached out to the creative director of the game and shared some very interesting info with me! -This game was basically going to be Grand Theft Auto but with 50 Cent's name attached to it. -A LOT of stuff was cut from before release like pipe scaling to get to out of reach areas, a progression based respect mechanic similar to Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, destructible environments, a VASTLY bigger hub world to explore, more clothes for 50 Cent to wear, remixes of 50's albums, shooting on ladders and pipes, the hookers in the HUB world could get money for you and some cool door takedown animations were removed. -Everything for 50 Cent Bulletproof had to go through Vivendi Universal and 50 Cent himself for approval. He was given builds to play with and he would give feedback on them. -Vivendi Universal were big fans of 50 Cent and which is what made them decide to make a game based on him. -The game was sadly rushed to tie in with 50 Cent's movie Get Rich or Die Trying. -It was a very big budget game originally but was cut down significantly halfway through development. Levels and mechanics also changed a lot. -The development team have a lot of fond memories working on the game, working with Terence Winter and 50 Cent.

You should do a review of the dead to Rights games next and/or true crime games. Those games were amazing back in the 2000's. Definitely my favorite.

I remember playing this for maybe 30 minutes tops at the time. What i found hilarious is that no matter how much you get shot your health would barely go down. I get it but it does not make it any less stupid.

I remember 50 got offered to voice CJ on GTA SA but turned it down saying he would only voice himself in a video game. And thats how this came about, don’t know how true it is but that was definitely circulating around at some point
