As you stated that “ Batwing” drawer handles have been around since the decade of the SEVENTIES, you are correct. However, Colonial furniture makers from the era of William and Mary, Queen Anne , and Chippandale furniture all have used Batwing pulls. It’s not a “ decade” thing; it’s a “ centuries” thing covering the 17 th century to present, specifically starting in 1620.

Thank you for showing what ‘bleed through’ looks like! There’s often a lot of steps taken to PREVENT things from happening, but not much to show what you’re trying to prevent. I hope that makes sense. Can you make a video or ‘series’ of what exactly to prevent? There’s a lot of jargon like ‘wet edge’ or ‘texture’, ‘cured’ , things like that. It might take sacrificing pieces or some wood to explain things, but it’d be super helpful 💛💛💛

This dresser is in the category of upcycled furniture where it does not even resemble the former. Looove how you transformed this dresser.

The set screw on the collar backs off because you’re using an impact driver to drill. The impact that makes it good at screwing faster is vibrating the drill bit.
@melissagraham6180
@melissagraham6180 5 ай бұрын
Using the impact drill, you can also get the opposite effect where the collar screws grind into the bit and is almost impossible to remove.

I'd countersink those holes before filling them. It hides them better Also try to hold the paint gun 90° to the panel. It will keep the paint lay flatter and keep the fill cup away from the piece so it doesn't hit it. Nice job here. Looks great. New sub.

Nice, sturdy construction, but it looks like you did round that 9/16 down to 1/2 so the sides of the body sit just a bit proud of the new base. I think it might have looked a bit better if the base sat proud of the body just a bit.

I'm new to your channel and enjoy it immensely. Getting ready to redo living room and dining room which are currently dark cherry. I really like the bleached raw wood look. I have no idea if it's going out of style, but I think if that's what you like, that's what you should use. Even if it's out of style now, it'll be back in style eventually, and in the meantime you'll have surrounded yourself with furniture that you love.

I say painted if you want to, but if the old finish is needing to be refreshed in any case then maybe you could send it down and just put a really natural wax finish on it so it looks fresh and clean, but also shows the character of the old piece. That being said, paint is protective for old wood. Our ancestors liked paint and used paint. I would not feel guilty about using paint in spite of some of the people that come on these shows and criticize it. It is no longer 1880 and we don’t have to play by 1880 rules or decor styles. Maybe they would have preferred paint if they would’ve had the option for that piece of furniture. You don’t know nobody does..

I have this exact looking piece in my bedroom along with 4 other smaller pieces that I would LOVE to redo all of them in this way. However, I have zero experience in refinishing furniture. Is there a way of not having to do much prep work and just being able to paint over it? I'm certain it has this exact finish and veneer top. How much do you think it would cost to have someone else refinish it for me??
