Red Dead Revolver's story in Redemption's world is very much like the Trojan War in our world. It happened, but much of the story was embellished. Red Harlow (along with the other characters) likely existed, but not in the way Revolver portrays them.

I still have fond memories of renting & beating Red Dead Revolver. The gameplay took some getting used to, as I wasn't skilled at shooters and had never seen anything like the Deadeye mechanic before. But man, after some practice, I LOVED it. Everything from the story (though, I admittedly didn't understand all of it at that age) to the characters, music and setting was fun and memorable. I felt like a Terminator in the Old West (if said Terminator was played by a younger Clint Eastwood). It was just about everything a kid could want in the classic cowboy power fantasy: Hunting bounties, stopping crimes (like the train robbery), exploring an old town, getting new weapons, winning shooting duels, feeling like an overall badass, etc. When Redemption first came out, I'd honestly forgotten all about Revolver. Then, lo and behold, I loved Redemption even more (except, I sadly never beat it and eventually moved on to other games). My sister bought R.D.R. 2, but I never got into it. It's hard to explain why, as I love everything about both those titles and agree that they improved on Revolver in every possible aspect. Perhaps the genre simply didn't resonate with me anymore (admittedly, I was never into old Spaghetti Western films)? Or, maybe it was Revolver's simpler foundation that kept my interest, whereas the Redemption titles are so much bigger and more complex? In any case, I'll always have a place in my heart for this franchise and am grateful that it's still going strong. I might give Redemption 2 another try someday and see if it recaptures those feelings I had for its predecessor. I wish Rockstar would remake Revolver (not just remaster), imagine what current technology could do for the adventures of Red Harlow?

When it comes to wild west styled games, there are 5 that will always come to mind for me. Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, Red Dead Revolver, Gun, and God Hand. I kinda wish that Redemption didn't overshadow the other 3 but when those 2 games are as good as they are, it's nearly impossible to not let that happen. Plus, they've earned that recognition beyond a shadow of a doubt. I think most people kinda see Revoler, Gun, and God Hand and confuse "not as good as" with "not good" which is a damn shame

it's nice to see some folks still talk about this gem of a game today, even if its a small amount its still nice to know i ain't the only person on the planet who still thinks about it. probably the only game i've ever played that felt like i was inside a old skool spaghetti western! likely the game i can blame my 'love of all things western' on. you simplified the story a bit too much (for my liking), but then i guess this isn't a story summary lol otherwise a very good video about revolver, thank you for this. its a shame it gets overshadowed by the series sequels and often forgotten or ignored due to it not being canon (though i personally don't care what anyone says, its canon to me), or simply due to its age. really in my opinion, the best western game on the market before redemption came along, it just has this magic to it that can't be beat! one of the few games i'd unironically give a 10/10, and it sucks that it'll likely never get a sequel or remake, though you never know a remake could ruin it somehow. so maybe its for best. cheers

I always remember scrolling over the character selection and to that guy who kept saying "I'm gunna kill yuuu and useee yuuu to wipe muh bee hind!" That and that guy who says "Whose up for some Bar-B-Que!" Lol. "Pray for a swift death!" Haven't played in over 15 years yet, I still remember playing so many hours with my brother. We thought if you bought the "For sale" sign in the shop, you'd be able to own your own store or what not. Ahhh... The imagination.

Great video, always wondered what Revolver was like. Here's to your channel getting the views it deserves.

I like the idea that Red Harlow is Uncle's real name. No one else in the Van Der Lind gang knew because he never really got into specifics about his life before the gang, and most of them would think he's full of shit anyway.
@frankcastle83973 жыл бұрын
Red Harlow is not Uncle.
@keithhightower6463 жыл бұрын
@@frankcastle8397 yeah, probably not. I like the idea specifically because it's so unlikely, but it would be a funny way to tie up the trilogy. As it stands now redemption and revolver are totally unrelated, except for the fact that it happened in the same world.
@Grappul2 жыл бұрын
I believe in Redemption Red is just a folk tale. I Imagine rockstar wanted a different world because I believe they got the rights to Revolver late in it's Development. so the references to Red indicate he is only a story told by people. Which in my opinion is a good way to reference a legendary character like Red. Also Uncle is definitely not Red because he mentions nothing that Red Harlow did.

I just love this game to bits, ironically my friend named himself shadow wolf and never played Revolver, so i did what ever good friend does, I made him play it, plus joke around by telling him to never died on me. Red Dead Revolver was my favorite game back in the ps2 era and to this day I still have my OG copy of it. Thank you for shining a light on this great game.

When this game came out I expected it to play more like the way Red Dead Redemption ended up playing. Of course GUN was basically the type of game was looking for but didn’t realize it was what it was at the time. With that being said Red Dead Revolver turned out to be very entertaining in its own right. The initial let down was quickly overcome.

I remember seeing commercials for this when I was young and begging my father to get me the game on release day and playing it and getting fully immersed playing it nonstop I loved this game and super underrated.

It's a shame that Revolver ain't canon to Redemption. Fun Fact: I thought they'd continue the naming scheme and that Red Dead 3 (Red Dead Redemption 2) would be called like Red Dead Repeater or something

Is there any reason as to why? Any story beats or contradictions somehow that wouldn’t fit? I haven’t played any games so far but just picked up the first Redemption to play soon

This was one of the first games I ever played. I would always watch my older brother play games but this one had a pretty dang fun local multilayer so we'd play that a lot after my brother finished the story. That was until my mom got fed up with us playing it every waking hour, and she also found out it was Rated M. So she did what any mother would do and snapped the game in half and forced us to sell our PS2. It did us right though, I started playing outside more often. I played it again about 12 years later on the PS3 and it was just as incredible as I remember.

I never say "RDR" when talking about Redemption because for me RDR will always be Red Dead Revolver.

I think Rockstar could really do something interesting (and make a ton more money) if they replace a Redemption 3, and instead make a Red Dead Revolver 2. It's all in the same universe and roughly same time period and location that eventually leads to a crossover game with related characters. Even more interesting, if the Harlows & Marstons become feuding families in the 1930's Dust Bowl/Great Depression.

A person who thinks RDR1 had “elegant storytelling”, hasn’t been exposed to decent storytelling in their life.

Great video about a kinda forgotten game. Red dead revolver was amazing. Great shooting mechanics for the day. Few levels were more than frustrating though. The finale and the mission where you play as the colonel and direct cannon fire. I'm not sure if I would have the patience to finish it nowdays.

Wow thanks for this. I am new to the Red Dead universe. I don't do consoles and haven't had a decent PC in 5 yrs until now, and RDR2 was one of the first "newish" titles I purchased. Revolver looks a game ahead of its time for 2004.
