Correction for #24: it IS still technically 4 stages! Mach 1 is what cues up the startup anim, but otherwise uses Mach 2's graphics. During Mach 1, you turn instantly, without any turning animation. Mach 2 introduces that, and Mach 3 is when you're finally able to damage enemies. Mach 4 is only a visual change, because as soon as you turn around, you're dropped back to Mach 3.
